Noodle talk: Maggi or Lucky Me or Nissin? LOL

Philippines

i am a certified Maggi Noodles Kid - still am now though it saddens me that there are only few production of maggi noodles in groceries. and most "sari sari" stores now are selling lucky me. i also like maggi's instant spaghetti. i have nothing against lucky me, in fact, i do buy their products whenever i ran out of stock (which is Maggi noodles). because it's good to have noodles whenever it rains. it's a nice feeling to be able to sip a hot soup. i remember before, when i was a kid - the disney aladdin movie became so popular and a stickers were freebies in every purchase of Maggi noodles. i would always pester my aunt in buying dozens of them so that i could collect them all. =)) good, good memories. i also love the nissin - their instant noodles whenever at work. because all i have to do is pour an amount of hot water and voila - instant noodles. =) i like their "pancit canton" too. especially the original and seafood taste.

Hello totallyundecided! You are again totallyundecided about the noodles. But you really have your point there. I am also a maggie kid too. I remember about that aladdin thing because my siblings always fought about the stickers that I even thought if only I have siblings, all the stickers would be mine. But now, I buy lucky me especially when maggie started to increase their price. Now I noticed that maggie and luckyme have almost the same price, I started to buy maggie noodles again.

ahahahaha!! and you quoted my nick very well. during the aladding time, we don't fight for teh stickers. lol. instead, we barter. at least in a peaceful way at the beginning - with my cousins - but as soon as we started arguing - there. the start throwing of pillows at each other and whatever karate moves we learn. then the crying follows. ahahaha! oh, well. those were the days. =)

Hi TUD! Good that you too are an addicted maggi consumer. So also I am. But presently I have set up a check to it for there was a report that consuming more maggi noodle means inviting more of your stomach disorder. And this was not a news report but a study report. Now tell me what shall I do. My son too is mad after maggi noodles. Just tell me idf or not I should ho along this maggi thing.

My wife and I prefer both canton and noodle soup. For the noodle soup, we like nissin and lucky me. Though my wife likes nissin more, I prefer lucky more when it comes to soup. For canton, we both love magnolia, the brand, lately. It just captures our taste buds.

magnolia. are they new now sir? i am not familiar with it yet but i'll try to hunt them next week in the groceries. =)

my mom does not eat noodles too. lol. i don't know if you have the same reasons but she's very conscious with her health and as much as she can, she will not eat food with preservatives. unlike me. lol

Here in India we get only maggi and nissin noodles.I love the taste of maggi noodles when i was small.I even sometimes eat it way and like the taste. Now also i can remember the taste of maggi noodles when writing this discussion. When i was small they used to give fish stickers free with maggi noodles.I would eat the noodles looking at the fish and feel happy.
• Philippines
18 Feb 09
yes, i do agree with you. eating maggi noodles makes me reminisce my childhood and i have always been a fan of maggi - not just the taste though but their freebies as well. thanks for your time vicky. =) i really appreciate it. =)

Sad to say but in my opinion Lucky me noodles is more popular because when I had a sari sari store I can sell 10 boxes of lucky me against 2 boxes of maggie noodles and often times it expires in my shelf. Can't clarify to you why but that is what I have observed.Although The taste is just the same for me I'm still inclined to cook lucky me.
• Philippines
21 Feb 09
yeah, i really do agree with you because out of 10 sari sari stores here in our area, none is selling maggi noodles. and when i go to the groceries, there are only a few customers who would go for maggin noodles and A LOT for lucky. did they have a controversy or something? i am lazy to find out though and i missed maggi's commercials.

I like lucky me since they are more popular nowadays. The nissin noodles is made by japanese so they are a little more expensive but they do really ave grea taste. Even now that were in the states my kids would always request for some noodles for me to make may it be with soup or the pancit canton. They still did not forget the yummy taste.;-)

yes. "iba talaga ang lasang Pinoy". i remember my aunt, who works as a nurse in KSA - whenever a colleague of hers goes home, she told us during her visit that she would ask her friend to buy her some pancit canton since the taste of the noodles there in KSA is different from ours. and whenever she feels homesick, all she has to do is eat someof those noodles. =) quite funny though but i know how she feels.

