Depriving yourself of the foods you love is no way to lose weight!

What you need to do is to eat smaller portions of those foods, choose a few each day (don't eat everything all at once) and enjoy what you are eating. What I am trying to say is no one wants to eat carrot sticks and melba toast all day. You need to find the right balance and eat a variety of foods each day so that you don't become bored with your diet. I personally love chocolate, just a little too much. It is not a good idea for me to buy a "family size" bag of M & Ms or anything along those lines, but I can find a smaller portion near the check out - like a 100 calorie pack chocolate bar. Sugar free is another great choice when it comes to chocolate, but watch the fat content. Even though something is sugar free, sometimes it is a trade off for higher fat content. Also, don't eat too much of something that is sugar free or sweetened with "sugar alcohols" because it will cause you to spend a lot of time in the bathroom. You need to make sure you eat a good breakfast with some protein included like eggs or egg whites. Your metabolism will need a jump start in the morning since you haven't eaten all night. Slicing up vegetables and fruits so that they are handy for snacks is also a great way to combat the "munchies". Make a low cal dip with light sour cream and low sodium soup mix. Don't starve yourself all day and then eat everything in sight at the end of the day. This method of self deprivation will have you eating all the wrong foods!

Bottom line is that you have to take in fewer calories and burn off more. But don't do it by totally eliminating foods that you like and replacing them with foods you don't like. You will hate and therefore it won't work!

I don't like depravation. There are too many foods that I like. But I find if I am going to have any discipline I have to stay away from things that I really like, and the pretty much means chocolate. I can pretty much resist anything else if I have to, but I really desire chocolate, unfortunatey if I eat a little chocolate though I want more. So if I am dieting strictly I pretty much have to avoid it because once I feed my addiction I just want more. If I am just feeling like I need to cut back and eat healthy, I like things like the Southbeach chocolate snack bars which gives me that chocolate taste with less fat and calories and provides me with some additional fiber.

hello daneg that is what that i do is eat smaller portions of something that i am just dying to eat like that ice cream that keeps calling my name or that brownie in the kitchen, or that piece of chocolate cake. just like at my son's birthday party over this past weekend, i did as a matter of fact eat a small piece of the birthday cake and some ice cream. and i know what you mean about the sugar thing. i could sit down with a whole bag of double stuffed oreo's and a half gallon of milk and munch down, but i will not allow myself to ever do that. lol and i try not to eat anything right before that i go to bed at night time either, but if i do, i will eat something like popcorn, or some cereal or something like that. and i enjoy eating any kind of a dip that you can throw my way. i always have to get a very small container of the dip when that i do eat any of it either, because if i don't just pass me all of the dip and the bag of potato chips. lol take care and have a beautiful evening.
