for once i got a doc that was money considerate! i have no insurance so i went to a take care clinic in walgreens and i knew it was like 59-80 or so to be seen.. dont really have it but i have been sick like since jan 10th and its just not going away.. well after dealing with the lady who was not friendly at all i was surprised when she decided to take a lot of the charges off so that i was only charged 59 dollars!! then she called me prescription into publix even though they have a deal with walgreens since they are located in there but i had forgotten that some antibiotics at publix are FREE!!! so she made sure i got that instead of paying for some!! i couldnt believe my luck!! turns out i have acute sinus infection and ear infection but hopefully this will knock it out!!
today was an expensive day though because i had to take my diabetic cat to the vet which ended up costing me 160 and then i had to get one of my regular meds refilled and my discount card knocked off 120 bucks but still had to pay 140 sigh!! so i was very happy that some one actually helped me save money with out me begging for them to give me something cheap etc..
have you found that doctors are being more considerate now with the harder financial times? i know some docs in the past when i told them straight up i couldnt afford a lot have worked with me to get me cheaper meds but i had to bring it up and it was embarrassing!! this was a relief that she just did it without asking!!
oh and that is why i havent been around much.. i have been trying to get on here to answer peoples replies to me but ugh with my head exploding it hasnt been fun

I am glad you found a decent Dr. We have had some pretty good experience with Drs lately.
I got some help a few weeks ago from the take care clinic lady at Walgreens a few weeks ago when I was looking for some sinus meds. She was walking around looking for people who needed help, it was free, what she recommend did help.
If I can't afford meds, I always speak up. I find that Drs are pretty good about saying if something isn't available in generic though.
I know your pain about the Vet. I brought Bryans cat there yesterday, dropped $191 for 3 blood tests and the visit. Have to go back Tuesday for another round of tests that will probably cost $150! I had to cancel my trip to visit Bryan to pay for all this
since we haven't been able to file taxes yet (waiting on access to his W2 from the military).

We have looked into them and it only really pays for his cat since he gets his teeth cleaned every year. If our birds every had an emergency it would pay for that as well but it costs a fortune to cover 5 birds lol

Well, it seems that the world does have a silver lining amidst it dark gloom and doom.
It is good that you are able to get cheap med to cure your ailments.
So, how are you feeling now?
$160 for a visit to the vet?
Man, you sure are generous when it comes to your pets. Why not give up the cat then? It will help reduce your expenses if money is so tight.

well i cant have kids so the pets are as close as i can get to having them.. the cat cant help he got diabetes.. god knows i have been a burden money wise with my medical issues so i cant give up my cat because of that same reason.. hopefully the vet visit will last awhile since he doesnt need to go back for a few weeks to get rechecked..
i was feeling great monday and got a ton of stuff done then i feel sick all over again so i think i screwed myself by doing too much and so now im trying to do nothing and just take the meds and hope for the best..

I am so happy for you hon, and yes it was worth it to take care of yourself.
well being on disability and in canada it doesn't cost me anything. Some doctors are nice here and some are just plain jerks.

Funny how people aren't always what they seem. She sounded very nice to me. But I just hate the US medical system that forces you to view your health in the same way as you might a new car. "Do I need it and can I afford it"! For the first time ever I watched Gordon Ramsey's show from the US. He was helping an Italian restaurant owner. This guy has diabetes but can't afford health insurance. That's just mad!

it was like her actions were nice but she was cold in attitude.. maybe she was just tired or shy or something.. no matter what she really helped!

Good to see you are taking care of your sinuses, it is very important as this is not an infection you can ignore too long, it can go into your brain. I have many allergies, and can feel when my sinuses are not good. Invest in a nettie pot and it will keep your sinuses clear.
I am lucky when my husband retired he got healthcare but some people are not so lucky. In the past when we did not have prescription coverage our doctor used to give us samples. I do think they look of it as preventive, keep your costs low so things can be taken care of and not lead to something very serious and exremely expensive.

i was reading the print out of info on sinus infections and it said that asthma makes your chances of getting them go up.. i had never heard of that before!! i figured i have bad sinuses and horrible allergies anyways but never figured my lungs were the issue!!
i usually get 1-2 a year since i got on flonase but i dont know if its because they switched me to generic or what but i have been getting them like 4 plus times a year sigh!

I am happy to hear this good news. I am in the same situation you are in. But I had to find these things out myself. I really didn't get much help. However the office manager at the doctor's office I go to was sympathetic but not much help. With the doctor's office visit, I didn't get a discount but she agreed to put me on a payment plan. And she did try to find me some sample meds in the office. I am on prescription medication that I take daily and I had to do a little researching on my own to find ways to be able to afford this medication. What I found I did go back to the doctors office and share that information with the office manager so that she will be able to help someone else in my situation. I lost my job December 12, 2008. I don't have any health benefits either.

Thats lucky of you.. Do take care of your health, health expenses are always expensive.. Rather to prevent illness from coming, then to cure it.. Cheaper that way too, i guess.. =D
