Do you think the NHS is efficient & reliable as stated in their leaflets?

I have recently broken my leg and need to get to hospital tomorrow ,Mum called at about 11am and didn't get any answer at all, she tried for about an hour. My partner called taxis but they have nothing suitable, due to my appoinment being early morning, but we shouldn't have to get a taxi, the NHS that I pay my National Insurance for should answer the phone and provide transport. There's a little devil on my shoulder saying "If I call 999, I'll get an ambulance" but I know that's not a good idea. I don't want to cancel my appointment because I've been in a heavy cast for 2 weeks. Have you had any similar problems where you had to rely on them, but you ended up feeling like you weren't important?

No, they are not at all efficient and the sooner they get rid of some of the chiefs and employ more indians, as in get rid of the pen pushers and employ more efficient lower paid but useful staff, the better the system would work. I'm sure the pay of one manager would pay for at least 3 nurses. Better stop now before I really get going.

I think they are getting worse. I haven't needed to go to hospital for myself apart from when I had my kids. The first time was fine but the second, I was told to go home because I wasn't in labour (I knew that I was), then my child was born just after 6pm and it was almost midnight when I got moved back up to a ward because the midwife lady looking after me had gone off shift and forgotten about me. I had missed tea time and had not managed to keep anything down all day so I was really hungry and I had to find someone to ask for something to eat because no one came in to me.
