I am looking to plan a Romantic getaway for sometime in the new year. I live in Canada and would love to go to a nice hot beach somewhere. But we are also looking into some other places. And ideas as well like things to do while we go for our getaway. Where do you think would be a nice place to go? We want to climb mountains, swim in oceans, drive in different countries, explore accent stuff, learn history about the world, see original landscapes and buildings, we want to relax and have fun at the same time. Where have you gone and what have you done?

I think that you should go to Guatemala and Belize and you will get all you wish for. You could see the Mayan ruins and the palm fringed beaches of the cays in the Caribbean Sea. You could do some trekking in Guatemala. You would learn about history and see some original landscapes. I suggest you fly to Guatemala City or Belize City, alternatively if that is too expensive you could fly into Cancun in Mexico. That would be an exciting and romantic get away.

Hey Keely, Well.....getting away would depend on a few things for you hun, like your budget and the amount of time you can get off. I dont know where abouts in Canada you are but I would think that its not the greatest of places to travel FROM.....everywhere is a long way for you. But....Ancient stuff, mountains and oceans, history, romance and relaxation too! What you need is a really decent cruise in Europe....or a fantastic 2 week break in Italy or some other such romantic area. We are in England....and I have been very lucky in my life that I have travelled a lot of the world. (I havent been very far East yet though)....and one of the nicest holidays I had was a 4 day break in New York including a day at Niagra....followed by a 2 week cruise of the caribbean. The ship sailing out of New York so really, there was no messing about. There is lots of opportunity to relax on a cruise and be a bit pampered, and then depending on your ports of call you will have sun, sea, history, mountains and wonderful people and scenery. You can also make your ports of call as special as you want by doing some form of activity....and there are hundreds to choose from. Like swimming with Dolphins, Stingray City....we climbed Dunns River Falls in Jamacia and went river tubing too! We also went to Jamacia a different time and went bike riding up the Blue Mountains. You can get cruises that go further south too....so you can get a feel of S America which would be fantastic! European breaks speak for themselves. You can make that as hectic and busy or as quiet and sedate as you like...but one thing is certain and you will get your history and romance! You can holiday over land.....or even take a European Cruise which benefits you by seeing more than one country. I am a fan of cruises for that very reason....you are not stuck in one place too long. And if you really like a place, you can always go back there and holiday longer. The last holiday I took was 3 weeks in orlando with the whole family....so not very interesting. I think anywhere can be as interesting or as romantic as you make it.....even your home town.....but we all like the thrill of travelling somewhere new dont we? :) Have you got any ideas of anywhere you would like to go?

I, too, live in Canada...in British Columbia, on the Gulf Islands! Until I finish my journey to Brazil, I would say my most favourite foreign country to visit that offers all you want is Mexico! (I haven't been for 14 yrs) I used to get in my VW van, with my German Shepherd (Custer) and we would drive to Rosarita on the Baja, and live on the Beach! I did it twice, both times for 3 months, and became friendly with several native Mexican families! What a wonderful way to go, as they then shared a lot of wonderful local anomalies that most tourists wouldn't get to see! I do also tend to be in love with Oahu...and once again, I found that visiting there often and entrenching myself more as a local, than a tourist, I made many friends, and therefore got to see & do more! Happy travelling!
