Are you embarrased to shop at thrift stores? I know alot of people who will not step foot inside a thrift store because they think someone will see them. Are any of you this way? I think with the economy being like it is, its a great place to shop. Its basically having hand me downs and i'm sure the ones that don't like thrift stores have definately had some hand me downs. Happy mylotting.

heck no! You can find some great things in a thrift store. My best friend found her wedding dress, and my maid of honor dresses at a thrift store, and they were like new. We didn't have to pay over 100 dollars for our dresses, and we took them back for the store to resell after her wedding. I have been able to turn things that may not have been the greatest things and turned them into something sexy and beautiful. I love thrift shops.

I shop at thrift stores and good will. It doesn't bother me. I just know i can't afford new nice clothes. Even walmarts clothes are pricy. The only way i could do that is if i bought one peice per month. Then maybe after a couple of years i would have a complete wardrobe. LOL!

Isn't that the truth... And walmarts clothes are so cheap made, it costs about 50 cents or so for the pants to be made and they sell them for 20... I don't know why they have to be so high and their motto is suppose to be low prices... lol

I love thrift stores. I always feel optimistic and excited when entering a thrift store when I go back to the U.K. I go to the stores that sells for charity - cancer and Oxfam and any others around. I collect antique or different plates and use them as wall decorations and have found wonderful bargains in thrift stores as people will give the odd plates, cups or saucers to charity. I really don't care if anyone sees me at all. And if I was really on hard times I would prefer to have my children wear used but good clothes rather than go without. There should be no false pride where children are concerned. My sister brought out a dress for my granddaughter's Baptism that was brand new and given to a charity shop in her area of London. We were happy to have it! I think though that there second hand clothing should be in good condition and those who donate should donate only clean clothes. I'm going to NC next week and I plan to go to a few thrift stores before hitting the Mall! one lOve

I myself have always liked thift stores. Where I live we only have a Goodwill now. We use to have a Salvation Amry which I liked better myself. I do find that I buy online now for my clothes more than going to goodwill. I like goodwill it is just sometimes I cannot find clothes that I like. On good days I found clothes with tags on them still so not all the clothes at a place like goodwill are used. Actually I have thought about opening my own thrift store in the city that I live in but I just have never done it. Now might be a good time to start one huh? Nice discussion and happy mylotting as well.

I actually did open a resale store where I live and needless to say it did not work out very well, I had customers but not a whole lot. Mostly because we have thrift stores, goodwill, salvation army and the rescue mission that has been around so much longer and people prefer to go there. But I do love thrift stores, sometimes you can find some really interesting things

I'm not embarrassed at all to shop the thrift stores. We don't have many near us though so I typically shop online. I'm also a vintage person, so what I purchase typically can't be found at regular stores anyhow.

I can't see why anybody would be embarassed. unless they're really shallow, and not too bright.

it used to be the cool thing to do, shop at a thrift store, we've all done it, only the cool kids do it, etc etc. i think people are a lil too caught up in the names of the places they shop, its just clothes. somethings i cannot/will not buy at a thrift store though, any lingeri/socks/shoes, etc tho have to be brand new for me.

Hi blueeyedmommy03 - I used to when I was younger, be embarrassed to go into any thrift store. Not anymore... I don't care who sees me & if someone I know does see me than they are probably there too! LoL! Either way, if someone looks down on me because I occasionally or even if I frequently went to thrift stores, like Goodwill or the Salvation Army than they do not matter to me & are not my friend anyway. I think just about everyone is looking for extra ways to save nowadays anyway. There is a Goodwill near my apartment that has some great deals and we've gotten many things there, like furniture & movies, clothes, etc. Can't beat the prices and some of the things are practically brand new! Are you kidding? Thrift stores are cheap, and you can find some very nice quality stuff there to use of wear. I don't care who see me go into a thrift store. If someone I know sees me, I'll ask them to come in with me and join me. I just started shopping at thrift stores a year ago when my baby was born, but my parents and grandparents been shopping there like forever, and I don't blame them. They aren't embarrassed either. I mostly buy clothes from the thrift store that are very cheap and fairly nice looking. I bought most of my Church clothes there, and they are off the chain cute.

i like going to thrift stores and i dont care what others think. most of the time, i would spend hours there trying to find some nice deals especially those brand name clothes with price tags still on. But most esp i love shopping for books. imagine, almost new paperbacks and even those with hard covers, just for a quarter! oh and once, i found a nine west & an estee lauder purse in very good condition both for less that $5.... finding great deals in thrift stores is a challenge. it is also a practical way to spend.

I would never be embarrased to shop at a thrift store. Saving some money is key these days. I once was at a thrift and seen my boss here, who earns 3 times more than I do. Everyone has their ways of saving money.

I love to shop at thrift stores! I find great bargains all the time. Nearly every piece of clothing I wear is from a thrift store. I pick other things up as well, like sheets and curtains.
