I think that environment is partly responsible for health problems but I think that the single most contributing factor is the food that we eat. We live in a fast food, extreme portion size world. Extra large portions combined with eating food that is full of fat coupled with a lack of exercise is not only what's making us fat, it's also what's making us sick.

it,s true we need some fat but some places we eat over do it and like you said we are lacking in excerise as well.the enviroment plays a big part when growing the food.

I think the main cause is the fact that we eat so many processed foods, so much fast food, and consume so many pesticides in the food we eat. We also don't get enough exercise. We don't play outside anymore even on the weekends. We don't take the stairs at work if we are able. No wonder we are getting fat.

Hello my dear annjilena Ji, I am a diebetic since more than 20 yrs now, but have been taking medicines since 5 yrs or so, my upper level has never gone more than 356, and lower as below as 76. I only find with today's life style. Geeting up late, going to bed late, un-necessarily subjected to high tone music, improper sound sleep, consuming junk food (due to time paucity and non interest in cooking), keeping oneself very busy. Walking has been totally reduced. Surfing on net for long hours is another cause. So I have come out from all this and I keep my sugar lever within limits, where I do not have to take insulin. May god bless you and have a great time.

Well I guess you have stated almost all the possible causes of today's health problems. There are a lot of them and they exist everywhere. To name a few, there is pollution in the air, water and environment. The food we eat are not totally guaranteed safe even w/ the very natural ones like fruits and vegetables as there is always the presence of pesticides in most of them. Meat and poultry products had been known to have been injected substances that hasten their growth in to huge sizes for commercial purposes but these are quite hazardous to health as these are not naturals. Everything I guess is no longer natural unlike our folks used to have hundreds of years ago. The incereasing population is also a factor in the deterioration of environmental systems. A lot and more can be summed up as factors affecting today's poor health condition.

Food content and intake has seriously created us a problem, I think we should go back to the basic and by basic I mean the food once people used to eat like potatoes and fresh veggies and fruits as well. I agree with you martian that the main cause of many diseases are the food we take in our body, I tried to practice to eat more fruits and veggies these days and less on meat. Since in my country rice has been the staple food, I tried to replace that with other alternative like sweet potatoes which are more cheaper and can be bought in a agri market near my place.

I watched in discover channel on some mice experiments - they found out that when they have clean gut, it doesn't matter how much they ate but they're always trimmed and healthy. But the group of mice that weren't in a clean container - but were in a regular container grew fat even though they ate less. I think it's the dirt around us that's making everybody fat. It's the junk and the pollution and everything else that's messing up with our environment. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

It doesn't have to be that way. We can reduce and eliminate a lot of our health problems. Question- Are we drinking enough water? We can drink pure water. What water is that? We can purchase distilled water, which is nothing but water. All pollutants and contaminants gone. Question- Are we eating the best food possible, the way God designed it? Yes, our original food was fresh, organic, and eaten uncooked as there were no cooking utensils at one time and mankind survived. No animals were eaten. Fruits, vegetables, and greens can all be eaten that way and if out taste buds had not been distorted, we would be fully satisfied and happy eating that way. Question- Are we getting enough sleep? (7-9 hours) Modern life (computers, television, telephones, ect.) has spoiled our healthy sleep patterns. Question- Do we exercise daily and move a lot? Or are we couch potatoes and sit in front of the computer more than we should? Question- Do we feed our brain positive, upbuilding, faith-strengthening material? (example: Bible reading) The more we do of these things the better off we will be. It's helped me a lot. Maybe it will also improve your health. Good health to you!

The common causes of these health problems are the environmental pollution, food toxin, and unhealthy lifestyle. Environmental pollution can greatly damaged our body, the scourging heat of the sun can be very harmful to the skin, the UV rays contribute to premature aging ang early life wrinkles, it can caused skin cancer also partly because of the damaging ozone layer due to heavy carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Food toxin, is the number cause of chronic diseases like cancer, stroke, heart disease among others, food toxin refers to GMO (genetically modified organism)that present in all foods especially those who have grown through pesticides and chemical sprays, these foods are the usual menu served in fancy restaurants, food chains and in supermarket raw foods. Unhealthy lifestyle aggravated the situation, the frequent smoking, drinking and eating fatty foods damped toxin inside the internal system. The key against these health problems is always Prevention. An old adage that goes: An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, always rings true in all aspects. So we have to maintain a healthy lifestyle to avoid chronic illnesses in the long run.

this is so true we have to watch what we put in our bodies as you said it can hurt us in a long run.you can treat one thing and the medication can cause a chain reaction for some other part of your body to start shutting down.thank you so much for sharing

Okay, first I think the food is one of the main reason, just like you said, as we eat many kinds of food which we never dreamed about eating them before. There is a saying in China: Illness finds its way in by the mouth. Second, the radialization, as science and technology develop so fast, there are so many things which didn't appear in the past. Mobile phone, television, broadcast, even a mircowave oven can transmit some ray which will harm our health while we'll never see it clearly and pay attention on it. Environment, of course is the third problem, we all know, but will you give up your cars and just walk by yourselves? 90% will not. So what can we blame for the poorer situation?
