I have posted a question earlier about smoking and saving money buy not purchasing them. I was also wandering now what the smokers think about the smoke that other people are inhaling. Do you really consider other people when you are smoking and do you believe that the passive smoking is harmful?

Well, I am not the best person to answer because you are questioning to the smoker not the inhalers and I am the one who gets passive smoke. Well, I would say that passive smoking is as harmful as direct smoking because the body doesn't know that you are taking the smoke by cigerate or by only smoke. It know only the fact that dirt particles and smoke particles are coming into the body and hence it is as harmful as direct smoking.

You have really given a great answer here. I think there might be some that don't agree there is a such thing as passive smoking. I do believe there is a such thing or I would not be coughing or finding it hard to breathe when I am near a smoker. The body is taken in foreign smoke and matter into the body and lungs and that can't be healthy at all especially around little children.

And what about pregnant ladies. They do get affected by this more than anyone else, the child who hasn't yet been in this world properly, gets smoke from her mother, who inhales it from others. I hate them and I really appriciate the Govt that they banned smoking in public places!

I really do believe it has a direct affect on your health winterose. I think that many smokers don't realize they are a hazard to the non smokers' health. Your son should probably be careful about smoking around you. You have enough health problems already to deal with. You are a good person and I think that you really deserve a better support system.

According to what I've heard and read, second hand smoke is harmful to others. If your husband smokes outside of your presence, you're probably okay. My brother-in-law has COPD and has never smoked. So there's no guarantee that you won't have problems as a non-smoker or as a recipient of second-hand smoke. As for lack of consideration, I don't know. I'm a smoker and I was inconsiderate of my daughter when she was growing up. I didn't even know about the effects of second-hand smoke then, but that's beside the point. All I cared about was getting my nicotine fix.

I have been receiving responses where members here seem to be in joint agreement about the dangers of passive smoking. I never had a habit of smoking but I know that I don't like to be around it. It makes your surroundings smell and also other diseases can happen and when other people breathe it in it is just dangerous.

I am a smoker and to me any smoking is not good for you. I guess you might want to know is it ok I mean whatever you do is your business, even being a smoker I know any of it is bad. I guess if you smoked like a cig a week I could not seeing it hurt you, but than on the other hand some people get lung cancer without ever being a smoker so I guess it could still be bad. SO in the end I would say any smoking is bad. Happy mylotting

It is true that any kind of smoking is bad whether it be second hand or not. Others get adversely affected by it. I know it is a habit that is probably very hard to quit. You could just live a lot longer and save more money if you did quit. I do thank you for your honest response friend. Take care.

I am no longer a smoker but I used to be for quite some time. One of the reasons I quit was that I just purchased my first home and needed all the money to put into renovating the house. The other reason was I was tired of smelling the way I did after I smoked. When I had my son they told us at the hospital that it was best to stay away from people who smoked whether they actively smoke in front of you or not. The smell still lingers on their clothing. When I was a smoker I was aware of this and tried to respect others' wishes. Now that I am a mom, I'm even more aware especially when we're out and about because more and more smokers are being forced outside to smoke. I do think it's harmful and I do try to stay away from the smokers.

Absolutely..actually it seems it is even more deadly than inhaling

Thank you for you response. I think it does make sense that it could be worse than inhaling. The smokers with the addiction are inhaling but the ones with the clear lungs aren't addicted and we breathe it in like bad pollution. Definitely a dangerous thing in our society. I don't see a lot of people quitting any time soon though.

Yes, we hava a law now that you cannot smoke in cars if your kids are present. Even pets die premature deaths as they smoke too. Your plants also suffer.

I believe it is harmful. Just like a car belching pollution on the street can make you cough and even sick to your stomach, second hand smoke can hurt people and especially children and animals. That's why I never smoked around my children and I don't smoke in my house now because of my dogs.

Thank you for replying. I don't like the smoking myself and have been in a crowd or just sitting next to people that blow smoke and I can not breathe good because I am coughing. That second hand smoke I believe is harming the healthy lungs of others and there is just no excuse for it. You are right it does cause a lot of diseases. More than I can count!
