Who are your favorite Jazz Artists?

I'm writing a story where the main character is very into jazz music. Not so much jazz fusion but the smooth vocal jazz and some instrumental. But, I have only a glancing knowledge of jazz music and especially jazz music played in jazz clubs so first off, what is your favorite jazz artist or song?

I love this new artist from Philly, her name is Melody Gardot. Her voice is so soft and soothing. It is very distinct like Billie Holiday, but not as raspy as hers.
