I just went to my local Goodwill and I got some great deals and only spent $9.00!! I got my son a few Wiggles toys and a big Lightening Mqueen car that has sounds thing on the top. I also got about 6 yards of light blue felt that can be used for hats, play food, etc. I also got a new uncut pattern for making my little one some shorts and t-shirts for sizes 4-7!! 50 cents!! More sewing to be done!! I have so many patterns for myself clothes and my son clothing. I will be sewing all of the time. I have patterns to be able to sew sweat suits up until my son is 14!!!! I am sewing a new shirt for myself now and will show it soon.

loving what i just read. i know how to sew too and having four children and a single mom thrift stores are my best friends. lol. i also buy cloth for curtains and pillows. so i no longer buy expensive curtains i just buy the clothe. we moms really need to spend our money wisely and it is a plus factor if we know how to sew.

it is true that moms always locate and go to thrift stores. this is the only way that we can save some money on expenses we incur on things that we need to have. to be able to sew, at least the simple things we need at home, is a plus factor for the mothers. there is so much that we can do and save by knowing how to make those curtains and pillow cases.

by the way they just opened a dollar store here " not general dollar " and everything and i mean everything is only a buck, but by the time you leave the store you have 10 of something. even garbage cans not the little one's mind you. that's how they make the money to survive i guess, stuff like colgate tooth brushes instead of 3bucks only a buck stuff like that, hey i'm impressed. i'm rattling so i'll go

That is very nice... i always wished that i can sew... but never had the chance to really learn... i didn't know they have those ready made patterns... that would make sewing a lot easier... years ago... my father bought my mother a sewing machine but i still was not able to learn... and that is just too bad...

It's a great feeling when you make a great purchase like that. I think its like the thrill of victory that makes one happy. Sounds like you made out pretty well today. Sometimes you have to hunt and sometimes when you go there is nothing, but there are good days when you can pick up several useful items.

Yes, they are great. I tend to buy videos and cassettes from them for next to nothing, and sometimes also books.

Yes!! Thrift stores are a great place to get books. I do not think that I have bought a new book in years. Why would I ?? Just go to thrift store and buy them and that is in a way recycling.

I love saving money and getting a good deal. By shopping at the thrift stores you are also helping to recycle because you are re-using items where new items do not have to be produced and they are not ending up in the landfill. We throw away so many useful things. Things that are not useful to you anymore may just be useful for someone else. I have found some good deals there as well. Right now I need to get the best deals I can as our finances are very limited. Have a wonderful day!!!!

I used to go to our local salvation army shop but not any more. My son loves books and thats the only reason we go there because we were able to get lots of book cheap. Now they have put up the prices so much its not worth it. A book that is $3 in the shop they are selling it for $2 and its used book. I dont know why but everyone around here is complaining about it. My only eg is the books as that the only thing we buy there. They always have piles of things that people donate the people work there for free and they own the shop. No need to put up the prices like they did.

Gotto love the Goodwill. I went to our local one here. And spent $20. Got a load of clothes for my newborn son. Everything was in terrific condition. Just had to take off the tags and wash. Now we are ready to go. You can't beat it.

Oh great, you seem to be doing a good job not only for sewing suits that are still useable but by being such a wise spender. Yes I call it wise spending buying in thrift stores as you can see, there are a lot of nice things there that are still very useful (although m ost of them are second-hands) for very cheap prices. And there are also old stock stuff from dept stores w/c are still having price tags on them for very reasonable price. I know all these stuff because i always go to thrift stores almost every weekends and I love shopping there.

I have only recently started enjoying shopping at thrift stores. I went because I saw this idea of making purses out of old sweaters, and needed some sweaters to use. There were all sorts of interesting things at the thrift shop, in addition to the sweaters (which I did find, too, by the way). I like the idea of using things that would be thrown away and also like the fact that the money at most of these places goes to charity. Of course in this day and age, a lot more people are taking advantage of shopping there, but honestly, most of the things I saw were in good condition (except maybe books, most of which looked old). Some of the stuff was overpriced as well. Still, if you are on a good hunt, yo can find some real treasures there. I love to sew and wish I could find more sewing items at our store. I haven't found any so far, but I have gotten sewing items at garage sales (bags of ribbons etc) that I have put to good use.

thrift stores really help us so much coping with our budget and at the same time, have some spare money for other things yet. it is nice to think that there are still some ways that we can cut on our expenses and yet have enough for our other needs. it is good to know that because of these thrift stores, you have come up with buying some things you wanted to have at such great deals, sweetpeasmom.

I love thrift stores too! In this day and age they make sense. We Americans waste too much, throw away too much. I think it is one of the best "Green" thing to do. Think about it! You are recycling. I have furnished several apartment with stuff from thrift stores. The nice thing is that there are several store within walking distance. As a side note, Goodwill is the most expensive of the thrift stores. Try Salvation Army, St. Vicente De Paul and other local thrift stores in your area. I personally do not shop at Goodwill because they take advantage of their workers and pay them sub-standard wages. However that is another discussion.
