Do you drink enough water for the day?

Water is the second important necessary element for survival (First is air). We can go without food for almost two months, but without water on a few days. If we do not drink enough water, we would be poisoned to death by our own waste products. Kidney remove uric acid and urea, if there is not enough water, it should not be dissolved and will cause for kidney stones. Water is very vital for each function in our body so drinking enough water is very important for our health. In winter many people are not drinking enough water instead they prefer to drink coffee or tea. I am not taking coffee or tea instead of water but sometimes I am also not drinking enough water, so just thought to ask mylotters whether they drink enough water in a day irrespective of the season. Please share, thanks in advance.

My goodness this is serious problem Cupie...You have me really worried .Being a zoology student I know that human body contains 60 % water, lungs contain 90 % water and brain contain 70 % water, and blood contains 83 % water.......... But if your brain already contains 90 % water then this is serious matter...It means there is not enough space in there for your grey matter.......Oh god I really feel sorry for you......Well it explains many things.... Sree I feel sorry for Cupie...Bechara......

First of all HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS TO CROSSING 500 MARK ! Now you can avail the facility of cut, copy and paste on mylot. Sree! You have raised a very pertinent point and I agree with you 100%. People are hesistant or say careless to take enough water and those who show carelessnes, suffer in the long run. As long as I am concerned, I make sure that I take plenty of water. I do not leave my home, without a water bottle, irrespective of the season of the year. I keep a water bottle handy with me, either I am home, in my office or when I go to bed. I know that water purifies and cleanes our body and it is essential for digestion, as well. On the other hand, my better half is carefless in this regard, she sometimes forget to take water for many hours and consequently suffers. It is I who remind her and ask her - 'Have you taken plenty of water, today'. I force her to take plenty of water. Very good post!

Deepak, Thank you very much, here I take the opportunity to express my gratitude for the encouragement and support which I received from you. Actually I wanted to reach the milestone and trying this week very hardly left all other works in mylot and concentrating posting replies and for that I went out of the friend's circle in search of discussions. Finally I reached there and I am very happy for that. I know that you are a good friend and at the same time you are a very good husband who takes good care of the best half. I am guilty to reveal that in this matter also I am like your best half but my negligence towards water in winter only (lol). Thank you for your participation, have a great weekend.

I used to drink two litres of water a day. I think that is the minimum to have a healthy lifestyle. Unfortunately I have resorted back to drinking tea and coffee. I should know otherwise and drink more water.

It is not always easy to stick with just drinking water. I am trying to drink more water these days however I can understand where you want to drink your coffee and tea. I like to have something a little sweet on my taste buds as well. It is just the caffeine intake that I have to be careful of. It is not healthy to take in so much caffeine and sugar regularly.

I rarely drink plain water! Never have! However I do drink various teas, coffee in moderation, fruit juices, very diluted cordials and the fruit flavoured waters. All those drinks are 90% or above water. Water is in everything we eat too! I tend to drink (or eat) a lot of soups in Winter instead of having a hot coffee or tea, and keep up my fluid levels that way. I don't drink the amount generally recommended even of the flavoured water but I'm small and thin and so I'm not the average person it's aimed at. I do know however that I'm getting enough fluid, as a care-worker we have to know the 'signs' to look for.

Hi Annmac, The amount of water one should take a day is depends on the body weight of the particular person. I think you are concerned about your health and knowing the general requirements for a healthy person. Soups in winter, is a wonderful option thank you for sharing the same. Have a nice day and Good luck.

Hello Sreekala! I don't think I drink enough water a day. I am not a water drinker actually that's why I have to forced myself to drink to reach the minimum of water that we should take a day. So right now, I am using the alternatives which is drinking a lot of orange juice.

Hi Sree a very thoughtful and thought provoking discussion......Your discussion really made me guilty and I just gulped down 2 glasses of water......Thanks for the reminder.... We all know the importance of water for oue body and of the importance of drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day..During summer ,gulping down glasses of water is not a difficult task. But in cold season ,and we have a tendency to drink less water.Drinking tea or cofee istead is only a poor substitute. Also while travelling we tend to drink less water due to many practical reasons. In such cases it is best to drink lots of water as soon as you step into your home to compensate for the shortage of water to your body.....

Hi there Sreekala! I do drink more than enough water on a daily basis. I drink a lot of water especially when it's hot. Yeah, on warm days, I drink a lot of water to make sure that I don't go dehydrated. In my work, I often do the talking and so, once in a while, my throat gets too dried that I need to refresh myself with a glass or two of water. But yeah, regardless of the season, I make sure that I drink more than enough water.

Hi dolce_vita, I am glad to read that you are taking enough water for the day. Now here the summer starts so I think people are depending more on water. When I started the discussion it was winter at that time and many were not drinking enough water. I am carrying water with me always so that I won't search for water when in need. Many thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

It is said that eight cups of water is enough for our body. So according to that standard, more than half year, I do not drink enough water for the day. In hot summer to cool down myself, and get rid of the terrible feeling, I will drink as much water or soup as I can, so totally more than eight. But in such a cold winter, I can bear drink so much water and go to the toilet every hour.

I think that is great to be that loyal to drinking eight to ten glasses per day. That is what the body needs to sustain the health it should. I need to drink a lot more but there is no better time than the present to start on a healthy kick. Drinking water has so many benefits like cleaning your system and it hydrates a person so I believe I will feel better over all by taking in more of it.

That is true.Water is very important for our body.Studies say that we should drink 6-8 glasses a day to have good circulation for our kidney. But lately I was advised by my cardiologist that I should limit my intake of water to 1 liter a day.At first it was very hard for me but after a while I've seen his point I followed his advice.

Hi Tinna, We are also struggling with winter (lol). In winter the requirement of water by our body is less, than in summer but we should drink water. In winter you may not feel thirsty but try to drink before our body demanding water to us (drink water before you feel thirst). Thanks for joining. Have a nice day and good luck.

I have to say that I know I drink more than enough water. Other than coffee in the morning that is really all I drink. I had an accident when I was 7 and had to have a kidney removed so I learned the importance of keeping the other kidney clean and healthy. I am 37 now and still drink a ton of water...my kids see me do it and they drink water often as well. I do understand how some people hate that yo have to go to the bathroom more often but eventually your body adjusts and you don't really have to go as often and you get used to going. I would rather be healthy than count how many times I have gone to the bathroom and let that annoy me.

Hi 4ofmyown, I am sorry to hear about the accident which occurred in your childhood. But I appreciate the way you maintain your health and your consciousness. Your kids must be learning from you only and I think you are a role model for them. I agree with your points, if you drink more water on regular basis your bladder will tend to adjust with the same. Thanks for joining and giving nice comments. Have a nice day and good luck.

Hi Elmer, Water requirement can decide considering your body weight. If you are exercising regularly you need more water than the minimum required. Normally 8 glasses of water is required for a day. If you drink juices, that can also contribute the water level of the body. If you drink beverages, they are actually dehydrating fluids and they not only do eliminate the water contained in them, but they also cause you to lose further amounts of water from your body's reserves. Welcome to Mylot and please try to add 3-4 lines reply so that you can earn something from mylot. Thanks for the participation and good luck to you.

I have been drinking nothing but water for the last two months and I have to tell you that I feel great, before I used to feel weak in the day and dizzy sometimes. Now I take a bottle of water with me wherever I go and I drink constantly throughout the day so as not to dehydrate. It´s also important not to drink too much water, there have been many cases of people dying through drinking water excessively. I drink about 4-5 litres throughout the day but I where I live it´s very hot so it´s important to drink a lot.
