Over The Rainbow

I think there comes a time in ones life when even the best things in life are no longer as exciting. The storms of life head our way and we naturally learn to hide from them, in order to survive, or sometimes, just to not get all wet. As children the threat of getting hit by lightening or getting wet stirred little, to no fear in a child's heart and mind... if anything, it added excitement!
As young adults we tend NOT to be so happy to play in the storm.. and have read enough about lightening strikes to know to stay away! And from that point on... we hope to pass it on to our children to keep them safe and dry and less messy!
Much like the million other "bad" things that could, would or should happen. We look at life completely different as young adults.
As we look at each episode in our lives with much thought and respect to the possibilities of "what If?"
Then almost out of thin air, without warning... something totally changes! Perhaps another growth spurt that we have yet to explore within ourselves.
Age can be an experience all itself! One day you know your reactions and what to expect and understand every reason for every reaction you display or feel.
Then out of nowhere the page turns and nothing is quiet the same ever again!
Almost like starting over on the road to your own discovery. Suddenly, you learn that staying safe from the storm only offers what it always has... nothing.
As instructed... you wait for the rainbow to peek through and you take life with well calculated steps as you look for your well worn path down the same boring road. then it hits you.... Rainbows are so over-rated!

I've decided, I'm over the rainbow... just give me the storm and let me ride it out to wherever it leads me! And I plan to splash in every mud hole along the way!
DO you ever feel that the safest route isn't always the best way to go?
I'm gonna go find me a mud puddle to splash in.. I'm over this grown up stuff!

I know what you mean, when I was a kid I swim in thunder and Lightning
now I won't go outside till it's over.
I used to roam around till early morning never worry about anything happening to me, now I'm afraid to go to work at 5am because it's still dark.
I guess we are more cautious when we get older because we didn't really know about the consequences when we were kids.
Now we know 1 wrong move and it could be our last.
There is still a lot of things I do that I probably shouldn't but hey I'm not giving up living all together.
Take good care.

Uh - this jump-started a song playing in my head.
It's called Rainbow in the dark.
It starts off like this:
When I see lightning ...

Uh - I'm thinking consult the man on the silver mountain.
His answer would probably be:
We believed
We'd catch the rainbow
Ride the wind
To the sun
(etc)

You're a rainbow in the dark
A rainbow in the dark
... Still, your chains are on.
(Tones things down)
You've seen Barack walk on the water
You've seen Michelle flying through the sky
They were frightening in the darkness
They had rainbows in their eeeeeyyyyyyyeeeess
(Plasters Widdle_Tormy to the ceiling with the abrupt but cool guitar effects)

I am splashing right next to you, Little Stormy.
The other day while I was in the grocery store, my son was asking if we could play outside once we got home, he was bouncing around the store. I told him I was too tired and I had too much to do once we got home.
And then it hit me!
I'm too tired because we aren't allowed to run anymore! Remember how much fun it was to just run? Why can't a trip to the grocery store go like this?
We get out of the car. Let's race to the doors! First item on the list is milk! Run for it!
Why can't we run if we want to? Whose big stupid idea was it to tell all of us "no running"?
Yeah I understand the whole safety issue, but if more of us splashed in the puddles and ran for fun, we would feel better, we would be happier and we wouldn't feel so lawsuit slappy.
Race ya to the next puddle, Little Stormy!

Stormy, you described my life in a nutshell.. I am going through a few difficult changes/situations in my life right now and and taking life with well calculated steps, but I think that it is time for changes to be made.. I have went through all of the phases of my life, so far, and I believe I am in a rut.. It is time to ride the rainbow, not just stare at it, the storms are going to have to be over if I am to go on with the next phase of my life.. I hope I have a few really good years left in my life, so out with the grown-up stuff and in with the fishing poles, the storms and the rainbows.. Someone will have to remind me again tomorrow as I am at a time in my life where I forget easily..
Thought about taking up snowboarding, but then I figured, why not just ram myself into a tree and save that long trip to the mountains.
