Water is water my friend. it is unique and is God given to us. Unlike beverages and juices and soft drinks that are man made, they will quench your thirst somehow, but you will go back to water wherein that will content you most.
Just like you, i would also drink water after taking soft drink or coffee or tea. My tongue would suggest to flush water to it because the sweet residue of those drinks are still stuck in my tongue so water cleanses.
How important water is to our life. Imagine a person in the desert wanting water, that even if you give him a diamond, he will choose water instead of that precious stone. I used to remember the story of the Samaritan woman at the well where Jesus spoke about the water of life found in John Chapter 4.

sometimes it seems like water doesnt help my thirst when soda will which makes no sense since soda dehydrates you.. i think it just depends on my mood and my atmosphere around..

I usually just drink water but when I feel like giving myself a little treat then I buy one of those fancy drinks which is really just sugared water with some flavoring. Cheers!!

As far as quenching thirst I don't think any other drink can replace water. All other drinks has flavors and sugar making you even more thirsty after you drink it, and when I'm really thirsty the only thing I reach for is a ice cold bottle of water and down it.
