Make Your Own Pizza

How often do you make your own pizza? What sort of toppings do you like to put on yours? When we have pizza, 9 times out of 10 it's something we made ourselves. It's too expensive to order pizza from restaurants anymore, and the frozen pizzas just aren't good enough for us. We'll usually make our own pizza every couple months. Usually we'll make 1 pizza that is just cheese, one that is veggie that always includes onions, and the 3rd varies each time we make it. Sometimes hubby likes to make a chicken wing pizza, which is just chicken in hot sauce with mozzerella. Tonight though I'll be making a breakfast pizza as our 3rd choice. I'm going to top the dough with scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and cheese. That will be along with a cheese pizza, and a veggie pizza with onion, pepper, and tomatoes.

I make pizza about two to three times a month. I amke my own pizza dough by mixing self rising flour with herbs and parmesan cheese, 1 egg and enough oil and milk to make a dough to form into a ball adding flour as needed. Kneed it for about five minutes and then work it to fit a pizza baking stone. I let the dough raise while I get the toppings ready. I use canned pizza sauce, shredded colby Jack cheese, black olives, sliced mushrooms and cooked and drained ground beef seasoned with Italian seasonings, garlic powder and salt & pepper. Bake at 450* for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and then let it set for a minute or two before cutting. I've made the same pizza using diced turkey ham and chunk pineapple also.

I have used the store bought dough mixes before but they just don't taste as good as mine and I am now teaching my granddaughter and neices to cook from scratch. So many people can't cook anything these days uneless it comes prepackaged or microwaveable. I am not putting you or anyone else down it is just that I think it is important that the younger generation be able to cook some things from scratch still as cooking seems to be going the way of other lost arts. Believe me I use shortcuts to, who wouldn't when they are available.

I've made my own dough in the past too, it's fun. But I buy dough from the store, fresh, raw dough for about $1 per pizza. Since it's not so expensive, I don't mind buying it to save myself time and flour.

You are brilliant! I have to hand it to you - you are such a good cook. When I make pizza I just use anything at hand and top it with cheese. Nothing special at all. I do lile the beggie pizza's though and now you have given me some ideas to cook it differently with different toppings. Many thanks for this. Blessings

You're giving me a big ego here, lol. I am a decent cook, I'm sure there's plenty out there that are better than me. Hubby has a few cooking skills too, and we feed off each other. He'll get an idea and I'll run with it, or vice versa, then we change it up. There's always something interesting going on. I do enjoy cooking, maybe I should have gone to culinary school, lol.

I've tried calzones once or twice. There was this pizza place that made the best calzones on earth, and nothing compaires to those. I don't even try anymore because I can't get mine as good as they did. I don't know how they did it, but it was just awesome!

I make my own pizza once every few months. I made pizza for my son's birthday this past Saturday. They were cheese, pepperoni, and bacon pizzas. My son loves bacon on his pizza.

My husband's favorite topping is sausage, but he likes bacon too. We've made both. I'll buy a bulk package of italian sausage and take it out of the casing to cook it. Works out rather cheaply that way.

Gosh, the last time I made a homemade pizza was when my eldest was about 5 or 6, (he is 17 now). I remember the base was what I had learned at school and was just a flour mix of some kind like a scone base I think. I let him do it and he put tomato and cheese and pepperoni on I think I know it was the best pizza I had tasted! I really must do some again but I have become a lazy cook over the years lol!!

I usually buy the dough and sauce at the store. Most stores will sell fresh or frozen raw dough rather cheaply, then you stretch it out to fit the pan. The dough at my store costs $1, so it's not too bad. A jar of sauce costs about $1 also, and that will cover 2 pizzas for me. The third pizza usually doesn't take sauce as it's always something different, like the chicken wing pizza or breakfast pizza. Hubby is thinking of trying a taco pizza next time... sounds gross to me, but he likes the thought of it, and the kids might too.

I really can't remember the last time I made my own pizza. It was probably more than a year ago. I eat a lot of frozen pizza though. I think when I made the pizza it was either cheese or vegetable. Those are my favorites.

We like to make home made pizza too. We use a cookie sheet, there are only three of us, so we split the pizza into thirds and add our toppings. My daughter usually likes just cheese and maybe pepperoni. I like the works but no mushrooms and my boyfriend likes everything and mushrooms. We make them so big and thick that you have to eat to with a fork! yum! Guess what we may have for dinner?

When we have pizza, we always make our own. I make the curst in my bread machine. Add sauce and then add cheeses, hot and sweet peppers, onions, pepperoni, ground beef, sausage, and anything else I have in the fridge. We don't like commercially prepared pizza much. I also make a great veggie pizza. It is made with cresent rolls as the cust. Yummy

We don't make our own pizza very often. I make Stromboli a good bit though. Do you buy the pizza dough at the store that is in the tube like crescent rolls? That is what I use for stromboli. I just unroll it and put a line of meat and cheese and mushrooms and stuff down the middle. Then I fold the sides up over and bake it. The only pizza we've made ourselves was a veggie pizza. I have a recipe from pampered chef we use. the sauce is made up from mayo and hidden valley ranch dressing mix. Then you just top it with chopped carrots, broccoli and cauliflower. It is really good. I wouldn't mind making our own pizzas more often. The frozen ones aren't too bad though. Our favorite is Frechetta's. They have one that is spinach and portabello mushrooms that is really good.

I've never tried the dough in the tubes, but I might try your idea sometime. Normally I buy the balled fresh dough and stretch it out onto a pizza pan. We somehow ended up with a few pizza pans that pizza hut uses to make their traditional or stuffed crust pizzas, so that's what we use. Our pizzas probably wouldn't be as good without those pans.

I generally make my own pizza, I either buy the dough from a bakery or make my own. Either making a classical pizza or a calzone (I get a normal pizza and fold it, I know it's not exactly a calzone but it keeps better if I made too much). I am farely dull when it comes to toppings though, generally mushrooms, salami or ham or spicey sausage and olives. Before putting on the cheese I generally put on a mix of finely chopped garlic, mixed spice or oregano and a little olive oil which I really love the taste of. I have made pizza out of various toppings tuna, shredded chicken, mince etc but always tend to make the same mix, dull I know I won't say I have it very often but maybe once or twice a month, then I may go a month or two without having any then have it twice in one week. It depends on what everyone is in the mood for. I have to try your breakfast pizza, never had one with egg.

We rarely eat pizza, but when we do it is normally one I've made myself. I make the dough in the breadmaker, then add my own toppings. I prefer veggie pizza so they always have a good selection of veg on them; onions, pepper, sweetcorn, tomato slices, and maybe a bit of whatever else I have in the fridge. If we have any ham or sausage I'll put some on to satisfy the men of the household, together with tomato puree and a good helping of cheese. On the rare occassions that we buy a ready made pizza, I always stick loads of extra toppings on top plus extra cheese. The frozen ones you can buy are so bare, and the deli counter ones are expensive.

I love pizza. I tend to either make my own or buy a cardboard pizza and add to it. I like pepperoni, onions, ham, mushrooms, greenpeppers, salami and lots no lots of cheese on mine. I'm not to big on the breakfast or desert pizzas.
