Snow - An End to Style?

It's snowing here today. Not thick heavy settling snow like I'm sure some of you in colder parts of the world have, but snow none the less and I'm COLD. I'll let you into a secret if you promise not to tell. I have a pair of little girl's red tights (age 6) on under my jeans today. I was desperate for some warmth and couldn't find any tights in my drawer so I hit the rag bag and found these ones screwed up in the bottom. Goodness knows where they originally came from. I've slit across the toes so that they're 'footless' for someone with longer legs, and I can just about squeeze my legs into them, like overstuffed sausage skins. Their most amusing feature is that they don't come up high enough around my hips of course, and they are held up purely by dint of the fact that I have jeans on over the top. Oh, so very, very attractive. Does cold weather force you into any ludicrous looking get ups? Are you bundled up like the abominable snowman with no regard for fashion, or does comfort come first?

sounds like you had a bit of fun, finding the tights. we're the opposite of today weather wise. (i'm in australia) the day started of windy and just got worse by mid morning it had turned in to a dust storm which lasted all arvo till dark. nothing worse and the last thing we need. thou it wasn't as hot as usual. at that point i end up wondering round the house is shorts, i shouldn't wear till i have to go to work then change in to another pair. i not bothered what the cows think i look like, nor what my work mate thinks.

A dust storm sounds horrendous. I guess our snow is easier to be out in.

Well, we're used to the cold here, but I don't personally think winter styles are all that fashionable. I've always hated wearing coats, especially the big bulky ones, but alas, you have to have a big bulky coat to survive these climates. When I go out I still look fine. I have a regular top, jeans, and wear my sneakers along with my big, bulky coat. But indoors is another story. We leave a window open in our smoking room, so I'll sit here in my bathrobe regardless what else I'm wearing. Since hubby's seat is so close to the window, he'll sometimes wear his coat over his bathrobe!

My house is freezing indoors too, even with the windows shut. I haven´t been wearing my bathrobe on, but I have enough jumpers to make me look like I´ve eaten too many pies!

I have never seen snow in my life, except in pictures. Must be beautiful in your part of the world!! Well, we are now having what is supposed to be winter, but it is just a little bit cooler than summer. The days are still very very hot, and only the nights are cool. Since I close my windows, I hardly feel the cold. I am dressed the same way I usually dress the other times of the year. Cheers and happy Mylotting

Much though I moan about winter weather, I actually appreciate the change of the seasons.

When it is really cold out, fashion does not even enter my brain. I wear so many layers that I can hardly move. I've even done the tights thing....not as small as that as I have long legs and they'd only come up to my knees I'm certain....that would go against my comfort quest. We had sub-zero temps for a few days here. It was downright painful. Try to keep warm.

Actually, I have no style! I dress for comfort. I have my thermal top covered with a long sleeved shirt, some polyester "leggings" under some sweat pants and thick socks and slippers. I'm even more absurd when I go outside. I have a man's coat--the womens' coats were half as warm and cost twice as much! I'd rather be warm than pretty!

It's snowing here today also. However, it's never cold enough for the snow to stay on ground - sadly for the kids! I think that the really windy days can feel even colder than snowy days. But it also depends on the type whether it is like a snow storm or just gently falling looking pretty.

it is hard to look cool and chic when you are wearing 5 layers of clothing to be sure! here in canada, we have had a very hard winter and i like to be warm. lol but my fashion pays for it.

I live in Iowa and the weather in January here is usually the worst from January through March. February is normally the worst with blizzards but this year it started early. We had our floods early spring and it just felt like they never stopped. When the snow started to fly it came with emmense cold and 10.5" in one fall. I live in an older mobile home and so the insulation sucks and so we say the heck with style in -40* temperatures. We broke out the thermal long underwear, wool socks, coveralls, hats, gloves, and heavy winter boots. My husband even bought flannel lined jeans as he drives semi locally hauling John Deere tractor parts and has to get in and out of the semi all day. Don't forget the flannel shirt. If my husband didn't have red hair and beard he would look like Al from that show Home Improvement with Tim Allen but hey we keep warm.

Yah, I did. -40* is about as bad as it gets here and believe me that is more than cold enough. The old saying in Iowa is if you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes and it will change. We have nasty cold snapping winter temps, heavy snowfalls in winter than comes spring and thunder storms, tornadoes and floods followed by the dog days of summer which are hot with humidity you can see waving heat waves in the air and sometimes no breeze with lightening, thunder downpours and worse tornadoes and here comes the fall which can be a combination of all three of the earlier seasons. It is a beautiful state though if you can stand the odd weather.

I was just replying to someone earlier, saying how much i enjoy the changes in the sesons. I think Iowa might be too much of a good thing though Lol

Today we are actually seeing sunlight and I am not complaining one bit! More snow headed for us this weekend. I don't have any 6 year old girls hanging around so I opt for hubbies thermal underwear...oh yeah..you don't even want a description of that! LOL The only good thing is when Spring comes and I shed all of these clothes I feel like I have done an amazing weight loss program through the winter! LOL 10 pounds shed overnight! Woo Hoo. Stay warm, Spring is bound to come sooner or later! LOL
