We have been discussing here about hair dryer, hair brush that could damage hair when not in proper use. Even shampoo. What about using flat iron to straighten hair? I am using that now. Most people are using that instead of going to the parlor every now and then to have their hair straightened. So far, I did not see any side effects in my hair like split ends or what? expect that the end part is frizzy. But the rest part is soft and shiny. What about you? Do you have any experience about using flat iron on you hair? what can you share about it? Just curious to know.

hi friend, constant or frequent use of hair straining iron may cause damage to your hair since it is really hot and it goes directly to the hair. It will make the hair dry and frizzy, that is why it would be best to have your hair treated if you tend to use this hair gadgets often. A best straightening iron is made of ceramic since it tends to control its temperature. I love ironing my hair too for I can save a lot than going to the parlor. Happy Mylotting!!!

I am using ceramic ironing for hair and I am not using it everyday. Only twice or once a week. Lol.. But I put on olive oil which means my hair is oily when I iron it to prevent split ends and drying...

I have a straight hair but when I arrived here in my hubby's place [US] my hair looked so dry and frizzy maybe because of the different weather and water I started to use hair iron to make it look shine and soft. It caused a big depression for me...lol since I am very careful with my hair. It caused lot of split ends. What I can say, if you want to use flat iron in your hair, make sure to use a hair spray that will prevent split ends or any damages in your hair. Flat iron should be use occasionally and not everyday. Also, make sure that your hair is dry enough to use a flat iron. Don't iron your hair if its wet or damp because that will cause damage.

I use the instyler ----http://simurl.com/InStylerML It takes a little getting used to at first but it works great and my hair looks really healthy and bouncy. I don't find that it burns at all but I use the low heat setting which works just fine.

Yes I did before but am not doing it anymore by now. One thing is that I don't have one here and am quite lazy doing that as I have thicker hair and it took me a lot of time doing that.

yes, I takes time to do that but I would rather spend time doing it than to go out with a very untidy look. I am not doing it often anyways.

Bebs, Using the flat iron is not much better than using a hairdryer. It uses heat also. That will dry out your hair too. If you continute to use the flat iron it will cause damage to your hair if you use it too often. It can cause the same damage as using a hair dryer. Try to use it on a low heat at least and use some type of conditioner after you iron it to keep the moisture in.

Oh!! that's a good idea. I am not using conditioner after ironing my hair but I think I would make it a try. I used olive oil ointment right after washing my hair and when it is dry i will iron it when I am going out but when I am only in the house I just leave it curly and untidy hahahaha..

i use a hair straightener sometimes - mainly when im going out somewhere rather than just work but always put some spray on or something to protect the hair from heat damage. i also use the protection if blow drying. i try to leave my hair to dry naturally to avoid damage

hi, when i was in college i always used flat iron for my curly hair, but now that i am working and also thanks to hair re-bonding i can now make my hair straight permanently, everyday ironing of our hair could damage it and will make it dry.
