I usually consumed 2 cups of rice for the whole day. I have to limit or I would really gain a lot of weight. I just can't live without eating rice. It has been a part of my meal my whole life.

One thing you might consider, instead of giving up rice if you love it so much, is to switch to a healthier type of rice like brown rice. White rice is not really very healthy for you. One serving of rice is 1/3 cup so, you are actually having 6 starch servings per day. If you are finding that you are gaining weight, this may be why. Wild rice is also very good. If you are looking for more information on food servings, etc., a great place to start is http://mypyramid.gov Here is an article on white rice v. brown rice: http://www.greenlivingtips.com/articles/94/1/Brown-rice-vs-white-rice.html

That's a great suggestion and brown rice was my first thought too. It's whole grain so it is full of fibre and you feel full while eating less. Definitely a great choice.

hi my dear friend, i am a great rice loveer and i can eat rice daily. inifact i use to eat it daily but because i have gained lot of weight , i am avoidiing it now aadays. but i then too cook them daily. my hubby loves to have it . he loves fried rice with different vegges and all that stuff, sometimes he add cooked chicken in cooked rice and loves to eat that also. i can eat it in all my meals. daily i make one cup and we are four people to eat. so one fourth of a cup in everyone's share, approximately.

I'm not sure to be honest, maybe 2 cups or more, I don't use cup to measure it, so I'm not really sure. But I only eat rice every other and replace it with noodles or sandwich. I'm like you, rice is also been part of my meal since when I was a child.

I think two cups of rice for the day is okey for me since i am not working much and i am not consuming a lot of energy. But when i am working heavily, my body would require more than that. Actually i don't measure nowadays how many cups of rice we eat. Me and hubby finish what i always cook in the cooker. And we share to one plate while eating and guess what, using fingers to eat also. It is much exciting to eat when you are with your loved one and when you enjoy the food to go along with the hot rice you cook.
