I would have a few items I cherish. My photos and scrapbook is one of my most speical items. I have photos of family passed, my son only a few days old, and many places I have been. All of these pictures are special to me in their own way. I lost many of my photos once before due to elements beyond my control. It was a terrible feeling. I also lost many treasured family heirlooms as well which I had cherished. I also treasure my poetry and articles I write. When I put my fingers to the keyboard I work hard to make it good. When you put work into something you treasure it. I lost many of the first poems I ever wrote, a complete portfolio of where I had written for a local paper no longer in business, and some of my best pieces of work due to that same element beyond my control that destroyed my pictures. I learned from this experience that possessions should not mean so much to you but they somehow do. I lost so much but still I did not lose the things that mattered in my life. I still had all my family except my cat. Even though I know it could have been a whole lot worse than it was I still miss some of the items that I had cherished.

Items are meaningful because of the memories, but you are right that the memories are always with you inside. Whatever happened, I'm glad things are better.

Right off-hand I'd have to say it would definitely be the family photos of the past and present. Meaning, not only my families pictures, but those of the ancestors. Many years ago my Father's home burnt to the ground, basically, nothing survived except a couple of things that were in the basement. As luck would have it, I had the boxes of family photos and ancestors passed at my house. Of all the things, I consider them the most precious to me because those are the roots of where I came from.

That's beautiful. I'd love to see photos of my ancestors... I even enjoy seeing my grand parent's photos.

One of my most cherished possessions are my scrapbooks. The memories those hold! I have one from my college days and I love looking back on those. I also have one from my multiple trips to Scotland and England. I have just started making my daughter's scrapbook. She will be two in March and I am hoping to have her life up to that point done before her birthday.

I agree - my journals are my most cherished possession. I also cherish the letters I receive through the mail. I keep all of that stuff because I absolutely love preserving all of those memories and thoughts.
