I am just curious what is your USUAL gift for your parents on their date of birth? I just realized that i always choose a CAKE for them as my gift... everytime my mom celebrated her bithday and my dad (starting his birthday today...) I have this liking of bringing home a birthday cake for them. I hope the cake's sweetness would reflect as the sweetness of their only son... ME :) How about you, what is your usual gift for your mom or dad? In advance I would say... THANK YOU for reading this and for your future responses as well. God bless us all especially our beloved parents!

I think it's lovely to bring home a cake for your parents on their birthdays, Jhordie. There's nothing nicer - and the memories of sharing the cake with them will last forever. It's a beautiful gift.

Well, books are always popular with my parents - but my Mum likes to have an outing to the pictures with lunch at a fish cafe thrown in!

You have a wonderful parents who seems to be knowledgeable and thirsty for wisdom which is obvious enough for they've manage to raise someone like YOU! And I love the idea of even a lunch somewhere else besides our own home... like an outdoor type of activity that your mom loves. Thanks for the tip. :)

So far, i have not really bought any presents for my parents birthday.. I did bought cakes before, but that was such a long time ago.. My only present to my mom was a gold necklace about 9 yrs back, when i just got my 1st salary.. hehe ^_^ As for my father, i'm quite ashamed of myself because i have never given him anything before, but just a red packet with money in it.. Hopefully, this year, i'm able to do something for my parents in their respective birthdays ^_^

I lost my dad when I was 12 . I really don't remember any of the gifts I gave him. As for my mom, since she would say " Surprise me" for Christmas, for her birthday, we would shop for her birthday together. One year she got walking shoes.

It was a selfish move on my part. Every year I would rack my brain on how to surprise her for Christmas so trying to do the same for her birthday was too much.It wasn't that she was hard to please, it was the opposite. She loved whatever I gave her.But I had to think of the gift, that' what was so hard.

So you seem to let your mom pick? That's a great idea as well than giving her something that might or might not be liked by your mom. Thanks ONCE AGAIN for your selflessly sharing that idea. :) God bless you and your mom always

My mother's birthday falls on August 14th. My mother loves crabs so I usually buy them for her. She doesn't always have the money to get them for herself, and since it is not a food you can get all year long, I think it is a good gift. Occasionally I will get something else as a gift for her but most of her birthdays I will get her a bushel of crabs. They are her favorite food. She doesn't really care for sweets so sometimes I don't even get her a cake. If I do get a cake then I just buy a cake of duncan hines and make it myself. Sometimes I will make her a chocolate pie because that is her favorite. Most of the time when we have sweets in the house she doesn't even eat any of them. One year I took her to red lobsters, she also loves seafood. Crabs are her favorite but she likes almost all seafood. I took my sisters, and my cousin went with us to eat there. I might take her out to eat again this year, she hasn't been out to eat in a long time. I will either buy her a bushel of crabs or take her out to eat this year for her birthday.

It is really hard to shop for my parents. I usually get my dad special pens and stuff because he uses and loses them very quickly. For my mum, I get soaps and candles that I think she would like. My sisters, well they are a bit easier. Anything really for them, as they will be happy no matter what, as long as I chose it.

I try to mix it up on the gifts i get them - something for their latest hobby, music, camping trip, trip to the movies...flowers. We always have cake for birthdays so thats not something we do as a gift.

So you preqently change the kind of gift you give every birthday. A variety might sound nicer than a usual gift. Thanks for sharing that info to us

For me it is ice cream. Not because I'm cold-hearted or anything it's just that ice cream brings back happy memories of parents and children/ A simple treat like ice cream makes things a little nostalgic for me.

My mother loves candles and I have often bought her some handmade candles in different colours and shapes. She also collects christmas decorations, and we usually tease her about it, because she has lots of of them. When I find a beautiful christmas decoration that she doesn't have, I buy it for her. My father likes clothes, music and books. He is very interested in clothes, but it is difficult for me to buy the right things for him, so my mother usually helps me pick the right size etc. I often buy cds for him, and I usually choose a Danish singer or band because he likes that the most.

I normally give cakes everytime my parents celebrates their birthday, but since they are almost done half of their journey, i would give them cake with vitamin or supplements , if there's a cake it means there's a birtday celebrations, it so sweet to receive a cake from our love ones.
