Do You Really Care???

In responding to a response in another discussion it reminded me...
The press dogs most celebrities invading their every move. Then they justify it by saying the public has a right to know. I know that I don't care about what most of the celebrities do. I could care less that Brittany has gotten married, or that she has a boyfriend while married, nor whether she loves her kids in a manner somebody else feels is appropriate. I feel that MOST of her problems are a direct result of the press staying on her azz 24/7/365. And it's not just Brittany I'm speaking of. I could care less if Angeline & Brad decide to have 100 children. I don't care how many she has herself nor how many she adopts. I don't even care what country they come from!!! It's ALL a dog & pony show anyway. New movie coming out, suddenly they are in the news. New CD coming out, they're in the news. I just know I don't want anybody staying in my business like the press stays in theirs. So, tell me. How do you feel about the coverage the celebrities get??? Is it really that important to you what any of them had for breakfast??? The press used us to attack John Travolta & Kelly Preston on the decisions they made for their son. I'm sure they loved their son & did what they felt was best. Would you really want somebody coming into your life & micromanaging how you feel you need to live it??? Do you listen simply because it is on the news??? Or do you have this burning desire to know EVERYTHING???

I think the problem lies is that a lot of people DO want to know everything and anything about their favorite celebrities, which only feeds the fire more, and why you have sleaze tabloids. Then of course you have the paparazzi crawling all around the place, invading a person's privacy and trying to get that almighty "exclusive" photo that could earn them 10s of thousands of dollars. Since so many people tend to put celebrities on a pedestal status anyway, when "bad" news hits about them, it makes them less immortal. People like to get the negative, the scoop, the dirt about a celebrity it seems to be human nature. I really do think the media should really back away though when a celebrity is going through a particularly trying and challenging time of it though..uh, I thinking of someone like Patrick Swayze and even though he granted an exclusive interview with Barbara Walters I was really ticked off when she asked his wife how would she feel if he passed away...I mean COME ON...that was so insensitive of that beech...like duh? How is she supposed to feel?
I really don't get sucked into listening about celebrities...I'm fed up with every little tidbit we hear about Brittany Spears...and crap, during that time last year if I heard one more thing about Paris Hilton I was going to puke.

Haha, yes, Paris Hilton. What the heck is she famous for, anyway? For being rich?

Ah, don't get me started - it's one of my biggest bugbears, the way these people are hounded by the press and the way those trashy magazines print garbage and lies! As far as I'm concerned (and I'm repeating myself here because I've said it many times before in other discussions), if you buy a ticket to see a celebrity in a movie, concert or sporting event, you can then criticise their performance - but once they are on their own time, it's absolutely none of our business what they do, where they go, or who they are with! It sickens me these poor people can't pop down to the corner shop with no make-up or in grotty weekend clothes without some creep taking a pic with a telephoto lens and plastering it all over the trash mags with huge captions taking pot shots of their weight, skin, clothing, etc. It's disgusting - and there should be HUGE penalties for printing and taking unauthorised photographs! I know a lot of people say, 'they ask for it' - but NOBODY likes their privacy invaded - and if the people who bought the trashy crap magazines stopped buying them, there would no longer be a market for rubbish, scurrilous lies and nasty gossip! I certainly have no wish to know ANYTHING about these people - they are just human beings, and should be left alone with their personal highs, lows, problems and grief - just like we'd want to be.

I do not like to listen to or read all that trash regarding celebrates. I do not keep up with it. I do feel for John Travolta and Kelly Preston for the loss of their son. No parent should bury a child no matter if they are a celebrity or not.

And NO parent burying their child should be second guessed as to how they handled the situation. My God, the boy was 16 & had 2 full time nannies. I do believe they were watching out for his welfare. There are just times that God calls us home & it was Jett's time to go home. I firmly believe that when our time is up, we will go no matter where we are. Sept 11 proved that. Those who were not supposed to go had emergencies crop up in their lives that kept them out of harms way. Everything happens for a reason. Just because we don't understand that reason does not mean that reason is not there!!! I cringe every time I hear a reporter say I feel sorry for John Travolta & Kelly Preston but... Behind the but... is an attack on their handling of their son's condition. Then they ask a doctor who knows NOTHING about his medical record to second guess what they had done. Let the family grieve....give them that much respect. If persecuting them would bring that child back, I might could understand it. But all the reports change absolutely nothing!!! It's just the rehashing of the same information over & over again.

