because when you wrote it out it was way too long?? you figure people skim a lot of regular size discussions and if they saw a long one they would either not read it and reply with nonsense or not reply or read it at all??
seems silly to hold back on posting something but i dont want to waste my time either lol.. you ever passed on an idea based upon it being too long?? and how long is too long in your eyes? do you skim and figure others will??

i post discussions when ive got something to say, vent, research.. ive an inquiring mind afterall. if what i write is too long for some.. so be it, im not looking for popularity points, and this is a great place to get out yer thoughts and get others relatively unbiased input on them. i also dont skim peoples discussions and then reply. if what im reading doesnt keep my attentions enough to actually read it.. i dont bother to respond either.

yeah i try to read long things but my ADD gets into the way majoraly.. i usually dont care about length that much but this one i wrote out was like HUGE beyond anything i have seen length wise and im like hmmmmmmm is it worth it?? and me trying to edit and shorten something i wrote annoys me because i feel like im cheapening the whole thought.. i may still post it eventually.. in a couple of days probably lol..

I nowadays have become less frequent over here, but when I was more active, I used to post discussions just based on what my query was and did not care what length I needed to achieve that. I also post full-length responses wherever I feel that detailed explanations are necessary. Somehow I feel that if you're descriptive in what you write, it will help people understand your point better and thus respond or comment better to your discussion or response respectively. But nowadays, I also have this feeling that people aren't returning back to the discussions they're starting, and posting fewer comments to the responses they get. I don't know, but that can be a bit of a dampener. It always helps if you see the thoughtful comments of the thread-starter next to your response. But all this also has a criterion behind it. That criterion is that your discussion should be interesting and your sentences must be understandable. I've seen quite a few users here with a horrible sense of English and needless to say, their posted discussions or responses haven't been such an eye-candy. Also there are a few similar questions which are posed every now and then by different users. People won't feel motivated to answer these types of redundant questions. In general, I feel that people now have even less spare time in these recession-hit times and are prone to be less patient when it comes to being descriptive. Cheers.

thats why a lot of people only respond to friends that make a habit out of replying to their replies

I don't write too long usually and when I read other's discussions which are long they heave to get me interested in the first part otherwise I skim through to see if actually there is something interesting.

I respond too long I think. I just have things to say to the things that intrest me and run off at the fingers. Maybe it's because I'm new.
I don't mind long reads as long as they are things that catch my intrest. I do mind the ones that make no sense, no matter how long or short they are.
