What was your favorite job?

I've had a lot of jobs, but I can't really think of any that I consider to be my favorite. Let's face it, I hate to work. If I was rich, I would't work. But, somehow I had the misfortune of being born into poverty. That sucks! I wish I could find something I really enjoy doing, and could get paid handsomely for it. I haven't found that ideal job yet, so right now I have settled for making pretty good money. I still exchange my time for money life I have most of my life, and I really hate that part? Did you ever work somewhere you really liked? If so, are you still there now? If you left, why did you leave?

My favourite job was my first job ever. It was in a surf shop. Slightly ironic though as there is no surf where I live but plenty of waveless beaches. It was very relaxed and incredibly trendy. All the 'cool' people shopped there. I got to meet lots of interesting people and while each day had a lot of similarities there was always something different as well. I worked there for seven years. I left only because I thought I needed a change and some of the newer staff members were not really to my liking. After that I sold mobile phones for a few years, which was alright but a lot more stressful and challenging. I have also had a marketing job in real estate but I did not really fit in with the people that worked their either. They were all about the money and to be quite honest money has never been a great motivator for me. Sure we need it and it comes in handy but there is more to my life than making big dollars. I currently have the best job in the world, though the pay is not that great. I am a stay at home mum and if I have my way that is the way it will stay for quite some time. My ideal job is that of a writer. ~ fairy wishes & butterfly kisses ~

Hello, and thank you for responding to my discussion. It sounds like you primarily had some terrific work experiences, and I don't blame you for moving on when you didn't feel comfortable with your co-workers. I agree that the job of a 'mom' is the most fun, and important job you can have. If only we can find a way to turn it into cash. Let me know if you ever figure that one out! I too, like to write, and would love to find a way to make money at that. You sound like you are very good at expressing yourself, and I can see that your ability to write is very impressive. It's refreshing to read sentences that are constructed correctly, and with words used in their proper context. For that I thank you ever so much.....Take care.

It was my pleasure to respond and welcome to myLot. Thank you also for you kind words. Being a mum is just the best but yes if we could just do something about the pay factor! As for getting paid for writing, I have actually come across a few sites, however they pay is minimal, though the more you write the more you get paid. I write at a site called Helium which is pretty good, especially if you were able to write an article a day here is a link to my profile there if you are interested http://www.helium.com/users/291024/show_articles I also have a parenting site hosted at YouK the link is http://parenting.youk.uk.com/

My favorite job entails a few of my favorite things: writing, photography and design. I worked as a news reporter for a small town newspaper for two years. I was promoted to Managing Editor after only one year on the job. However last June the corporation that owned the paper brought in a new publisher and moved our old one to another newspaper in a town not too far from ours. The new publisher felt that although I had proven myself and the community was happy with my work I couldn't hold that position because I did not have a degree in Journalism. I also felt she didn't like me from the beginning. So I came to work one day to find a small amount of my belongings already boxed up and when she arrived she told me that she just couldn't work with me so she was letting me go. Of course, in a right to work situation this behavior is legal I have found out. She may have taken that position from me. However I will never let her take away my love of the job and will someday be doing that type of work in my hometown again.

Hi tammytwo and thank you for your message. I'm so sorry to hear about what happened to you. And, what mke it worse is that you really liked what you did. Its hard to find something to earn a living from that we actually enjoy. Unfortuantely, in the society we live in there are no laws to protect the worker. It just goes to show where our government has their priorities. Nevermind that when we work, we pay taxes. It's a double edged sword. Maybe some day your former boss will find herself in the same situtation. Wouldn't that be grand? Karma, you have to love it!

I don't think that I've ever had a job that I totally loved. Every job has it's ups and downs. I don't think I could pick a favorite, but I have been at my current employer for 6 and a half years. I've done many different jobs since I've worked there and I have to say that the job I've been doing for the past couple years at my current employer is my favorite job since I've been employed there. Right now I am processing orders being shipped out by UPS and FedEx. I get to work alone, which is right up my alley. I don't mind working with other people, but most people get too crabby for me and I'm more of a relaxed and laid back kind of person.

Hello singlemommy, and thank you for responding to my discussion. Without further ado, I would also like to that you for picking one of my responses to you as 'best response'. It's my very first, and I've only been on the site for a week. I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate the honor, and also you for taking the time to even read my comments. As to your response to this discussion, I can relate with you in that I haven't really had any jobs I've truly enjoyed either. But, we all have to work to take care of our families, so it's a necessary evil. Although I've had jobs I really didn't like, I didn't walk around hating others like some people do. You know how sometimes you come in contact with someone and you get your head chewed off? Well, it's obvious they don't like their jobs. I wish everyone who had a job they didn't like would realize it, and actively find another. It's a no win situation when people like that stay in those jobs. It's rare that we find a job we can consider to be our niche. You are very fortunate to find yours. Kudos to you......

I have had many different jobs, I have learned something from all of them, but there are only two of those jobs that I really liked: One of them was in a home for the mentally disabled and the other one was in a nursing home. My job in the home for the mentally disabled was very challenging, but I learned a lot and I really liked working there. It was in another country, so I had to leave when my visa expired. The other job that I liked was in a nursing home in my own country. I had some great co-workers and most of the residents were very nice, too. The job was not in my own town, so I had to go by train every day to get there. One day someone offered me a job in nursing home in my own town, and I thought that would be more convenient, so I quit the other job. The job in my own town was very differrent and a lot more stressful and I never liked it as much as the other job, but I enjoyed walking to my job instead of going by train every day.

