A couple of months ago I started a discussion saying that I had seen a cat like creature at the end of my lane early one morning, unfortunately no camera with me. It wasn't a dog or a fox and much larger than a domestic cat, in yesterdays paper it was confirmed that forest rangers themselves had spotted wild cats whilst on duty and I have attached the news link for you to read. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/article2100752.ece INFO LINK ONLY There have been over 12,000 reported sightings now, so are we all imaging things are do you think they really are out there? Have you come across any creatures in your location that aren't usual habitants to the area or country even? Please share. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie Back in 2005 there was a report in our local paper that a women had seen an animal that looked liked a black panther savage a dog. This happened in a place called Ashridge which is run by the National Trust. They dismissed it as foxes. This sighting was never confirmed but i do believe that there is defiantly big cats living wild.

Hi Littleone, They are always ready to dismiss it and yet isn't it usually dogs that attack the foxes? The lady probably did in fact see a wild cat of some sort. There have been too many sightings now for them not to be out their living wild I agree. Huggles. Ellie :D

good Morning ellie, OMG, that first picture looks like Jr. Maybe these cats are coming down because they may not find something to eat or drink. Or maybe if there are hunter in the area they are scaring them and going toward the public. It be sad to kill one of them. We don't have anything out of the norm, we have seen a possum (not sure of spelling) my neighbor has seen a Raccoon but that about it. be careful and put all your animals inside at night.

Hi Ellie, That not right the people actually keep wild animals as pets and than send them off. What is wrong with these people. These animals don't know anything but what they were brought up with. I hope they capture them and send them to a zoo. I feel so sorry for them, it's not their fault for the killing that they do.

Hi kaleegirl, These cats are not at all native to the UK and we can only summise that people who have kept wild ones as pets have set them free or they have escaped from zoos in the past and have somehow survived. Huggles. Ellie :D

I wonder if these cats escaped from a zoo, a circus, or someone brought a couple over from India and it got loose. So did any of the circuses or zoos report that one of their animals got loose? I live in Manitoba, and I saw one strange animal that looked something like a cross between a gopher and a mink but it was giant sized. I took it to be an escapee from a science lab. I heard that sometimes people bring exotic animals as pets. I remember when we used to live in Vancouver, B.C. someone's canary got loose and it was living around our neighborhood.

I do not like circuses but it is not because of the animals, but I am scared of clowns and there was a case when a certain group of people were allowed to be just outside the rink and sit down and watch, and I did not like that those who were mentally retarded can get to watch close up. While we others were watching as a distance. I figured that if they were able to do that, what would happen if it was based on color, race, religion, etc. I rather like animals in a circus, as long as their treated well and get good food, and are loved. And I loved the ladies riding on those horses with the big plumes. Never liked the idea of circus de soleil.

Hi Suspenseful, Yes in the past circuses had wild animals and people used to keep as pets then the UK bought in a Dangerous Animals Act and I think that was when a lot got released into the wild rather than the correct authority and paperwork be obtained and also circuses are no longer allowed to use animals in acts so that is probably the route cause of how they are out there. I think it is wonderful that they have survived but also sad that this has happened as it is not a natural environment for them. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Marketing, Big cats can be dangerous but these seem to stay away from where humans are and probably hunt for their food at night on a diet of deer. Huggles. Ellie :D

It's fascinating, Ellie- and I'm sure people aren't imagining things! In Australia, people have even taken casts of pawprints and found scats. Some of the people are frightened these big cats are venturing closer to homes and might attack a child. Poultry has already been taken - but I guess until someone finds a deceased big cat, there will still be sceptics.

Hi Guybrush, Yes once a body of a cat is found and confirmed people will always be sceptical. I know what I saw and so many others have too. I love big cats and if they are out there surviving good luck to them as long as they stick to livestock eh! Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Insulin, They do not scare me as they keep themselves to themselves and hunt deer and rabbits I expect but if there food supply were to become scarce they may ventrue into more built up areas and could perhaps then become a threat. Amazing creatures I agreee. Huggles. Ellie :D

oh I didn't know that, that there are no wild cats in the UK, so you are right it must have escaped for a zoo or a circus or something. But wouldn't that be on the news that an animal had escaped, it is weird.

