The news has been reporting on UFO sightings over New Jersey the last few days and there has been much speculation as to what people are seeing. Many have simply said aliens and one person claims flares attatched to ballons. After watching the videos on the news and examining the pictures, I know exactly what it is people are seeing. They are called sky lanterns. A nifty party favor that resembles a cross between a Chinses lantern and a miniature hot air balloon. The come in a variety of colors and shapes and once up in the air, are subject to winds aloft and can move in all sorts of strange ways and eventualy burn out and "vanish" in to thin air. http://www.theskylantern.com/info/Pictures_Sky_Lanterns.html

I'm sure thats what these are because I watched the news video, saw the pictures and then looked at sky lantern videos and pictures...perfect match. I believe somewhere out there is life, but as to whether or not we have ever encountered it or not, it's hard to say, the distances between us and other stars is so vast thatwe may or may not ever meet another civilization.

"but i personally believe that they are far superior than us in technology" Well, if they have the ability to indeed travel here, then yes, they are, several hundred years ahead of us at least. I think most UFOs can be explained by mundane things though and it is also VERY easy to make a convincing ufo thses days, many are basicly just toys. Theres even a group that holds a contest everyyear to design and fly a ufo. the winner this year was a guy who built a triangle shaped craft that even had a laser light attatched to the front, it was wild.

well, seems like u may got a point. but i believe that they have made contact... because of the incidents that have taken place throughout history. i don't really care for most of the cases that come from common people, stories of abduction and that all... but there were some incidents that involved sightings from many commercial pilots and also multiple verified sightings from two or more different pilots at the same time... and there were some other sightings as well that amused me, but since i am into aircraft and all, so sightings of pilot really amuse me. what the UFO were and what exactly was their technology... who knows... but i personally believe that they are far superior than us in technology... but still there is chance that i might be wrong... God knows the truth

I have to agree with you, during the new year celebrations in our country, instead of pyrotechnics, the chinese lit lots of these sky lanterns, they might have did the same in New Jersey.

Thanks for the response. I guess these things are popular all over the world. Unfortunately people see these things and automaticly assume aliens, lol. I guess the real explanation is just too boring for people.

Technically speaking, anything that's flying around that can't be identified is considered as UFO... After all, it stands for "Unidentified Flying Objects"... By pure definition, flying lanterns can be UFO's until somebody "identifies" them... Not all "Unidentifiable Objects" are from outter space with little green men flying them... That being said, that's really neat.. Sky Lanters... I never knew about sky lanterns... I bet it looks really pretty at night with bunch of the flying around, like fire flies...

Ha! That is pretty neat. It's funny that people automatically assume they are UFO's. The Chinese lanterns are very pretty and interesting. I have never seen them before. Thanks for sharing this!

They are available all over the world, do be carefull if you use them, they can sometimes land in the wrong place or get blown oout of sight and cause brush fires.
