OMG I've Been Challenged....

....to write a story about the weather and make it not only interesting, but funny. L*u, this one's for you! Everyone knows that Canada is all snow, ice, igloos and polar bears, right? WRONG! It's also wind, rain, torrential mountain run offs (floods for those of you wannabe nature nuts), scorching heat and high humidity. In Alberta for example, there is a saying "Wait ten minutes and the weather will change" You can go from cold to warm to hot in the space of 20kms. Here in Saskat. we say "Move to Alberta if you want variety" LOL In Ontario city dwellers panic at flurrys that melt on contact and the salt trucks come out in droves to snarl up traffic and ruin your car's undercoating. In B.C. you can ski in your shorts, but leave off the toques fellows, it's NOT a good fashion statement! In Quebec they make a living selling winter clothes all year round to Americans convinced the next best ski hill is just waiting for them in JULY! In the Eastern Provinces, if the fish are biting who gives a damn what the weather is! You can't trust what the weatherman says in any country. But if you watch American border tv, you can be pretty damn sure they're blaming CANADA! So, how's the weather where you are, and are YOU blaming Canada? ROFL

I would definately say that you have an acurate description of Canada there....LOL. Especially in Alberta because that is where I am from. Also in Alberta if you so choose to you can just travel an hour or so north or south and the weather is total opposites...LOL. Ya know that yesterday us here in Alberta were above zero while in Winnipeg they were at something like -28 or so. Crazy.

Well hello Alberta! LOL I used to live there too. Last night where my hubs is working in southern Saskat the temp. got down to -59 because of the wind chill factor! Can you imagine? lol Poor guy is soooooooo fed up with winter! He's home now and glad to be missing those temps, as our home is 'north', smack dab in the centre of Saskat., but he's got more snow to shovel here than down there. lol

That was a very good story. Well written and informative. I really had no idea that Canada had that much of a variety of weather. I guess I always thought of Canada as a big frozen country. Speaking of countries I just came from another discussion where the poster was calling Canada a state, like one of the United States? Go figure! He had it in the right category to.

Hate to tell you this, but Canada doesn't have a monopoly on weather change. That's the best part of living in Iowa! No matter how awful the weather, just wait a bit and it will change. It can be below freezing, but 2 hours later it's thawing. My favorite was the beautiful week in May. It had been a glorious summer week, school was almost ready to be done, and we had a blizzard. (Many, many years ago) It was hilarious! All those kids ready to be done for the summer, and they had to go a couple extra days because of the school closing for the blizzard. Northern Iowa, it takes quite a bit to close school or call off work. We used to accept it as a given, 2 inches of snow is nothing. Now southern Iowa, people are freaking out if it starts shooting a few flakes. School closes just because it's "going to" be freezing rain. They don't even wait to see if anything happens. Can you imagine California? Eek! It's a snowflake! Close the highways! Blame Canada? I revel in the variety!

16 Jan 09
We don't have a monoply? How can that be? We're the second largest country in the world! LOL I revel in the variety too. I lived in the topics for a long time. The only way you could tell the changing of the seasons was that the predominant colour of the flowers changed.....

That would be so BORING. How can you enjoy the perfect day, if there are only perfect days? You have to experience a range to be able to say, "This is a perfect day."

I loaded all my groceries on the sled and dragged it all the way home, boy was I ever tired when I got there! Again, thanks Canada!!!!! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

I watched an Eskimo lady on Price Is Right once smack the heck out of Bob Barker when he asked her what it was like to live in an igloo! No kidding. She got so upset. Told him she lived in a house like normal people and that even her grand father (the woman was about 50 or so) didn't know how to build an igloo but could build a pretty damned good house! It was priceless!

Hell yeah we're blaming Canada...at least that's what the weather man says. We are getting a "Canadian Artic Blast" that is sending our temps below zero tonight and we had snow today. We're freezing our a**es off in the daylight hours from the cold cut throught you winds that are just hanging around even though the sun is out trying to fool us into thinking it's warm as hell outside, so go on step out and freeze your a** off cause it looks just sunny and beautiful out there. ROFL But really it's all true. That's what they are saying and that's just the way it is.

I do not blame Canada! Blame has nothing to do with it. It is useless too! Oh Canada! how strange the weather seems to be there. Our weather is similar in that it can change every day, from one minute or hour to the next. we do not blame Canada. We blame global warming caused by bad government policies.
• Regina, Saskatchewan

Welllllll, that cold air DOES come down here from up north! But, I don't blame Canada. I blame the American government! They shoulda built a 'weather retaining wall' centuries ago along the American/Canadian border!!! Nah, just kidding. But you can use that in your weather story! It's darned frigid outside right now! 17 deg. F and falling. The high tomorrow is supposed to be 16 with a low of 1. ONE!!! That's not normal for Virginia! I just had to go out to pick up a precription and I must've looked like Nanook of the North!!! All bundled up, face all but obscured with a scarf, hat, gloves, boots, the works! You see, the wind is blowing so the wind chill makes it feel even colder. Okay, okay, so I'm a cold weenie! I admit it. I'm not ashamed! I don't know how those guys in Wisconsin or Minnesota handle temps dipping way down into the negative numbers! Oh, no! Just put me on a stick and call me a mentalsickle!!!
• Regina, Saskatchewan

I LOVE the idea of a weather retaining wall, so yeah, I blame the American government too! I do! I do! Wow! It felt sooooo good to say that! ROFL Mentalsickle, you are a 'cold weeny' for sure. Last night it got down to -59C in southern Saskat. with the wind chill. When it get 'up' to -10C here we take off our scarves, gloves and hats and go out and enjoy the balmy weather! ROFL

"Wait ten minutes and the weather will change" You can go from cold to warm to hot in the space of 20kms. This sounds like the high plains of West Texas. Nope, can't blame our weather lately on Canada. You're getting all the moisture. We're just getting one cold front after another, with warm-ups to spring temps in between. Of course we don't have any -0 temps in the daytime, but it's the wild swing in temps that gets to everybody.
• Regina, Saskatchewan

"The High Plains of West Texas"...........that sounds a lot like where I live in the Prairies. In the summer we can get tremendous heat, and then whoosh! Cold air streams sweep across and we're all rushing indoors because the temp drops in a heartbeat.......
