how will life be without money?

Some says that money is the root of all evil. Money makes the world go round... when money talks, everybody listens... But then, imagine life without money. How will life be like without money? How will it be like if we can get the things we want for free? Do you think if money is not used anymore in our transactions, the problems that are caused by money will be solved? Will this situation put an end to poverty? Will this give everybody a fair share of everything that is available?

For starters, you have just used one of the most misquoted statements of all time. The actual quote is, "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil". Money itself is not evil. Your idea of everything being free is simply historically, psychologically, and pragmatically unrealistic. We are a "trading" species, always have been, but in past cultures trade has always been reciprocal, and people who accumulated too much were forced through social pressure to give it away (e.g. the North American indigenous tradtion of potlach). Even if we went to a no cash economy, we would still have an economy, but it would be barter. There's nothing wrong with that other than the fact that barter simply cannot cope with large populations: it is something that works well in smallish groups, even in today's world (e.g. LETS schemes). We will always have some form of exchange medium, there is no escaping that. But if we look at the correct quote we can see where the real issue is. Using money as a tool is fine, that is what it is for: using money for status, for greed, for identity, for power, that is where the evil lies. Lash

I quite agree that barter would be a problem in a large civilisation. One other possible system is for everyone to be able to get the basics they need such as food clothing and shelter. These are produced for the society and everyone gets their fare share. But as to who produces these things is up to the people. There is no money or wages and everyone does what they are best at. So in effect everyone gets the same salary and everything that is needed is simply free. The trouble with this concept is that there will always be people who want more, people who are greedy. To deal with this problem you would need to have a system of luxuries and that is where you go right back to the monetary system.

So true. Money is not the problem. But we are now making it a god. It's our greed and love for it that's driving our economy into a downward spiral and raising crime.

Life without money is poverty..Money becomes evil when it uses in bad ways..We cant survive without money, there nothing to buy for food.. we work to have money for us to survive..I think too much money will cause evil in life..so, its up to us how to handle money in our lives.. Money for me is important.

That´s something really difficult to imagine life without money. People are used to the consuming way of living. Can you imagine you want to buy something and you have no money for that? And poverty will always exist cause people have to learn to divide, the problem is not the money itself but what money makes to people.

I agree... the problem comes from the unequal distribution of things... and taking money out of the system can worsen things up.

For sure, nothing will be free. we will be back to barter system. The milkman will take vegetables from our house. A kidney donor will expect one eye in return. A educator will make the kids work for him till the kid is old enough to rebel. all employees will be paid by meal & packed food to take home. When you are in a hurry you hire a cab provided you are willing to push the taxi while others are travelling the next day. The world will certainly become a healthier place because of all the exercise we will be doing.

Money itself is not the root of all evil, but rather, the LOVE OF MONEY is the root of all evil.

It probly could end poverty. This may even make the world more corrupt. No matter how much money or whatever possessions there is greed. Wanting more and more those have, lose. Who will create, invent thing if there was nothing to get out of it. Money is what people work for, do for, money is power. Not many wanna do something to give away. Someone creates a computer that paper sized and can go anywhere, he wont share it, because he is the only person with one. If there was money he could trade it in for something be rich. Money usually gives rankings in some societies.

I agree... somehow, money limits our ability to acquire things. And yes, it gives rankings to the society.

Money is not the root of all evil but greed is. Money in itself is not evil or bad. It dpeends on how one uses it. If money is not used w e have to resort to other methods. Such as bartering as they used to do in the past years. Where people used to exchange products for other products or services. i dont think that it is possible anylonger in today's world. This is a silly idea which I always thought was invented by the rich to stop the poor from trying to acquire it. The actual phrase is that money is the root of all evil and it means that greed is the cause of all evil. This is not quite true but greed certainly causes a great deal of evil. If we did not have money we would simply fall back to the barter system that we used before anyone invented money so it is not a problem at all and quite easily solved. As to whether it would solve poverty is another thing all together. Bartering is simply the exchange of goods or services for goods or services. If you have neither goods to offer or a service that anyone wants then you will be poor. The only way to solve poverty is to change people's attitudes so that people are regarded as worthwhile regardless of who they are or what they do or do not do.

to be honest it is a wonderful thought however that is impossible. if there was no money involved why would anyone do anything or make any products that we use daily...where would you get food or shampoo or tea or sugar, who would give it to you. why would the govt supply you with roads or the electricity.... guess the thought is great but impossible.

I think the time without money will take a little time to get to, but I think it could be a new direction for humans. For such a long time, few have greatly prospered, while many work away their existance. Could you imagine a society based off of.. pride? Yes, pride can be a dirty thing, causing some problems, but used in the right way, I think it could be a good transition point. Taking pride in your work, everyone doing as such, and all needs being met. Eventually, I have hope in people.

"Money has yet has made no man happy not it will ever make. It has nothing in its nature to produce happiness. Once a person gets rich the next ambition is to get richer. Instead of filling a vacuum it only creates another"

I'm sure people will still find ways to make sure not everybody gets a fair share. But I can imagine life without money. It wouldn't be that hard. We'd use the barter system. Say you wanted a book on deep sea diving. The person who had it might want something of yours. A trade makes it all work. Maybe they want you to clean their driveway, and some other stuff. The two of you dicker and work it out so each person feels like they won. It would be important for the people to learn how to talk to each other. sitting in one's house and ignoring the world wouldn't work! There would have to be some kind of interaction to find out what each person has to offer.

I agree, we can go back to the barter system, but now that we know the worth of things... I think it will not be easy trading as well...

Now the world can't go back to the past where money was not used. But when we imagine life without money, it is really crazy. A vendor giving you the things just like that, a jeweller shop owner selling his jewellery just like that - oh! it's really crazy isn't it. I don't think it is possible.

Yes, without money, no one will want to work, because everything is available. But if nobody is working, who will be making the things that people want right? I guess... it's a good idea to take out money in the system... for a day or two it will be fun, but in the long run, it can make things worse... and it can teach people to become greedy, and those who already are to be more.

Indeed. The love of money is the root of all evil. There is still ways in which we can do things. This way could probably help it's called bartering. Let's say that we had the same technology as we had today. They could assign people to small colonies. Where every person has a trade and every family has a general one. Everyone does there jobs good. And if I want to get something from you I would trade my service or goods for your service or goods. Let's say I'm a rice farmer. And you are a refrigerator maker or something. Then I would trade some of my rice with you. But you would not want rice alone. So I would go off trading my rice for other stuff that you want. Until I have enough goods to pay you. Then I get my refrigerator. It's not as good as money in terms of a standard value or shelf life. But it was used before. Money is driving everyone insane right now. No money, no crime, no recession and no new world order. Their whole plans are based upon getting more money.

Life can still go on without money.Wwe can trade things when money does not exist anymore. The downside of it is those who have no goods worthy for exchanging will have nothing in return. If money will disappear one day,man should be more industrious so that they can produce a certain product they can trade to others. I also beieve that money is not the root of all evils. The root of all evils is greed.MOney is just a material thing.Mans greediness is the real culprit. Have a nice day.

I can't imagine a world without money. Even if we get rid of our current money another system will be developed and something is bound to act like money again. I think having money is an easy way for us to exchange goods and services. It's like a common ground and less subjective. We can only do so much about the inequalities of income and i believe the amount of money you earn highly depends on yourself.
