http://www.foxnews.com/politics/first100days/2009/01/23/obama-lift-ban-overseas-abortion-funding/ In a time like this, where people in our country are losing job, stores are closing, people are hungry, taxes are high, we can't afford insurance, now we are paying for international abortions. It is just another way for the USA to meddle in the affairs of others. I know wha some will be thinking but about the women whose life is in danger. Those countries need to deal with that on an individual basis in their own hospitals. This will become just like it has in this country....Another form of birth control. People complain about the cost of the war and all the people dying. Well, this is another costly war that kills the innocent and your tax dollars are paying for it. What do you want your money to go? Insurance or international abortions?

Don't we have more important things to be worried about right now? How did this rank as one of the first things Obama HAD to do when he got into office? I mean really where is this man's focus? We have our own very serious problems and he is worried about us paying for family planning choices for the rest of the world. Oh man...I really think it is going to be a long four years.

It certainly is going to be a long four years. I am paying almost $800 in insurance a month and it barely pays any of my meds, and Obama is worried about paying for international abortions. We need to mind our own business. If they want to mate like rabbits they have to be responsible for it. It is common sense. What don't internationals understand about that?

When I read about this yesterday it did bother me. I know change is in store with Obama as our President, but I certainly didn't expect him to make this one of the first things he would tackle. I'm dismayed, and I think he needs to stick with his priorities. Yes, I don't support abortion at all, but still, I think anyone would question the reasoning of going this route at this moment. If we are sending any kind of funding overseas, there are a million better ways of spending it than on abortions.

Amber, they try to dignify this by saying they are providing people with "healthcare"....that is not healthcare. There are plenty of people here who could use healthcare. I pay almost $800 for insurance a month and it only pays a fraction of my meds which run into several thousands a year. If they want to give healthcare to anyone, let's start here in the USA. I will take some of that healthcare, and I don't want it in an abortion.

What ever happened to having a President that puts the needs of the American people first?

Time will tell...the people who voted for him are so blindly in love they will never think about whether their needs are taken care of. They will just continue to chant his name.

Those without a voice - Maternal mortality is a worldwide problem.
There are a lot more choices than that if you want to discuss where each individual American wants their tax dollars to go so it's not as simple as "insurance" or "abortion". Yes, things are tough here but should we as a nation turn our backs on the rest of the world? Should we stop helping those who cannot help themselves? Maternal mortality is a worldwide problem. The percentage of women who die due to pregnancy/childbirth related complications in under-developed countries needs to be lowered, for their sake and for the sake of the children they already have. Information and access to care is necessary to reduce the suffering of these women and children.

Why are we obligated to spend billions killing unborn children in other countries when we need to dig ourselves out of a recession right now? How will this help dig us out of debt? Bush spent billions giving more aid to Africa than any leader in the history of the world and despite that he's hated and NOBODY, especially the democrats here in the US, give him any credit for it. Spall, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you one of those people who want the government to make sure everyone in THIS country has health care? How is that going to happen when instead our money is going overseas to give what you consider health care to people that contribute nothing to our nation?

I actually don't mind our money going towards this, but I don't care for these type of things. As you said, it's way to easy to take advantage and waste it and money. I also think the country doing it will mess it up or only certain people will be allowed abortions but not all who need them.

I live in Canada, and it seems that people in our government are all for killing the unborn in other countries. When Bush was President, those of us who are anti-abortion and against the murder of the innocent, thought "here is someone who does not want America to pay for abortions in other countries, maybe Canada should follow suit." and now Obama lifts the ban on overseas abortion funding and I guess there are people who are behind him. Why? Because he is the first part black president of the United States. Yet with the recession on, and it will happen in Canada, and people losing their jobs here, what is more important? I guess we know how Obama stands= "getting rid of the excess population" as Charles Dickens quoted in The Christmas Carol.

You are niave about what this is about. This is a part of programs in developing countries. The programs include maternal and child health, especially issues regarding infant mortality (much of which comes from diarrhea and AIDS). Also educational programs regarding methods of birth control and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. If you feel that this information is not important, especially in illiterate nations, then you are callous to the life of these people. Many of the people subject to these programs are starving and watch their children die right before their eyes. This is the very first program that Bush cut on his first day in office, a Sunday. Some Christian!

The program also pays for abortion. You seem to know enough about people in other countries but not enough about the people in your own country. There are many people in the USA who have no insurance and no healthcare. So we should forget about them? Miss Generous, you can pay for this program yourself, and all of your liberal friends.
