Yes, a new computer!
its got 4 gigs of ram, 250 mb of memory
So, we needed to get it set up, listening to the router (we have wireless) and programs transfered...
So, since our usural "geek" was out of town, we called another friend to come help.
And that's when MY trouble began!
First I tried to plug her new keyboard into mine, but its a usb trying to go into a round hole... so I plugged into the front, but still wanted it in the back. So she brought in a usb 4 port and I unplugged my sender/receiver to plug it in there - seems my other usb port on the back of the computer isn't working righ.
Then we had downloaded the program for her sender/receiver and that seemed to have messed up mine! Now I can't get online!
then one of the sound lines got unplugged...
grrrrrrrrrrr
well, before our friend left, he had us both up and running, but he'd been there since about noon, and it was now about 9 p.m. And he had worked from 7 ish until 1:30 the night before.
so, do you sometimes find new stuff makes it harder on everyone?
We ended up buying her a new sender/receiver, and a new external drive... ahh well....

Why didn't you guys go down and get some flash drives and download her files on those and then go from there? The flash drives do not cost much, that is what I did when I got my new computer and I did not have worry about losing anything nor did I worry about having to hook them up to each other.
I am sorry you had so much trouble and ended up buying new products. I know getting a new computer is so exciting and not being able to use it right away is frustrating.

There is always zipping files to save space, and then doing what teapotmommommerced suggested. It works well too.

I was really happy when I got my laptop but needed a wireless adapter and router. Because they were different brands it was a mess to get working!.I had to phone both companies and put in codes for each but they were supposed to be compatible in the first place. What a pain! I'm glad now that it works but wished it could've been easier to begin with!

That sounds about like my luck. I have been having computer problems again. I would like to get it fixed but I think I would be better off to go and buy a new computer. I do not want Windows Vista though so I don't know what to do. I love the Windows XP.

I heard that Microsoft is scrapping Vista and is rushing Windows 7...

Ah, yes, such is life. Never as simple as we hoped it would be. At least you have a nice new machine!

Totally. There is a reason I hate change. Change means trouble. Change means learning new things, like how many things can go wrong at once. Change means the old stuff, that always worked just fine before, now goes wrong and you can't do what you used to do all the time. I HATE CHANGE.

I guess that is why both my partner and I read the manuals before setting any thing up. We have 3 new laptops, and 2 are on a wireless network connection (#3 doesn't like it for some reason). It has only ever taken about an hour for us to completely set up and be able to get on line.
I just hope you are all set now and able to blow off some steam on mylot.

Well, that would make it a little harder. You must tell us when it is your blind roomie you are talking about or we all end up with egg on our faces- but that was your plan all along wasn't it? lol.

Hi Elic,
Gosh! you must have had a lot of problems, good thing you know something about computers, as for me I have trouble trying to fix my webcam and I don't know much about the workings of the computer and thank goodness my hubby know a lot about them.
Tamara,

I didn't do the fixing Tam, it was our friend who did most of work. Now, the roomie mostly who had the idea of the external hard drive to transfer data. She also got a "1 gig thumb drive" to get the program to get my computer to recognize the new antenna.
I'm just the "driver."
