i love eating with bare hands as long as i'm in the appropriate place. i don't eat with my bare hands in places where it isn't acceptable or in places i shouldn't be doing it.

I've been to restaurants that allow us to eat with bare hands but I mostly use utensils since we were taught to use them all the time in our family. Plus I'm more comfy using utensils. It's ok to eat using your hands but healthwise, it is advisable to wash them well before eating... ^_^

That's quite true for health reasons. Did it ever happen that you asked for a utensil in a restaurant that doesn't give utensils since you're more used to eating using utensils?

Hello! We Indians usually eat our foods with bare hand be it at home or in restaurants or in parties.Ofcourse we first clean our hand and mouth before and after eating foods. It is our culture and I cant go out of my culture for false vanity.thanx.

True enough but I'm sure there would be times in life that we have to go with whatever there is available and adapt to the situation were in. And I believe that way we enjoy our food with or without utensils. Happy posting!

Hello, There are restaurants here in the Philippines that doesn't serve utensils except when you asked for it. Grill Restaurants often do that here. You get to wash your hands though because they do have handwashing area. Thanks for replying to this discussion. Have a nice day as well.

Here in the Philippines, we have this restaurant where you can eat with your bare hands. They still have utensils though so you can choose whether to go bare hands or not. Our old office is near to a branch of this restaurant and that's where we usually celebrate birthdays and other occasions. My office mates and I like eating there with our bare hands. At home, specially when our viand is fried or grilled fish with mango-tomatoe-fish paste side dish, or crab or prawn/shrimp with vinegar-garlic dip, I can not enjoy the meal if I don't eat with my bare hands. If my nephews and nieces are eating with me, I also teach them how eat with bare hands properly. (Believe me, I saw some people who does this disgustingly.) I show them how to do it without scattering parcels of food in the table or in my palms or up to my arms. The food - rice and viand - were kept just with my fingers.

I understand what you mean when you say about keeping the food in the fingers. I find that some people when eating with bare hands ends up with more food on their body that in it. Anyway, as long as you're having fun and enjoying you're food that's fine. happy mylotting!

Here in India they are used to eat with their bare hands. They say that it is better to use hands, ahh, of course sounds more realistic and approving if you have clean hands and you have washed them first before eating. I have never been into a restaurant in my own country where you can eat with your hands. Let's say Kamayan, but i don't think so. But in here, be it a classy restaurant or ordinary restaurant, they (customers) are using bare hands for eating. They have wash basins and a faucet for you to wash your hands before eating. And generally speaking i think you are not considered an Indian, if you don't eat or experienced eating using your own bare hands. For me of course, i was brought up by my parents to use utensils. If every one with me is using utensils here, then i will use, if they use with their bare hands, then i would cooperate too hehehe!

I guess we have to adapt to whatever culture there in the place that were in. Sometimes it doesnt suit us and look for the things that were used to. It seems to me that you're adapting to the changes and I'm glad to hear that. For I think that's important in life. Adapting. Happy mylotting

I prefer to use eating utensils than my bare hands when eating. This is not to say that I don't know how to eat with my hands. Cheers!!

I feel awkward using utensils when eating seafood especially shrimp or crabs. Thinking about seafoods makes me hungry now hehehe.

I eat with bare hands when I can. Going out does not leave this as much of an option, however.

I don't mind eating finger food at home using hands like chicken drumstick, chicken wing, pizza etc. But I rather won't do it in the restaurant especially eating with other people.

i prefer to eat with hands only in house or if i am in a good restaurent also . in our country,we many people will eat with bear hands only without any utensils . i like to eat in bare hands only and it feels me to take full meal . if i use any utensils ,i will eat less food than eating with hands . when i am eating with bear hands, if any hard item is there,we can smash with hands and can eat and so i prefer to eat in bare hands only .

If i am in a really elegant restaurant i would surely use utensils. but if im just in the house or in a place where BBQ are served, i would surely use my bare hands to eat.

i can eat with my bare hands as long as it doesn't involve soup or anything like that. when i go into restaurants, i always use utensils as it is the 'norm' to do that there. at home, i prefer to use utensils, but i have and probably will continue to use my hands when possible. i mainly use my hands to eat rice and some kind of meat/veggies. but some foods like chicken nuggets is just silly to eat with utensils, so i use my hands.
