Do you spoil yourself, just a little?

There has been so much talk about tightening budgets and not spending. My question to you is, is there a little something that you will still spend a few dollars on just to give yourself a treat? It could be anything, like that $2 coffee from the coffee house...or maybe the weekly magazine that you pickup at the grocery checkout...or maybe it's that bag of gourmet cookies that you hide from the rest of the family...or that pint of Ben and Jerry...or that bottle of wine that's been calling to you.... So do you still treat yourself to those little things...and what are they?

Yes...i definitely treat myself to those little things but i always make a constant effort to link those treats with little successes of everyday life. For eg. say a productive/wow day at work is equivalent to a late night movieshow or say secret help to a friend or collegue will inturn help me indulge in some chocolate pastries. I ultimately believe you do whatever possible to bring yourself in good mood and treating yourself to little things is just an outburst of the joyous emotions of celebrating life.

Acknowledging yoour dialy accomplishments is a great reason to get yourself a little something or do something you enjoy. I think we are happier when we take time to appreciate our daily achievements.

I think spoiling yourself every once in a while is a good thing. It makes you happy and you appreciate the little things in life more if you do so every once in a while. It is also said that people who treat themselves to small things rather than one big thing (for example a vacation) every once in a while are happier, more motivated and have better results in work, etc. Ben en Jerries... aw... caramel chew chew... sweet temptation!

I was always more of the chocolate fudge bronie myself. Yea, I agree sometime giving in to our little urges keep us from going off the deep end. It's nice to give ourselves a small pat on the back every once in a while.

I just did that to myself today. I and my best friend was supposed to check a small business prospect but we ended up brain storming for a another business. Anyway we haven't done anything except treating ourselves through eating even though we are on a tight budget we decided then to treat ourselves on Chowking. I think its not but after all to treat myself at least i have to relax myself. I know i will be short in cash on the coming days and that make me stress but perhaps treating myself for once will be worth it and i deserve it as well. I felt good today anyway and i think we all deserve to treat ourselves once in a while.

Hi uicbear.. Hmm, I don't think I'm a tight person actually I only buy stuffs which I really need When hunting my stuffs, I like to go to bargain shop and sale department I often found stuffs worth-buying there .. XD Mostly, I spend my money for someone else Like for my parents and sister or some close friends And I seriously enjoy my way spending money, It always feel great for gifting But that doesn't mean I'm a wasteful person, I do save money as much as I can Hahaa, I also like collecting coins and small bills, it's super fun .. :D I might been a spoiled one around last week There's a grey tshirt which I fell in love from the first sight.. Haha Although it's kinda pricy, I still buy it for the lunar new year dinner Hahaa.. And now I regret buying it ;-P I believe I could find something cheaper but still good looking one.. Hahaa, anyway thanks !!

Chocolate is my weakness. A good piece of chocolate can literally turn my whole day around.

My answer is YES, I loved to splurge whenever I got paid so I have decided to cut back and not spend as often as I did, and I would rotate with the things I decided to buy and all is HAPPY.

Well, I thinks it's good that you haven't stopped completely. I think we all need a little something for ourselves once in a while.

I gotta say, you guys are disciplined when it comes to spolling yourself. I saw a thing on tv the other morning talking about some of the great deals you can find in thrift stores. I may just have to take a look one day.

Yeah, I still treat myself to those little things. Why not? I still have to enjoy the life while I am alive. ? But most of the time, I will only spend the money on those sale stuff, which is difference to the past. I will buy a pair of shoes, a good bargain of blouse and dress etc.

Good for you! I've never been very good at catching sales. Every once in a while I'll go looking for something I need or want and find a good deal...what a good feeling. I think the economy has us all looking for the cheapest route to do everything.

I don't usuallu treat myself for food or consider it some "spoiling" in me despite the tightened budget we are all experiencing right now. However, I did what I consider a still pampering myself when I can buy sale products for very very cheap prices. Like what happened last day when I was in the mall. I saw the Victoira's Secret store was having their semi-annual sale and everything was just so cheap. I got 3 pairs of hand bags w/ 3 different items inside each for just 6.25$ and I know I can no longer find this kind of sale price for this year so I take the chance of buying them and those other beauty products w/c costs only 2 or 3 $. I guess that's a good buy and treat amidst the tight economy. I consider myself lucky that day.

You guys are good at finding these sales. I think my biggest problem is that I don't often just go shopping and see what's out there. Usually by the time i go shopping it's for something I absolutely need, and then I'm at the mercy of retail, which has never been very good to me

i usually never do but i have gotten magazine subscriptions.. i used to never get that since i never could afford it but i got a free offer then the xmas before last one i spent my xmas money on getting a subscription since i love to read celebrity gossip magazines.. usually the only thing i do to spoil myself is go out to eat every once in awhile with my hubby or best friend but that is rare.. other than those i feel guilty which is silly but i just dont want much anyways.. as long as i have internet and tv and music im happy lol.. and those other than the monthly payments i would already have in having them are free

I like those celebrity gossip mags too and getting a subscription is actually much cheaper than just picking them up. The little things I give in and get I refuse to feel guilty about. There are so many things that I don't spend money on, I figure once in a while, why not, we all deserve a little something, now and then.

I definitely do buy little things to spoil myself. I buy little cross-stich kits to work on (priced anywhere from $1.99 to $8.00). And its funny, because I just spoiled myself today, by buying a book from a booksale at the library. All books were sold for $1. What a deal! (I go to the Library sometimes to get the sensation of "shopping", even though it's free.... does that sound silly?) Occasionally I will buy ice cream or a shake - which I totally do not need! I try not to carry much cash, which lately is pretty easy to do. But I need to make an effort not to buy any necessities from Walmart....because I simply cannot walk through that store without buying something I do not need! If I spoil myself with a book at Walmart, we are looking at $5.00 and up! But I honestly I do not spend much money (to my husband's delight). He spends way more than I do. I think I was born without a shopping gene....and it was given to him instead. :)

Getting something you don't need is exactly the point. And you seem to have found a couple great ways to do that. I like that the things you get(outside of the shake/ice cream which I'm totally there for) are things that will keep you bust for more than just that moment of instant gratification(even though I love instant gratification).

Most of the time I keep resisting my temptations on buying anything that catches my eyes. I prefer keeping them and save them for future use. But if I really can't resist it, most likely I would buy it. And most of the time, it would cost me a lot and cuts my savings big time.

That's great! I think it makes things easier when you know what you are willing to give up and what you refuse to give up. It's only when we are wishy washy about these things that we make ourselves feel bad. So, good for you.

I don't think I ever really buy myself something small. Sometimes I'll buy myself a special drink or a candy bar from the store or something but it's on rare occasions when I give into temptations. I always think about how all those little purcahses add up and how I really do NOT need that thing whatever it may be.

I think we have to give into those temptations once in a while. Otherwise it just will burn us out leaving us feeling like we never do anything for ourselves(and we'd be right).

Until quite recently, I indulged every now and then. I threw all my change in a box at the end of a day and, when it was almost too heavy to lift, I'd take the coins to the bank and exchange them for paper money. Then that would be used for things like Starbucks overpriced coffee or even the designer original dress I'm wearing right now. I got it on sale, but it was still fairly pricey. It's been a while since I could do that, though. The coins are having to be used for essentials and the bils are really hard to pay. This, too, shall pass!