I do not care a bit about how celebrities live their lives. I think our press is intrusive and has trained the public to be concerned about the trite details of celebrities' lives. I have enough trouble running my own life without being concerned about someone I don't know but occasionally see on tv or the movies.

I agree, I have enough problems of my own without taking on somebody else's problems!!! I sometimes feel the press doesn't have enough to do. They might really have to work if they had to report "real" news!!!

All this press about celebs makes me sick. Why should they take up airtime with their misdeeds and trivialities of life that every person lives through? There are wonderful people in this world doing wonderful things for their community every day without a moments notice. I guess the majority of people must like that sort of stuff because it sells tons of magazines. It seems the better person that a celebrity is the worse things the press can dig up on them even if they have to twist the truth til it's not even recognizable.
The only reason I watched Barbara Walters' interview of Patrick Swayze is that he is a wonderful multi-talented actor and brings such fantastic energy to the screen no matter what type roll he's playing that it's unimaginable that he won't be around for long. Some of her questions, as are all interviewers', were brutal. I really don't think there was any use for that. I mean, really, how would you feel if you knew your life's partner of 32 years was dying? Dumb question.
As for John Travolta, all I've got to say is at least he didn't hide his son away from the public because he was not "perfect", like certain politicians of years gone by.

You have some excellent points there!!! I care what happens to Patrick Swayze, yet when they first started dogging him about the cancer, I felt they should back off. If he chose to keep it personal & quiet, that was HIS decision to make!!! Battling cancer can be tough for any person, but to be forced to battle it in the newspapers would be brutal!!! I wanted & still want to slap Barbara Walters when she asked that ignorant question!!!

Some news items are really important needs to be known while the others are just listened because thay are there on the television. You need the filtered thing but it is not easy to get the filtered news on the TV. You have to listen to the rubbish to get the news of your use.

It would be MUCH better if I could filter through some "real" news instead of rumors & gossip!!!

I about half listen when it comes to celebs and their lives. It's not important to me what most of them do. I sure wouldn't want the press interferring in my personal life if I was in the lime lite. John Travolta made every attempt to keep his personal life quiet and think he did a good job. What they decide for their son is strictly their business and don't think the public needs to know all the details. I'm not the kind of person that needs to know everything about other people. I also don't need to know everything about our kids unless they choose to share.

I so agree with everything you had to say carol. There is a fine line between abuse & a parent being a good parent in a way somebody else might not do. But does that make it wrong??? NOOOOOO...Just a different way!!!

LadyM I could not care less about Britney or Brad. I don't wish them bad things, but they are about as far from me as it is possible to be on the same planet. We live in a society now that thrives on fame, money and materialism. Actually, that not true, that the way that the media like to portray us. In my experience most people are good and kind. However, for the young, their goals have been skewed by the offer of instant fame and fortune by shows such as X Factor and American Idol. Both of which I have seen just once and decided that my life was more valuable - talentless people, selecting other talentless people to be overnight one hit wonders only then to fade back into obscurity. In the UK we have whole magazines devoted to telling us about nonentities that are in the Big Brother House. Who cares? I don't pop round to my neighbours and peer through their windows, why should I want to do it through my TV? I do hear this stuff on the news, which is an erroneous title to all save the folk themselves, and it goes straight through that sponge like mush that passes for the P1ke brain. We are the PR merchants delight, a captive audience who, sheep like, follow their every pronouncement.

I agree and I really don't care that much either..
I use to like brad and angeline. but I have not cared much about either of them since he cheated on his wife with her. Never been a brittany fan.
I am a John Travolta fan. I think that he is in a lot of pain right now. And I do not appreciate the press using me to dig up with they call news... I think that the Travolta's are entitled to a personal and private life.

I know exactly what you mean. Couldn't give a rats behind what happens in the life of a celeb. There are those out there (like my mother) who love to follow their lives but I think it's not important to what I am doing so don't bother with it. It's wonderful if they want to adopt a child from an underdeveloped country, that's great but I can't be bothered and am not interested in their day to day lives. Who really cares? Whole lot more interesting stuff out there.
