Talk to me about Jollibee...

I had NEVER heard of Jollibee before but I work in the mall (shopping center) here in town and we just got a new Jollibee in our food court. Before it opened there was a big sign in front that said "Coming Soon: Jojo Chicken" (or something like that) but when it opened it was Jollibee.. or are they the same thing? I have no eaten there yet and I'll tell you why - because it looks really strange. They normal foods on the menu are hamburgers (with pineapple) and chicken pieces but after that, things take a turn for the 'weird'. They serve some sort of noodle/spaghetti dish that has pork crispy things and an egg on the top. Their breakfast dishes have a hot dog (no bun) with an egg and other strange things. I can't remember everything else but I know the spaghetti threw me for a loop and they also have mashed potatoes and gravy but all I could picture was someone eating spaghetti with an egg on top with a side of mashed potatoes and it made me want to hurl. So tell me, have you eaten there? What is good about it? When my customers come in and they have a cup from Jollibee.. I ask them if the food was good and they have all said "I don't know, we just got a drink from there". That's no help for me! lol

Jollibee is a Filipino fast food chain (the founders have strong Chinese origins though) that is probably the top food store in the Philippines right now the dish with egg on top is not spaghetti but palabok, a local dish and the hot dogs without buns is the way most people in my country eat them (served with fried rice and egg here) sure, the food tastes great to us Filipinos but I do not know if people from other countries like our kind of fast food. but i suspect that even if it will not be a hit among Americans (or other nationalities), Filipinos living in your area would still eat there, if not for the food, then for the nostalgia the place will bring. many Filipinos have strong feelings when it comes to Filipino food which they miss when they aren't home we are proud of Jollibee because as a business, it has spread its wings beyond our borders here's an article i wrote about jollibee http://causticthoughts-gracemags.blogspot.com/2008/12/world-domination-and-value-meals.html

It's very popular here. The first day it opened it had the longest line but I have noticed that it's mostly Filipino's who are eating there. I will admit, I want to try the chicken.. it looks good and I think I might the next time I eat lunch when I'm at work but can you tell me what the sauce is that comes with it? Also, what is that dessert dish they have that is very colorful? My bestfriend in high school was Filipino and I went to a party at her house once and her grandmother gave me these little moist cakes .. they were orange and some were white. They were really yummy. I wonder if the dessert dish at Jollibee is the same thing? The menu here doesn't say what it is but it's very colorful with purple and green and white things.

the jollibee branches here serve plain gravy with the chicken. i'm not sure about the dessert you are describing. i think the little moist cakes your friend's mom gave you is leche flan which is just a little like custard cake. it's made of egg yolk, sugar and milk the ultimate and most popular colorful dessert here in the philippines is halo halo which consists mainly of shaved ice, rice crispies, sweet palm, jack fruit, beans, gelatin, milk, sugar and fruits the jollibee branches here don't sell halo halo. they serve shaved ice topped with corn, cereal and sugar or other combinations--- in a small way, this is a variation of halo halo

My friend's grandma gave me little rice cakes - you could pick them up and eat them with your hands. They were small and the ones she made were either orange or white. They were sweet and formed like a small cake.. they looked like sponges, kinda. Anyhow, the dessert here in California at the Jollibee is called Halo Halo and in the picture it looks like scoops of purple, green and white ice cream with some sort of dark jelly and some fruit maybe (but I'm not sure because all I saw was a picture). I can't remember but you just reminded me that it is called Halo Halo here.

Jollibee is the counter part of McDonalds in the Philippines. Jollibee is more filipino-ish and Mcdonald is western-ish. But both though are great and yummy.

I don't think I have ever heard of it before either. It sounds like something I would like to try some time though.

http://www.jollibee.com.ph/index.php?/about_us/contents/1 Jollibee is an American Fast Food Restaurant based mainly in the Phillipines. The above link will take you to their website. Unless I skimmed too fast, I saw no mention of JoJo's. They did buy out Greenwich Pizza. A lot of times here something is planning on moving in & put up their coming soon sign, then plans fall through & something completely different takes the spot. We had a new Eckerd's opening here that never opened, then the sign changed to CVS but they never opened either. Finally a Lenin & Things opened there & closed about 6 months later. Now it is some independent Auto Parts store. Maybe that is what happened to your JoJo's.

I think I was wrong.. I think it was called Chickenjoy and not Jojo Chicken and I believe that is connected to Jollibee.

um actually lady marrisa, it isn't really American in origin. jollibee was started by the tan family in cubao which is in the philippines. although they have a Chinese family name, they have been living for a very long time in the philippines and are considered by default, filipinos in 1978, jollibee became a 100% filipino owned company

Well, I like Jollibee more than Mcdo. Their TLC and cheeseburger are better tasting and juicier, suits the these Filipino taste buds of mine. But even for foreigners here, they say that it tastes better than Mcdo. This is of course my personal opinion and taste and no one can say that I'm wrong.lol... What I like most are the jolly chili hotdogs , really a blast..yummy...happy mylotting.
