Yesterday.....what a day!

I never wish to start another day, the way yesterday commenced! It started out, as usual, my phone call from my son @6:32 a.m.......and THEN, the phone rang again, it was my son...he had hit BLACK ICE...his vehicle was high centered, below him on passenger's side a drop of 30 feet! The vehicle was teetering, and he could not get out of it or it would roll down the embankment...he couldn't move inside the truck, as the truck kept wanting to roll, his cell phone had gone flying...so was able to carefully retrieve it with his feet, minumum of movement! He called me first,...and I just kept telling him; I loved him....and to call 911! (remember it's freezing out there, too!) Fire, police, ambulance responded....and the last thing I heard before I left for work (he was on his phone to me) is the Fire Department (Fire Chief, telling my son to put on his (Fire Chief's) helmet, cause the truck was going to roll! I left for work with visions of that in my mind! It was the longest one hour and 37 minutes ...I think that I have ever put in, to finally have my son call...to say that "all was well"...just damage to his truck from towing it out! I think I aged 50 years! Have you experienced these times where time just seems to STAND STILL? I'm still a basket case!

The part which I find interesting... is that you went to work despite it all. So my question is... What would it take for you to take the day off?

Hello there Trying to blame the government for ice on the road... is like blaming God for putting ice on the road. If you have an accident by yourself... you cannot blame anyone else but yourself. As for insurances... well... we all know about them. They are in the business of making money. And whatever money they give you... comes from the premium of the guy not having an accident. But if you have an accident... you are regarded as a bigger risk than before... so your premium goes up.

Amen...as usual, everything (almost) you have retorted with is "bang on." I like to b@tch about dear, little B.C. and it's hidden communistic tendencies, sorta under the guise that big brother knows what's best for you! Aha, government automobile insurance, make it mandatory and then ban all other carriers! Government owns our "hydro"...no other suppliers allowed! Little sheep, we are! You're looking good...how's the world treating you!

Yes, whenever this friend of mine goes out on his job, driving for days and i don't hear from him within the day, it just gets me worried sick. You see he is a trucker and as you know, he goes about every state getting his load and unloading it too. Knowing how hard his job is, i often end up in that situation too. Good that your son didn't get hurt at all.

Thank you, sweetie1026....yes, the roads/highways seem to be carnage waiting to happen....and you never know around what corner! I do not know the courage & stamina it would take to be a long-haul driver! They must end up with a serious dislike for most other drivers! Thanks, my son was not hurt...possibly his ego, more than anything! And, my dear, here is your message for today; Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain! Cheers!

Hi, nice to hear from you again. There are times that he gets pissed off by other drivers' attitude on the road though. But he is a very careful and responsible trucker, he has been on it for 16 years. Yes, i guess stamina and dedication has a lot to do with this job, i just can't imagine myself driving for 11 hours in a day. It is good to hear that your son is well. I hope that he stays safe. Thank you my friend, for that wonderful message. I think i have a lot to learn from you. Have a nice day. Speak to you soon. Thanks again.

Hi pergammano. this was a real scare. Iam sure that it was the longest hour and 37 minutes in your whole life. These incidents remind us how life is precious and how much we should treasure our beloved ones. I am glad that your son's accident had a happy ending and that he is still safe and sound.

Thank you for your response, ronaldinu! As I said, I think I aged 50 years in that time...even the Fire Chief was worried that the truck was going to go! With my son in it! All is well, that ends well....but it sure gives you cause to stop & take stock of all your blessings! When he sent me the picture of the accident scene, I nearly fainted....I had NOT conjured, in my mind, how serious the situation really was. Did you get a laugh...when you read my post on my favourite color...are you "green"with envy? LOL! Cheers, and a very happy weekend!

Oh you would have loved my family, we had one emergency after another, when they added a part to the ER, my Dad said our family should have our name on it. Everyone knew us and we got through everything in record time, "Same info as last week, Mr. _?" "Yes." My Dad rolled a truck, not once, but a couple of times. My brother rolled a truck. I hit black ice and landed my car would up in barbed wire fence. But your son's teetering 30 feet in the air, beats our situations quite a bit. We never had cell phones, so we only upset our parents or each other after the fact, not during or before. Bet you did age 50 years. Take care.

Here I thought I owned the title "Calamity Jane." I think I might have to defer to your wonderful family! But I am "klutzy" enough...I betcha I could trip over my own shadow! My son tells me it is because I far, too often, multi-task!! And I answer...we learn to walk by stumbling! LOL! This is one situation where I was truly glad he had a cell phone! It's sunny here (I think that's what you call that big bright thing in the sky)...so I think I will be off, outside..and shock my lungs with some fresh air! Cheers!

OMG!! That is absolutely horrible. I couldn't even imagine what you were going through, with the waiting to hear something. I am glad to hear that your son is fine, no harm done to him. Now make sure to lock him up safely so he can't give you a scare like that again.

I am so glad that he kept his wits about him....the Fire Chief even praised him for the manner in which he dealt with it! I don't know if you have ever experienced Black Ice....but it is nasty, nasty stuff! When the tow truck arrived it slipped on the ice and hit the Fire Truck, and the poor Police Officer fell on his butt! These are things that can lighten the situation the following day! Yes, thank you for your kind words....but he shook me up today, cuz he e-mailed me a picture...and it was a lot worse than I had conjured up! Thanks, Chey1970...I am soooooooo glad you're back! Cheers!

Thank your for you comments! If you have never, my dear, experienced Black Ice, it just happens out of nowhere and you cannot tell it from the black pavement! You have absolutely no control over your vehicle. He is a good & safe driver, and what saved his live, is that he was half expecting Ice...and was travelling very slow! Our Angels...and the Lord was looking out for us! Cheers!
