username give you the correct gender id? I think mine does as it says mommy. But in viewing more than a few discussions I have seen where a man will get mistaken for a woman. Have you been the one making the mistake? How do you handle it?

I think mine is pretty obvious. I have seen several myLotters though that I was unsure of their gender based on their name and even their avatars sometimes. I normally don't assume anything when it comes to the gender of a mylotter. I wait to find out based on things that they say.

Well nobody has ever mistaken my screen name, it's definitly feminine. Although I do see some screen names which can be hard to judge. Unless I get to know them a bit and realize they are male or female, I try not to be gender specific so I don't make that mistake.

Yeah, I think most of the people think I am a guy, simply because my username does not tell my gender clearly. I'm actually fine with it. Even my own real name in English does not really tell my gender clearly, hence sometimes I'd receive formal letter stating MR... I do not really mind, unless others asked, otherwise I'll just smile and leave it.

I generally do not address anyone by gender here on mylot. I have been referred to as a man, my username does not depict an actually gender, and my avatar is a picture of some of my teddy bears and my two cats. It doesn't offend me, and I usually do not correct the responder, because it really isn't such a big deal.

Well, my states right off that I am a girl..Mtdewgurl74 couldn't be taken as a man..lol I have myself made a mistake on a few because some may sound mannish but them I guess we all make mistakes. It does keep you guessing at times that is for sure. I try not to figure it out anymore..cause I just get confused if I tried.

When I was a young boy some people used to mistook me for a girl due to my long curly hair. However I have not had that for ages. I always used male gender or male photos as an avator that it did not give any doubt about the correct gender. I have seen some avators that does not reveal the identity of the user and I have seen avators whom I thought must belong to a male but it was vice versa.

I think I have been mistaken a few times here also. I have been called Steph and I have also been called Stephen. I am a woman LOL, that is why it syas stephcjh. The rest of the letters stand for the rest of my name's initials only.

I can't say I've noticed any gender bias in responding to my discussions, one way or the other..I suppose I shouldn't go into a discussion here making assumptions as to the identity of the person making the post, whether there's an Avatar photo mugshot or gender specific type handle....Online,you can become whoever you say you are,and unless someone meets you or knows you IRL,or you give them cause to doubt you,you can be accepted at face value..My Avatar is from SL,and THAT place can be confusing...When I was using it,SL set up voice chat "in world",and I was surprised to discover Female Avatars I'd met having an oddly deep voice when they were in public chat! There,I basically let the issue Lie..their business..but it's not easy (For Me,anyway!) chatting with a "Female" online and knowing they're a Guy!

I have been mistaken many times in gender here. Especially when I uploaded my first picture as an avatar. It didn't show my ponytail, and I guess no one paid attention to my lip gloss, so they were addressing me as sir and that guy lol. My screen name does give the right gender, but only if you get it. I use the words dark and lovely (which I would never call a guy lovely!), but I take all the vowels out of it for something unique. A lot of people get the dark part, but some miss the lovely. Either way, I changed my pic to another pose that shows my ponytail, and I don't get the confusion anymore.

Oh, when that happens I just take a picture of my manhood and.. :) No, not really. As my userid is DaddyoftheRose it is rather indicative that I am a man. I suppose some transgendered woman could pretend to be a guy and choose a userid to back the ruse up... Guess you never can really tell. The internet must be great for transgendered people in that way. Just present yourself as belonging to the gender you wish you had been born into and no one really has cause to question you.
