I could not find a category for this subject so if the admin needs to move it, that is fine. We need an environment board.
Trying to save the environment and save money, too, is a big issue these days. I have been investigating ways to do that, personally, at my own home.
We are looking into getting a wind turbine for our home, as well as solar panels, but both are expensive, so we thought. But now they are making it more and more affordable. We have plenty of sun and wind in our area so both would be a great savings, in the long run, for us, as well as help the environment be more healthy for us.
A new bit of information has come forward on how it is becoming less expensive to purchase and install a wind turbine. Check out this link, http://www.terrapass.com/blog/posts/...r+02%2F04%2F09, and see what they have to say and then give me your input.

I think I would be very careful, it's easy to put up a product that is inferior for a cheaper price and rip you off, so make sure you know what you are doing. The site you gave would not go through. Be careful. But good ideas.

I like the idea of people installing solar panels on there roofs, but in reality unless you put MANY of them up there it will not make that much of a difference.

Actually, this is not true. Some people I know have put up a few panels to take care of some of their electric and water heating. It has made a huge difference in their bills and every little bit counts!!

That's a great idea Janet! I think every move counts and this one is sure to do wonders if executed and popularised well. I couldn't open the link though. Could you please tell us more about it?

The link is broken. However this would save us a lot of electricity bill. There has been a lot of discussion in my country about this subject. At first they said it is not feasible. Then they said that due to our smallness we do not have enough space or location to set up these turbines. However Malta is rather a windy island and we do have wind which is free and almost all year round. So it could give a boast to our economy if we save such money

Here is a link, I hope it works, to several articles, http://www.terrapass.com/search/?cx=001683274026321107939%3A11eju9dusw4&cof=FORID%3A11%3BNB%3A1&ie=UTF-8&q=turbines&sa=Search#1000.
The nice thing about this is that each of us can have one, even if government does not want to do it. Since there is no zoning set up for it yet, anyone can put them in at this point without having to get permission and pay fees. It is so new that it is not in the zoning laws over here.
We have winds of around 65 mph today (it tore up our gazebo a bit, so we could have been generating tons of electricity today!! LOL
We are on a high elevation so we get lots of sun and wind. You do not need a lot of wind for them, either, just light breezes will do.

Sorry nanajanet, but the link doesn't work! You may wish to repaste it under this response.
I think that any effort made to subsidize natural energy generation approaches is an extremely positive step forward. There is a practically unlimited supply of wind and sun and we would all benefit so much from these technologies if they were only within our financial reach. It may cost govenrments a pretty penny at first, but the long term benefits will pay them back a thousand-fold. Good for you for looking into this!
