I've heard all sorts of stories. Can anyone share some insight into what has worked for them?

One of the best foods to eat while trying to lose weight I would have to say is yogurt. Something in it I am not sure what but it does help you lose weight. I have lost 20 pounds from just walking and I added one cup of yogurt a day to my normal diet. So it must help something.

The key to a healthy balanced diet is not to ban or omit any foods or food groups but to balance what you eat by consuming a variety of foods from each food group in the right proportions for good health. The five food groups on the eatwell plate are: Fruit and vegetables These should make up about a third of your daily diet and can be eaten as part of every meal, as well as being the first choice for a snack. You should eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables each day. Research suggests this can help to protect against cancer, obesity and various chronic diseases such as heart disease. This is because of the unique package of nutrients and plant compounds they contain. Bread, rice, potatoes and pasta This food group should also make up about a third of your diet and contains the starchy carbohydrates that are the body's main source of energy. When selecting products from this food group, choose unrefined carbohydrates over those that have been refined, as they will contain the whole of the grain. Wholegrain foods are rich in fibre and other nutrients that have many health benefits, and people who consume wholegrains seem to have a reduced risk of certain cancers, diabetes and coronary heart disease. The final third of the eatwell plate is made up of three groups containing foods that need to be consumed in smaller proportions than the other two principal categories. These food groups also contain nutrients essential to our diet, so it's important not to leave them out altogether. Milk and dairy foods These should be eaten in moderation because of their high saturated fat content, but they're an important source of calcium, which is essential for healthy bones and teeth. Choose low-fat or reduced-fat versions. Meat, fish, eggs and beans This food group includes both animal and plant sources of protein, which is a major functional and structural component of all cells. Protein provides the body with between 10 and 15 per cent of its dietary energy, and is needed for growth and repair. Foods and drinks high in fat and/or sugar This group makes up the smallest section on the eatwell plate and includes foods that should only be eaten sparingly because, although they're an important energy source, they contain very few nutrients and are often known as 'empty calories'. Foods from this group are high in unhealthy components such as saturated fat, trans fatty acids, sugar and salt - all of which are associated with an increased risk of developing certain diseases. They should only be eaten as occasional treats, or to increase the palatability of other important foods (such as olive oil on salads, a scraping of spread on bread, or a sprinkling of sugar on some tart fruits). How to eat a balanced diet Eat a variety of foods to obtain all of the essential nutrients Too much as well as too little can be bad for you – balance is required Everyone's plate will look slightly different as we all have different requirements depending on our body’s shape and size, and our levels of activity

Well, I didn't like diets that restricted how much I could eat, those teeny tiny portions. YECK! Always starving. Or the fad diets that make you eat stuff that tastes terrible. So, my Mom gave me this book called "Fit For Life". It is just a way to combine which food groups you eat together and separately. There is absolutely no restriction on how much you can eat. I loved it and it worked for me. If you can't find the book, just respond back here under my response, and I will give you the details.

I cannot attest for them personally as am not trying to loss weight at the moment but I guess eating vegetable and fruit salads are one of the best foods for those who don't want to gain any weight. I can say so because these kind of foods doesn't contain calories, fats and carbohydrates resposible for gaining more weight.

..you try vegetable diet plus drinking more water.. refrain from using too much salt and sugar.. drink milk which are low in cholesterol and fat.. also, try not to eat chocolates if you can or if not, just a little of eat to satisfy your cravings.. You could also try going to the gym, however, if you start doing it, you have to continue regularly because once you stop, you will also gain weight..

I have changed a lot of things since I've started trying to lose weight. I went from white to whole wheat bread. It has to say 100% Whole Wheat and you can look at the ingredients to make sure it's Whole Wheat. If it IS whole wheat, then it will not be enriched. I drink 8 eight ounce cups of water a day. I drink soda very rarely now. Soda has started to taste funny! It's like I can't drink much of it anymore. I've also been limiting the chocolates! As much as I love chocolate, I know ten pieces a day isn't good for me! I stick to one a day if I am craving it and most times I don't even crave it once a day! Maybe once or twice a week now! Upping your fruits and veggies is always a good tip because they are good for you! I don't like chopping fresh veggies, so I buy what I consider to be the next best thing-frozen veggies! I buy the steamfresh bags and steam them in the microwave. They taste really good! I've lost 20 lbs so far! Hope I helped!