I used tolove all these noodles when I was still in the Philippines. Now that I am residing here in Sydney all I have here is Nissin's Ramen imported from Korea. Ah yes, they also have the Maggi here but it is very bland in taste. So now I am loving Nissin's Ramen especially their Japanese Flavour Tonkotsu and Shoyu. You can find these noodles there too in Manila but 1 packet costs Php35!

i see. there's two of you who recommended that nissin ramen. promise, i'll let you know soon the evaluation of that noodles. lol hope everything is well there in sydney. are you near of the place during that wildfire incident?

i do like noodles its a fast and easy meal. its good for a hurry meal. i like lucky me better i like the taste of their chicken and beef flavor, its my mom brand every time she bought noodles in the grocery store, so i guess i get use to it. happy mylotting.

Oh I think most Indians like me would vote for Maggi… it revolutionized the concept of home cooked fast food in India, you know. What could be better than having piping hot soup noodles within 5 minutes in the comfort of your home at an extremely affordable price? However, I feel Maggi should have evolved more and introduced instant noodles which do not require any boiling. For this I am a fan of Wai Wai noodles which I can have at office by just pouring some hot water on it and soaking it for a few minutes. Cant do that with Maggi.
• Philippines
17 Feb 09
yes, point taken. maggi has failed to explore more and be competitive. i think our nissin here is the version of your Wai Wai there in India. because nssin provides cup noddles (though they don't provide spoon or fork) but it's very convenient most especially to those who are in a tight budget, =) thank you for sahring sudip. =)

We usually eat lucky me noodles since we have our own sari-sari store. Most of the noodles we're selling is Lucky Me, but we really like Nissin especially Nissin Cup Noodles. Its so yummy!
• Philippines
17 Feb 09
i guess you agree too that lucky me is really the popular one. =) whenever i go to the grocery, i too buy some cup noodles because it can be used as a "baon" and it's very handy. very yummy indeed!

Hi there titallyundecided! Before when I was a kid I loved Maggi very much, the chicken flavor..yummy. I'd love to watch every commercial they had before. But now it seems Maggi was forgotten, I don't know..maybe because there's a lot of brand noodles now. But now, I prefer and purchase Nissin. I like the seafood flavor of Nissin, very much! I love the ingredients, not too much salt on it. In Lucky Me...Oh I love the pancit canton. Sorry for being so biased my friend.. Well, I just loved noodles!
• Philippines
17 Feb 09
not biased at all. that's why they are all made for us people to choose and i know we always have different preferences. =)) and yes, i agree that with nissin, they put much salt on it compare to lucky me.

hello! Years back, I am a fan of Nissin. I like their noodles. One beef nissin with egg will be a good breakfast for me. But nowadays, I buy Lucky me Beef. I like it more than Maggi. (sorry. hehe) But same to you, I like maggi's spaghetti. We would always buy 4 pieces of that when we do the grocery. have fun

Maggi we have it about 5 days a weak as our break fast now i will go and have my Maggi again as i got water in to my mouth.

Guess what, i like Lucky Me Noodles because of their Pancit Canton chili flavor. I do like chili spicy recipes. And no matter what the flavor is, chicken or beef, as long as i can savor the taste of chili into it, i am going to buy it. I also like Maggi noodles as a soup noodle. But i like Nissins Ramen better specially the ready to eat, just put hot water when I'm in the office because we have hot and cold water dispenser there. If i don't have time to eat for breakfast, what i will do is to buy a nissins ramen or any ready to eat, just put hot water noodles so that i can eat at the canteen or in the office.

i haven't tasted the nissin Ramen yet but since i have read good recommendations from you, maybe in my next budget, i'll include that in my list. i also got curious with the jjampong (did i spell it right?). it's also spicy right? maybe i'll indulge myself too. and yes, i do agree with you about their spicy pancit canton - of lucky me - i like all their flavors. =) now i should really make that midnight snack. this discussion is making me hungry. lol
