Letter to my city council.

Have you ever written to your city representatives about something? Did you know you can? I have before and I'm planning to write another one about adding a Junior College in our neighborhood. Aside from voting, this is another way to have your voice heard... it's a different matter if they will do anything about your concerns but you have a choice to be heard. What would you write about if you wrote to them?

I am a member of our cit council, and I enjoy receiving letters from the residents in my city - that way I know how they want me to represent them.

Hey that's great that you are a member. How difficult would it be to build a college in a town, would you know? I'm planning to request this to my council.

It depends on what town or city you live in, as well as what state. It has been very difficult in our area to attract a community college due to budget restraints. It might be helpful to look towards the business community as well.

Yeah, that is my guess, that it depends on the budget.. but I will still try. Thanks.

As a county employee, I avoid writing directly to representatives that local. I came very close recently due to an issue with the transit department, but fortunately someone withing my own department greased the wheels enough to fix my problem before it came to that. I do contact my congressman and senators both at the state and federal level though when I have an issue, but that's usually on legislative issues rather than anything that affects me too closely.

Because it's an easy way to get yourself blacklisted if you start telling those directly above you how to do their job.

Why do you avoid it?

We cannot only write, we can go to public meeting and also get the local press behind us if we want something. Many people don't realize how powerful we can be in this country. My husband got an emergency room added to our local hospital by doing these things. This was many years ago but he is still active and has many other improvements under his belt

That is really good! I'm glad to hear that some of us are aware and active and good for your husband for making an important change. Thank him for me, haha.
