I like to change my kitchen sink sponge every so often because I hear that they contain a lot of bacteria due to moisture. Do you change you sponges on a regular basis also?

I change my sponge once a week; by this time it is about falling apart. I use it to wipe down my stove and counter then I toss it and wipe the counter and stove with dienfectant wipes.

I replace mine about every other month but I save the old one, run it through the washer and then use it for stuff like cleaning the bathroom, washing off muddy shoes, cleaning up spills and stuff like that. **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I don't use a sponge. I use washable dish cloths that I change every day. I buy them really cheap in large quantities at places like Dollar General and such and each day I through them in the washer or in the to be washed pile and get clean ones. Usually I do this after I'm done the last little bit of clean up and going to bed. That way when I wake up the clean towels are already where they belong.

I do change my sponges fairly often for the reason you mentioned. I like to keep the kitchen especially clean to prevent us from getting sick.

I do change the sponges after awhile. I've also been known to throw a sponge in a pillow case into the washing machine in hot water with some bleach. That kills the bacteria and there is no reason to not keep using the sponge.

Not only chnging sponges, you need to do more in your kitchen. You know, the implements used for cutting meat or vegetable too are good hosts for bacteria. You need to be very careful about them. See there are many blogs with suggestions and instructions on this field.

I get rid of mine every once in awhile too. One thing you can do to prolong the life of your sponge is to put it into the microwave while it is wet for about a minute. The heat from the microwave will kill some of the germs.

Actually, I wash mine once a week in the washing machine to get them clean. I use them for about a month and then I will use that sponge to clean the bathtub with some good old lysol cleaner or get the little nooks and crannies in the floor that I couldn't reach with the mop. Oh, a tip you might find interesting. Those little bathing gloves are great for scrubbing the little nooks and crannies too. When I decide it's time for a new pair I save the old ones for real scrubbing at the corners of the tub and such.

I throw mine in the microwave. The microwave that kills the bacteria. Otherwise you're just spreading around whatever bacteria is growing on it even if you change them frequently.

Sponges contain tons of bacteria, as they are an ideal place for it to live and grow. Instead of replacing them constantly, you can place them in a bowl of water and put it in the microwave for 5 minutes to kill the bacteria. Ring them out afterwards and allow them to air dry. Good as new =]

Hello, I have to say that I do in fact change my sponge on a regular basis. It get changed about every 3 days or when the sponge is falling apart. This is the reason I would like to have a dishwasher. For many reasons. Like the first reason is because I at least know the dishes are clean because when my hubby helps he does not always get the dishes fully cleaned. But it is nice that he wants to help. The other reason is that I won't have to keep buying sponges and dish soap all the time. It would save us some money there. But I do change the sponges because of bacteria and plus because they fall apart fast. Happy Mylotting

I don't use a sponge anymore due to the fact they do collect bacteria. When washing dishes I now us a scrubby. I heard about that awhile ago and made the switch also the scrubby gets the dishes clean much better.
