Would you change your first name if you could?

Last night I was thinking about how some people's names seem to fit who they are as a person. Their name seems to fit with their personality or way of being in the world. However, sometimes there are names that just do not seem to fit the person they were given to. So I was thinking about my own first name (and I'm not gonna tell you mine, nor am I gonna ask you to reveal yours) and I am quite happy with it, and I've also done some research on some of the meanings behind my first name. But, if you could change your first name would you and why? As always your responses are greatly appreciated.... Tag! Your it!

My first name is debora. I like it although I would put an "h" in the end to be deborah and would add my nick Katy. Then it would be deborah katy like I use as nickname everywhere. I think deborah katy is so beautiful. It´s a pitty we can´t change names here.

No actually I wouldn't change it. In some ways, I am rather lucky because although I was born in Europe, my name is also fairly common for someone of my age in Australia. The spelling is slightly different but I can live with that. In fact all 3 of us boys who were born in Europe have "anglicised" names and of couse the brother who was born here has a good old Aussie name. Also it is the name that my parents gave me, the one that they though was best for me and so to change it would take away their choice as parents. I know that I would not be happy if either of my daughters decided they wanted to change their first name, because their mother and I chose that name for them. Call me old fashioned in that regard but unless the parents choose some really weird name, then I think we should respect their choice in the name they gave us at birth.

I answer to many names it seems and these days the most common one is :hey you driver". My partner wonders why she even bothers to put my name on my shirt as nobody takes any notice of it.

I like my name. But it is a common one and I remember at school, there would be three of us sharing the same name. LOL. When I was a kid, I did want to change my name. But now that I've grown up, I like my name the way it is. ^-^

I had a foreign Italian name in America and people always had trouble getting the vowels right. It really bugged me. Grrr. I moved to a new country 15 years ago and changed my name to a local one in order to fit in better. It took a while to adjust to a new name, but now I'm glad I did.

There is nothing really wrong my name but it seems that people can't pronounce it well. I've got a simple name (Roselle) but people would call me with all the variations you could think of... Rochelle, Rachel, Racquel, Russell, Rose and even Rosette. So at times I contemplate of changing my name (for the fun of it) because I just don't get it why they are finding it difficult to pronounce Roselle

All growing up I hated my name, (Brenda) and wanted one of those cute cheer leader type names such as: Wendy, Cindy, Candy, Debbie, Sandy, Susy, etc. etc. but as the years went by, I've gotten use to my name and now I feel it fits me to a T. I finally no longer want to change it!

When I was younger, much younger, I had problems with it as the only Diana around then was Diana Dors The much later another Diana became famous and gave the name a new shine. Sadly she is nolonger around but she certainly left a positive mark. I don't think I could get used toanother one after all these years anyway!

To be honest I would never change my name for the world only because I have a very unique name and is one of a kind from where I am. I will tell you what my name is only because people find the story very interesting on how my name came about. Well my name is September. My grandma named me because my mom got pregnant young and my grandma said that she would forgive my mom if she got to name me if I was a girl and guess what I am a girl...lol. Don't get me wrong I do sit there and think about if I would be any different if my name was different but I am truly happy with the name that was given to me. It is very special knowing that my grandma named me or at least the first name. I have to say I have only known like 2 other people with the name of September but that was in different Countries and I found out about them on a gift registry at walmart. So no I would not change my name, I am very happy with my name. Happy Mylotting

when i was younger i use to literally hate my first name, because it is a very uncommon name. maybe because it was so uncommon i thought it didnt sound good. i even remeber once when my mom took me to the dentist when i was smaller and the dentist asked me my name. i replied by giving him my alias name, because i didnt even like to here my first name. my mom said no tell him your real name, and i did. but since high school my hating of my first name as changed, as a matter of fact i love it. because now i understand the importance of having a unique name that sounds good. now when i tell people my name, most would reply by saying,"thats a really nice name", and i would gladly say thank you. so now i would not change my name for anything

My english doesn't suit me that much and i only have it for 4 years so it isn't mold into me since birth. I thought of the name because i saw it in a book and i liked it but had not thought much about whether it suits me or not. PLus i gave myself that name in a spur of the moment because i wasn't too enthusiastic about picking an english name. Even if i could change it i still don't know what name would suit me and what i'll be comfortable with. I like my chinese name, it suits me just fine and i have it since birth. Also it's not a common name which is all the better . Hah well, i'll just leave my name as it is for now. Your name sounds unique.

I wanted a different name when I was younger too because my name is kind of plain actually it's really just a shortened version of another name. Jenny is my name, not Jennifer but Jenny.lol. I'm ok with it now but it was tough when I wrote my name down and people would change it to Jennifer because they thought it was a nickname. Oh and not to mantion the still constant referrals to that movie Forrest Gump. LOL...I still hear it.I think my name fits me pretty good but I have met people that look like they would have a totally different name. It's hard to remember their names when they don't fit them too.

Can't imagine me with another name. I've been called it all my like, you know. Well, I've been called other things, too, but I wouldn't select any of them. But the connotation the name promotes isn't really all that pleasant. So, if I could change my first name and only my first name it would be Jesus, because my mom used to holler, "Jesus Christ Rhonda at me all the time." Now if I could change my whole name, it would have to be something really spectacular, like Mrs. Bill Gates.