Hello Porcospino, and thank you for responding to my discussion. I am happy to hear that you were fortunate enought to find two jobs that you actually enjoyed. Many people work in jobs, and hate it. But, since we all have to work to support our families, a lot of people stay in those jobs even though they don't like it. They say that there is a person out there to fill every job needed. When the wrong person is in the wrong job, it's a situation where noone can win. I admire you for being the kind of person who can help others less fortunte, and actually extract enjoyment out of it. It sounds like you truly sacrificed in order to do your job, and that is an admirable trait. It is very rare for anyone to live their lives in a way that puts the needs of others before your own. That makes you an extra special person, and your rewards will be given to you at some point in the future. A lot of times, we think the grass is greener on the other side of the pasture, and I'm sure when you switched jobs so that it was easier on you, you truly intended for that job to be similar to the one you were leaving, allowing you to continue to help others. It's a shame that didn't work out that way, because you deserved more than that. You sacrificed long enough to get to those jobs that allowed you to help other. Moving to a similar job that would make life easier on you should have been a win, win situation. I'm so sorry it turned out the way it did for you, but I also hope you learned something from that experience that will help you prevent a similar situation from happening to you in the future.

I enjoy where I am working now. I get good benefits from the company, I have good friends, and I have had opportunity for morphing into different positions when I need to. I started out answering phones, moved into training, and hope to move into instructional design. I'm blessed that my boss is really supportive and encourages me to stretch my wings and try new projects. There are days when certain people get on my last nerve, so it isn't always perfect. But since I HAVE to work, this is a good place to be. Now, if I won the lottery, I think I would have to enjoy VISITING my friends as opposed to working with them, LOL.

Hi Paula1966 and thank you for your message. I'm so happy for you. If more bosses, and companies were like yours, maybe more people would enjoy their jobs. Good luck

I have not had many jobs. Since I started working I have had only 4 different jobs. The one I liked the best was landscaping. The reason I left was because it was only seasonal work.

Hi wkl0442, and thank you for responding to my discussion. Either the jobs you had were highly interesting, or the things you did after work kept you entertained. I think that you had to have liked all four jobs if you've only had four in your entire life. What do you like to do for fun?

I just have one kind of job so far and that's being a medical transcriptionist. I'm pretty satisfied being one 'cause I get to apply what I've learned but sometimes, I also imagine me having a different life. I'm an artist so I would love to be a painter someday or maybe a photographer. If that'll come true, I couldn't ask for more, that would be awesome. There's nothing like getting to do what you really want. But, right now, I have to satisfy myself with the job I have because in this time of financial crisis, I'm lucky to keep my job.

I have had a lot of jobs I have really liked. I worked in a greasy spoon for 4 years but moved to a different state. Then I worked in Corrections, truly enjoyed my job, I was a case manager and helped people turn their life around. I left due to corruption in the facility by administration, they have finally been shut down. I am working on my BA in criminal justice. I also have been a volunteer coordinator - LOVEd it but left for a better job and hated that one! Now I am self employed and I adore my boss!

Hi laglen and thank you for your message. You seem to have been very fortunate in your career. I'm happy to hear you and your new boss get along so well! If only we were all so lucky! From the sounds of your career, you may be a good candidate for a PI. Or, something in Forensics having to do with PI work. Good luck with your studies, and your boss....Take care............

My present job is the one I have now, and it's my 41st year at it. I really love teaching and , more, working with high school seniors to help them get on with their lives. The NCLB put in place by our (thankfully) former president would take much more class time to implement than we have, but we try. In Florida, his brother instituted FCAT, a standardized test that has destroyed morale among students, teachers and support personnel. The effort means that we feel as if we're always wrong, no matter who hard we work, because they change techniques and rules all the time. The drop-out rate has skyrocketed. Kids who do hang in with it are constantly in need of counseling and/or psychological help. Need I say, the luster's going fast? There's also a new managerial atmosphere of running the schools through intimidation, inhumane lack of caring for the kids or teachers, and incredibly arrogant rudeness. How I wish I could make the next 4 years dash be quickly so I could retire. My health is poor, so I have to wait to get old enough for Medicare.I maintain, I LOVE teaching! I just hate the way schools are now run.

I only found one job that I really like but I left because I was just helping a friend with her job. I wish I could have stayed there. But, I was 16 and they did not need me. I wish I could find a job like it again. But, so far I have not! The job was a whole bunch of people where at little tables like school desk but flat. And, the boss would come in and tell us to either stuff envelopes or put these little toys together or what every he needed. I learn so much and every day was different. We could talk to each other and there was nice oldies music in the back ground. So, people where in wheel chairs or retired and just needed extra money. You could clock in at a certain time and leave at a certain time. But, you had to put in worked each day and got paid at the end of the day. It was great for single parents who's kids where in school or daycare. I really loved that job and the boss was very nice and understanding. He started the business because his only son was wheelchair bound and could not get a job anywhere at the time. So, he would hirer the people who wanted to work just had a few problems. Nothing major. Anyways, I wish I could find a job like that again!!! ** Peace and Love get's you through everything in Life **

Out of all the jobs I've had, my favorite was probably working in a styrofoam factory. I packaged styrofoam. it was a good job, and 40 hours a week. Except it was through a temp service, so when the factory slowed down a bit, i ended up losing my job.
