My Teenager has a Charmed Life

As some of you already know, My youngest daughter was recently injured in a car accident. Her guardian angel was watching over her. In fact, I think her guardian angel is working overtime. My daughter and her friend were in the car with my husband when they went into a ditch a little over a week ago. Then my daughter and three of her friends hit a tree and totaled the car two Sundays ago. All the teens were wearing seatbelts. No broken bones. Today, I got a phone call from the school principal. The school bus got stuck. While getting the bus out, a tree branch broke the window near my daughter. That is three motor vehicle accidents in less than two weeks. Yep, my daughter has a Charmed Life. Please say some prayers that my daughter stays safe. So what has been happening with your teens? Do they wear their seatbelts when they are riding in vehicles when they are not with you??

Isn't your daughter lucky. :)) Mom's okay with us not using seatbelts when we're in the back of the car. I put them on sometimes though; it pays to be safe sometimes. It's nice to know that her angel's been watching over her, but I pray that these... these accidents come to an end soon.

Two Sunday's ago: My daughter was in the backseat, behind the passenger. She was wearing her seatbelt. Out of the four teens, she took the most damage and has spent the week on crutches with an air cast on her ankle. Always wear your seatbelt, please.

I live in Oregon where there is a pretty stiff fine for not wearing seatbelts. Close to $100 I think, and that is for everyone in the car who isn't wearing one. When my kids were young, no one had ever even heard of seatbelts, but now that they are build into cars, I can't imagine not wearing one.

it is illegal in canada not to wear a seatbelt. . we have points on our license, and you loose points for bad driving, tickets, not wearing your seatbelt. if you run out of points you loose your licsense. . plus ther eis a hefty fine. I dont drive so i'm not sure exactly what the fine is but i'm sure its a lot more then 100$.. I hope you always wear your belt.. it is better safe then sorry after all.

Good to hear that your daughter is ok after all of that! Some people certainly do seem to have an angel on their shoulder. My children aren't of driving age yet, but I am hoping they don't have the experiences I did as a teen. My first year of driving was perfect. My 2nd year was something else. It was wintertime and there was snow on the road. I was distracted for only a moment but when I looked up the car in front of me had stopped. I hit my brakes but went into a slide. I side-swiped the rear corner of the car and ended up in the ditch on the other side of the road facing the opposite direction of where I had been going. Luckily I had managed to miss all oncoming traffic. The car was still driveable too. That same week I was driving at night - being extra careful after what happened. I made a left turn onto a main road and the rear of the car started sliding which threw me into a big swerve. In trying to avoid hitting oncoming traffic I ended up over correcting and drove over a 4 foot ditch that sent my car head over heels. I landed upside down. Was able to undo my seatbelt and crawl out after some people pulled my door open. I never saw the wreck myself. They had it cleaned up by the time I returned home from the hospital. I heard though, that the windshield had blown out and the car was totalled. A couple months later I was driving at night after a long day. I fell asleep at the wheel, woke up just as I entered a curve...too late. I hit a road marker, turned into the ditch and hit a telephone pole. I hitched a ride home. A few months after THAT, I was driving home from a night shift job and fell asleep again. Woke up entering a curve, swerved a couple times but the car went out of control and went off the road. Hit a barbed wire fence post which must have tangled the fender because I flipped. I know I hit my head because my headband broke. I landed right-side up this time and was all set to ride home. But a guy stopped and advised me to go to the hospital just to be sure. So my guardian angel was working over-time too! Walked away from each accident without a single injury. And since then, my driving history has improved immensely.

Wow!!!! I am glad to hear you survived all of that with little to no serious injuries. My daughter is a few month's away from getting her driver's license. So far, she has not been the one driving in any of these accidents of late.

I don't have teenaged children -- in fact, I don't have any children -- but I can relate. I think my own personal guardian angel has been working overtime, too. My assistant is knocking on wood as she types this, that both said angels don't get overworked and abandon us. Because God knows what would happen then! For myself, in the past month, my new wheelchair has tipped over twice with me in it. The last time, I seriously thought I was either going to die or end up a quadriplegic. Neither one of those things happened, thank the Lord. As I was falling over, my last thought was, "okay, Lord, I'm coming to meet you; I'm sorry about it being in my underwear."

Oh My Goodness!! Are you really alright? I am sure that it was very scary to tip over in your wheelchair. You can see the ground coming up at you and you can't stop it. And in your underwear of all things??!!! Maybe we should install air bags on your wheelchair to prevent that from happening again. LOL

OMG!! I am glad she and the others are all ok! I am glad she wears her seat belt. My daughter and I also ALWAYS wear our seat belts. My son, on the other hand doesn't. I tell him all the time he needs to, but he thinks he know it all, He had a wreck the other day. Everyone is okay though. The baby was not with them. The daughter was wearing her seat belt. They hit a patch of ice and swerved to avoid the car ahead of them, not knowing that the car coming up in the other lane behind them was speeding and hit them, knocking them into the car in front anyway. ALWAYS ALWAYS WEAR A SEAT BELT!!

Tammy, I totally understand. Thank the Lord the baby was not with them. It is so important to wear your seatbelt. That is what happened to "my" kids. They hit a patch of black ice and lost traction. There were no other vehicles involved.

Sissy, start teaching your child now to wear her seatbelt at all times. Teach her that she has to wear it in any vehicle she is in, not just yours. Also, start teaching her first aid and CPR. Emergency preparedness is a learned skill. My girls were in Girl Scouts for 12 years. They attended many classes and were trained thoroughly in Emergency Preparedness, CPR, First Aid and a lot more things like child care, etc. I truly believe that the training my girls have received is why they are so willing to help each other and others in any emergency situation. They also remain calm and are able to help other remain calm. They will know what to do when you are not there to guide them. You will feel better because you taught them.
