I am the mother of 3 children, all my children are adults now. I do have grand children. I have a set of twin boys and 2 grand girls.
When my 3 children were babies all of them used pacifiers. I have read that they aren't good for children but mines had them anyway. If they lost their binky they would have a fit and I would always keep a spare. It took them awhile to get used to the new one but they did.
Did you give your baby a pacifier?

Yes, thank goodness for the pacifiers!!! my son didnt really like his or get use to it until about 4 months, but he would sleep with it, but didnt want it any other time, and I broke him of the habit when he turned 3... and he stopped just like that...it was just a sleeping thing for him...
my daughter is 1, and she only likes one kind of pacifier, and again it isnt an all day thing but when she gets sleepy she wants it... and I am more than willing to give it to her, they make life so much easier!! LOL

One used a pacifier, the other sucked his thumb. You cannot lose a thumb. The pacifier only lasted about three months. If I had to put up with fussing when we got a new one, then I might as well get used to it and get rid of it altogether.

All of my three used a pacifier also. The girls got off of it really easy and it was hard for my son to want to give it up. One day we were going somewhere and he was pulling on it and it went flying out the car window. We got him a new one and he wouldn't have anything to do with it. I think my son used the pacifier more than the girls did is because he had colic really bad. My grandchildren didn't really take the it much.

I have given both of my children pacifiers (binkys). My son didn't have any teeth until he was 16 months old, so it soothed the teething pain for him. My daughter really didn't want one when she was first born, but due to being born early and her stomach not being fully grown yet, she had major acid reflux and with her sucking on it, it keeps the acid from building up in her throat and cuasing her to vomit. I know they say they aren't good for them, but there are alot of things that isn't good for the kids that my momma gave me and I made it threw life good, lol..
Both of my kids like to hide theirs and then they would have a melt down, because they forgot where they put it, and then you pull out the new one and all the sudden the old one reappears funny how they can remember where they put it after getting that new one lol...

Both my girls had binkys. My oldest didnt give it up until she was 14 months old. My youngest daughter I was able to get rid of hers when she was 12 months. I am pregnant again and I'm due in July and I plan on using a pacifier with her as well. They say they are bad for a childs teeth and I do believe it. I have seen 3 and 4 year old with them still (discusting!) and their teeth are slanted outward. I see nothing wrong with the binky and have never seen any teeth problem in children that are able to get rid of them before 2 years.

Hi Chevee,
I don't have any children but when my sister's twin were babies she did give them pacifiers but only when they go to bed and when she give them their binky, they knew it was their bed time, it had a tiny bottle attached and she used to put some juice in it. Hugs.

My Mom and I tried to give my boys pacifiers when they were babies, but they just wouldn't take them. As a matter of fact, my boys would literally spit them out and across the room! My daughter wouldn't take one either, but, unfortunately, she was a thumb-sucker. I wish she would have preferred the pacifier because there are still tiems when I find her sucking her thumb while she is sleeping.

I used pacifiers when my kids were little as well. I know that they say that they are not good for the teeth. I think that they could be if people used them for a long time and on a regular basis. My kids only had them for maybe the first year and a half of their lives. But I have seen kids as old as 4 or 5 using them. That is a little much. But if you start to take it away from them when they start to get teeth then it would be okay.

Hi I have a 3 year old girl that never touched the pacifier. I know that they say that pacifiers are not good for babies but my baby boy had to have one. He was tube fed for a little over a month and when a baby is tube fed they have to have a pacifier becuase it helps promote the sucking and swalling in infants. Ever since then I cannot get him away from it. That was when he was 3 month old he is now 17months! And he has a pacifier in every corner of this house! I cant find one I say to him wheres your num and he finds one! If you take it out of his mouth to take a pic he screams num num! Hopefully I get him off it soon. Wouldnt want him going to school with a pacifier in his mouth!

Hi, we call pacifiers "dummies" here in the UK. My daughter had them and she was obsessed with them, she would have one in her mouth and one in her hand. We spent 5 weeks in Thailand and we brought four with us as they don't sell them in the shops out there and we were lucky to have one left on the plane home. My son wouldn't take a dummy/pacifier and there is nothing I can do when he cries. It has been a hard two years without a dummy!
