Hotel For Dogs starts in US movie theaters today, January 16. Pedigree plans on making a donation to animal shelters for every ticket sold. The above link explains the arrangement. I plan on seeing this movie. It looks like a cute movie plus it will help a shelter dog somewhere. Will you be going to see this movie??? Why or why not??? Do you think Pedigree needs to come up with a similar plan for cats???

I think that if they would regulate/inspect breeders and make buying a pet just as hard as adopting a child they would go a long way towards controlling the pet population. Cats in particular are a problem--I feed many stray cats in my neighborhood, people don't spay or neuter them and it should be mandatory! We need to change peoples' attitudes about pets and impress upon them that pets aren't just cute little things that love you but take the much the same commitment as a child.

It's not really legitimate breeders that need to be regulated since they usually are...legit breeders have to have a license to purposely breed dogs or cats. It you want to blame anyone, one has to blame the puppy (and kitten) mills where animals are breed uncontrollably and in the hundreds...these are the pets that usually wind up in pet stores and most of the time aren't healthy..Thankfully more and more of these mills are being shut down and the owners are fined with criminal charges. Also, legit pet rescuers DO regulate whom adopts pets and does a thorough investigation of the people who want to adopt a pet from them...Pet stores on the other hand don't give a rat's a$$ who adopts..they're just in it for the money

Here they bombard us with spay/neuter your pets daily. Our animal shelter fixes them before they are even put up for adoption. I worked with a lady that lived on a farm, her cat population got up to 50 or so. She contacted the local animal protection group who found her a vet willing to spay/neuter each one of them real cheap. It took her over a month to catch them all & get them into the vet. He didn't have 50 to do in one day. It was more like 2 a day. Now she has a bunch of healthy, happy cats roaming her farm & she doesn't have to worry about a ton of kittens every few months.

I think they should split the difference because cats and dogs are both in shelters looking for caring homes. We are going to go see the movie as well because it looks so cute and I love dogs. I like cats to but dogs are my favs.

I agree. Just because they're strictly a dog food company, it doesn't give Pedigree the right to discriminate against cats!!! I love BOTH cats & dogs. I find my cats much easier to care for but my dogs are much more protective. The dogs keep strangers out of my yard which gives me a lot of peace!!!

well they're a dog food company, so of course it will be a dog charity they support.
I think they'd improve the quality of life of more dogs if they stopped putting such utter rubbish in their food.
seriously, read the ingredients, I'm disgusted that they think it's acceptable to give that to dogs.

My neighbor makes her own so she knows what goes in it & has control over how healthy it is.

I agree. In fact, since I have been married we have rescued about 15 cats in 33 years. All were strays or ones people did not want.
My one dog, since we were married, was also a stray. I guess people feel that cats can take care of themselves more, but both deserve a good home and love.

Our shelter here covers both cats & dogs. I was just a little shocked that Pedigree chose to say they're donating specifically to shelter dogs. Maybe that means that the shelter will have more money to support the cats. i hope it does anyway!!! Yes, it looks like a really cute movie & I'm excited about seeing it. I'm taking one of the kids I babysit to see it. I think she'll love it. She's all excited about going!!!

Hi LadyMarissa,
I don't live where you are and I think its a good idea to do that as there are many dogs need care and love also they need to go to a loving families, we have dogs shelter and cats shelters too and I have got a cat from there and I donate money each month to dogs Trust shelters.

I would like to see the movie but I do not have the money right now. Maybe next month. It does sound like a good movie, I do like the idea they are giving money to shelters for every ticket sold. I agree with you why not the cats also?
