Lady in the Water is my favorite water movie.
Apartment building superintendent Cleveland Heep rescues what he thinks is a young woman from the pool he maintains. When he discovers that she is actually a character from a bedtime story who is trying to make the journey back to her home, he works with his tenants to protect his new friend from the creatures that are determined to keep her in our world.

Yes. I have lots of favorite water movies. I would have to say that my all time favorite water movie is Titanic. I have watched that movie the most.

JAWS is near, if not at the top of my list. I have to add the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Hunt for Red October, and - likely my favorite water movie - The Abyss.
I loved that movie. Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Ed Harris, and Michael Biehn starring. Great stuff! I loved the effects of the 'water snake.' I just think that it was really well written and acted. The suspense was not restricted to the unknown entity that caused the sub to crash in the opening scene, but spread to the interactions between the rig crew and the Navy SEALS.

I don't know if I can really provide an answer to which movie is my favorite. There are so many and they are all different. Perhaps which one you'd like best is based on your mood at the time.
I do know that water-based movies are expensive to make.

Very interesting question, you pose here...
I did enjoy the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy very much. Also, I don't know if it is really a "water" movie, as you are saying except that 90% of it does take place on a boat...Ghost Ship with Juliana Margulies was pretty awesome. It was a ghost story, as you can imagine but there was a really awesome twist at the end that involved the delightfully easy on the eyes Desmond Harrington.

I've always liked Deep Blue Sea, it's one of my favorites. Titanic is another good one. I've also liked Lake Placid.

I am partial to Jaws myself. They used to scare me but now I like them. Usually if I catch one on tv I have to hunt down all of them and watch them. I think the thrid is my favorite, maybe.
