At the beginning of January I developed a cough - i normally do during the winter as the cold tends to irritate my asthma. I figured had it checked out and figured no biggie its just like normal for me.
Well i went to minnesota to visit my boyfriend this past week and he has hermit crabs for pets (rather freaky looking little buggers when they come outa their shell)I'm anaphlaytic to shellfish - and was told this is just a food allergy however...anytime i was near the aquarium i had a hard time breathing and it made the cough worse. I took all my drugs for allergies and such and stayed away as much as possible from the tank.
By the time i got home today i was having a very hard time breathing and was coughing up grossness and a bit of blood, had neon yellow snot, so i went to the dr. YAY my cough is now bronchitis. All them pretty little pills and the cortisone needle the dr gave me are supposed to help - if not i go back on tuesday for different drugs. This has happened before to me with other allergies and a cough so i really wasn't surprised when he said thats what it was.
Have you ever had a cough or cold that developed into something worse? My boyfriend says next time i go he'll take the crabs to visit his mom for a couple days before i go and the time i'm there.

Hi saundyl~I'm sorry that you are sick! I get bronchitis
alot. Usually when I get a bad cold it turns into bronchitis
at least once in the winter and once in summer. It takes
a long time to get rid of it. The cough tends to last for
awhile after you start feeling better. You just have to take
the antibiotics and get lots of rest and drink orange juice
and hot liquids! I hope that you at least got to enjoy some
of your vacation! I don't think I would have liked those
hermit crabs either even though I don't think I'm allergic
to them! Get well soon!

I thought the crabs were really neat - however i wouldnt hold em even if i wasnt allergic to them. My boyfriend said i wasnt allowed to feed them because the food has shrimp in them (he also made sure the kitty treats he bought didnt have shrimp or anything in)
At least we know now that the shellfish being alive cause me problems too. I really enjoyed my vacation it wasnt actually until just before i left that i started feeling really bad - before i was thinking its just allergies.

It does happen. My daughter is5, she also has asthma. And as usual the winter cough. It has been hanging on for 8 weeks. She has been to the dr. 3 times. Still says it is just asthma. So I know how you feel. I had a cough that turned into walking pneumonia. So you are right to be careful.

Yep, a couple times I've had a similar thing happen. It started out as a simple cold with a cough. Then the cough kept getting worse and worse and when I finally got checked out and it was bronchitis. No fun at all. Fortunately I don't have asthma, I could only imagine how much worse that has to make it for you.
Nowadays, I don't wait too long before I go to the doctor. If my cough isn't getting better with OTC meds withing 2 weeks and I'm coughing up goopy stuff(like my medical terminology) I go ahead and see the doc.
Hope you feel better soon!

I think it does make it worse but they give me stronger inhalers (yay).
I love your medical terminology...its almost like me saying coughing up crap...i told the doctor i was coughin up neon yellow crud with blood when i saw him and he says you me phlegm and i said uhuh.