Hi Winterose, I am fascinated by it as there are no wild cats that are native to the UK so they must have come from escaped or freed big cats at some stage. Huggles. Ellie :D

It comes to me as a surprise to get to know tha wild big cats are in Uk. I did not think that they could survive in the cold temperature of the British Isles. It is quite strange to get to know that there are wild cats in the Uk countryside. Quite weird. I have not get to know that there are strange animals in my area. We have few countryside where such creatures can hide.

Hi Ronaldinu, The Sun page three girls eh! LOL. No this story has been in other papers too and there have been so many sightings there has to be some out there surviving probably escaped or let loose when the Dangerous Animals Act came in. I have spotted one near to me and so have a few neighbours. Huggles. Ellie :D

That's from the SUN which also reports that the devil has appeared in almost everything & that the world would end on so many days that have already passed that I've lost count. I wouldn't be likely to believe those people if they said they printed their magazine on paper much less anything else.

Hi Uath, That was the link I used but it was reported in many others. I know some of their stories are a bit ???? but they support the forces which is something I do too and on this occasion I believe what has been said as I am a witness to seeing a large wild cat like creature myself. Thank you for sharing your thought. Huggles. Ellie :D

I've heard about this for years now. I suspect that these are escapees from traveling shows or privete owners. There are stories about a jaguar outside of Austin years ago, in fact, one of the schools in the area has that as a mascot because of it.

Cats are very adaptable, and can be quite dangerous, but if they are hunting rabbits and not domestic animals they aren't really hurting anything, until they cross paths with one or a person.

Hi Elic, Yes I think private owners maybe released these into the wild after the Dangerous Animals Act came in and maybe they have adapted and even bred in the wild now. Huggles. Ellie :D

That's so cool. I can remember like 14 years ago driving up in the mountains it was snowing just a little bit we stopped at the lake and on the lake was killing a deer was a pack of about 5 wolves. Now according to the wildlife experts Wolfs did not live any where near to where we were. Then like 3 years later they came clean that there had been many wolf sightings and that wolves had in fact been seen. They were not sure if it was a local pack or a pack that was moving through or even lost. I had seen them about a year after they had been released back into Yellowstone Park. However now we know they were a local pack that had just been able to survive with out hardly any human contact. I have never seen them again but wow what an experience it was.

Oh Autumnose, Thank you so much for sharing that experience, I absolutely adore wolves and that must have been such an incredible sight to have seen. I think animals survive much better without human intervention in the wild but unfortunately we have taken over much of their orignal territories. Huggles. Ellie :D

lol! bout time the government agrees! i remember seeing a show on the National Geographic channel i think that mentioned the reports of big cats in the UK! i mean with 12,000 reported sightings SOMETHING has to be out there! pretty neat actually..hopefully they wont suddenly to decide they need to be hunted down. obviously no ppl have been attacked and since the sighting themselves are rather rare, they will take the "live and let live" attitude about it!

Hi CinderInMySoul, Until a human is harmed I doubt they will do anything so the big cats are safe for a while yet I guess. Hopefully that will never happen and they can continue living the way they have been. Huggles. Ellie :D

Puma, mountain lion, panther are all the same animal and at one time roamed all over the state of Iowa until huntedout of the state. I live in Iowa and we kept seeing the animals early morning and late at night and finding tracks but were scoffed at. Then a few years ago a young male about maybe a few years old was hit by a car and the driver called in the law to have the lion verified. It was indeed a mountain lion that their car had hit. The state had it examined and it was said to have been a wild lion with no captive traits and after study they found at least four roaming pairs and some had cubs. Iowa has a huge deer population. Mountain lion will also have a huge wondering ability to find food, shelter, mates and territory markings. They have even been seen tracking deer in Sioux City , IA in peoples back yards. They will eat a human to. Iowa has a hill ridge that borders both sides of the state and is a great passageway for the lion to travel nearly undetected.

Hi Dvmurphy, I guess that eventually the body of one will be found either from old age or from getting runover here too and then they will have definite evidence. The only thing is they are not native here at all so have probably been released from a private home or circus or zoo at some stage. Thanks for sharing this story. Huggles. Ellie :D

Hi Ellie, I have never come across or seen any wild cats or animals myself, but do know that they do roam around in the West Country, if people remember a good few years ago big cats were kept and thene when they got too big and the licensing laws came out about owning a wild cat a lot of the cats were let loose, so it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it was a wild cat you saw...huggles littleowl
