Does your intuition err ?

Intuition is a wonder. It forms a big part of human decision making and feeds our expertise, creativity, love and spirituality. However in various realms, whether it be business, sports or our personal lives, science and everyday life tends to make us realise that there are flaws in following our intuitions. Our gut feelings have sometimes averted and sometimes enabled our misfortunes. The constant quandry between following our intuition or going by our logic and reasoning continues. How much do you rely on your intuition and have you faced situations wherein your intuition has erred ? "Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."

I think I am quite bad with it! Time and again I have found myself into untoward situations in life that had forced me to come to this conclusion that I am a as blunt as it gets and even when the most obvious thing is laid in front of me, I would bypass it to see something else! My Mom is an intuitive person. She can foresee things. Nothing magical about it. She is just more experienced and knows the intricacies of the world better. She has learned through experiences. She would know when something would work and when it would not! Its like that wiccan stories that would outcast or kill some extremely intuitive person as witch! We have outlived that era or have we actually! That's a different matter of speculation but that doesn't make me more logical.

It's our own experiences in life which make us follow our intuition or not Mimpi, just as in you Mother's case. Nothing wrong in following it or not following it. At the same time there is research being done on this and more than often people fail while following thier intuition. How credible this information, it's difficult to tell. Or maybe it's the witch burners trying to disprove the concept of intuition.

Superiority complex comes easily to many who think they are intuitive. But that is wrong for it causes thier downfall as well. In my own experiences i have had my intuition work both ways as well. But the problem comes up when there is a clash between the intuition and logic. I've driven myself nuts on times like that.

Whatever it may be, some people are edge over others in foretelling things. May be they are uncannily logical or sensible. But the existence of Wise men and women are not far from history. KHana, an extremely wise lady who belonged to some centuries back had come up with some unbelievable logical explanations of common things. Obviously she was intuitive above average. The fact that intuition could be wrong doesn't surprise me either. We love to think that we are intuitive, it gives us superiority complacency. But are we really!

I liked the quote at the end of your post. I sounds very meaningful. I do not rely much on my intuition because I know it may come out true or otherwise. It seems to me that my intuition is not so strong. I mean I do not have those wonderful powers of making an intuition in me. I rely on logical thinking and my logical thinking takes me into the right direction, baring some exceptions.

I liked that quote as well. Every one in my opinion has the capability of intuition. It's just that it's more prevalent in some than others. Our experiences also makes us sway towards logical thinking. Thanks for the response.

My intuitions have never let me down.I have many experiences of poured with so many advices on my hard times. My intuition always tell me not to lose my standard and wait for the one that suits my style and status.I never let myself stoop even a little bit.And at last I always proved to be right and rewarded with the right thing I deserve.Well Alok this is the truth though it may have a tinge of arrogance which is purely not intentional. It's not arrogance at all Bala. It's your self confidence and your beliefs. And it's great to know that you have followed your intuition and it has never let you down. Thanks

It has most definitely erred on a number of occasions, but the positive side of this is that it's arguably helped me to fine tune it even further as a result! I rely on my own gut feel quite heavily actually and after a number of very disappointing "reads" a few years ago, I feel my intuition is far more sharp today and continues to get stronger. Intuition is an integral part of our physiology and can be traced back to our evolutionary roots with the "fight or flight" mentality that animals exercise even today. I try to use my intuition or gut feelings with pretty much most decisions I make these days. In my experience, there is an extremely fine line between logical and illogical and so many unexpected circumstances can occur when we least expect them to. Intuition has the potential to ensure we soften or avoid the fall so to speak. It may be speculation in a sense, but foresight can help us acknowledge and prepare for not so satisfactory outcomes! (My intuition tells me that you'll reply to these comments! )

You know for sure i'd reply. So that's not your intuition. If you would get a feel that i'd reply within 15 minutes the i'd say your intuition was working.. I agree on the efine line bit especially James, and that's where the quandry lies. We know that once bitten twice shy applies to most scenarios, but the relaince on our intuition always keeps us going. And as much as science tries to play down it's importance and make us try to keep our thinking in the logical manner,we will still depend oon the intuition, cause it's only with our experiences in this regard that we actually decide. Thanks James.

Hi there, I definitely have a strong belief in intuition and try to apply it in my everyday life. There's something that we don't understand about ourselves and that is our body! There's just something about our body that always let's us know when something is not right. Whether you call this gut feeling, stomach cramps, I guess it all relates to the same thing. Nothing is perfect I guess but I think the majority of the time our intuition is correct. If you are interested in meditation as well then you can really empower this gift. Andrew

ow much we rely on our Intuition is a based on our own experiences. I have read about meditation increasing the powers of intuition. Thanks Andrew.

Intuition, strong beliefs and applying it to everyday life. You know Andrew I totally agree with what you said here and I feel that you have just hit upon something very interesting. You know we all have our regular five senses but then so many people believe that some of us have the sixth sense, which is ESP, or being cognizant and aware that there is something more to us than just what is seen. Recently I started meditating and let me tell you something, it is one of the best feelings in the world. It's almost better than a massage......I absolutely love it and I feel like it take me to a whole other place/level!.....

Intuition, this is one of my favorite subjects. Thanks for posting it. I"m glad that someone thought of it. There have been many times when I have followed my intuition and it turned out to be right on the money. Other times when I've tried to follow it and have been way off. Here lately I've been thinking, how strange would it be for a person to be stuck between their dream state and their awake state/real life. I know it's kind of weird but in the age that we are living in, I think that almost anything is possible. Would make for a really good science fiction novel I would be willing to bet.

Hi, Yes a lot of times. Specially during cricket matches. But as the saying goes " To err is human... to forgive is divine". As a human we will make mistakes as long as we live. But u know iam lucky enough to discuss the important discussions with a lot of matured person iam surrounded with. So i think i dont go just by intution when there is something very important. As a businessman i have to pick up things really fast. I do make mistakes but as the saying goes " Strong people make as many mistakes as weak people. Difference is that strong people admit their mistakes, laugh at them, learn from them. That is how they become strong." Cheers, Tutul

We do tend to diregard our inuitions when they go wrong and at times we listen to them, reason and analyse them and then proceed. We mst learn from our mistakes though. Thanks Tutul.

Intuition. I hope that everyone will try to intuitively focus on the little girl that has been missing for over a few weeks now. Her name is Heighley and I believe that if we all just kind of continue to send up prayers on her behalf somehow something will breakthrough. We all are hoping and wishing that whoever is holding her will set her free! My heart goes out to the parents and family of children that have been abducted! May God watch over you Heighley and bring you home soon.

I do try to rely on my intutions. But yes I have erred many a times. But still there is always a tussle between intution and logic. "Why repeat old errors if there are so many new errors to commit" So I keep following my intutions and keep erring with new errors.....

The tussle is always there, but we still tend to rely on our intuition inspite of the number of times that the intuition has made us do things against logic and reasoning. Thanks

My intuition has both failed and saved me from misfortunes. But what has been decided has been done so there is nothing one can do about it except work on the consequences that such an intuition has brought.
