Did you learn to play a musical instrument at school?

I learnt to play the recorder when I was at school. I started with the descant, then the treble, and lastly the big one, the tenor. I enjoyed it, but I haven't played since. Did you play something, and if you did, do you still?

I learned to play the classical guitar in college. I've learned the piano when I was young but this was not from school but after school private lessons. I still play the piano... have picked it up again, and occasionally pick up the guitar.

Oh haha, it bothers me when my nails are long anyway so it works for me!

It is nice to be able to play something when you feel like it. I have a keyboard and a guitar, but rarely plat them, as it means I have to cut my nails really short!

We started out with the recorder in like 4th grade. Nothing major but it was fun, then as we progressed into 5th and 6th grade we got to pick other instruments like the cow bell, xylophone, triangle, and so on. During the last semester of my 6th grade year, the jr and highschool band director would come to our school and we got to join band if we wanted to, and be ready for our Jr high days. I learned Clarinet and played it until I was in the 9th grade. I then didn't want to do it anymore. My family was always musically inclinded so I was taught the piano, early in age, and as my sister started playing saxophone. She taught me all three of those. Alto, Tenor and Soprano. I don't think I could carry much of a tune now days though, it's been years since I've attempted those. I can still wing things on the piano though, lol.

I always wanted to play tenor sax, but we couldn't afford one. Wouldn't have enough puff for it now anyway!

Thankfully our school bought the biggest and unsual instruments, so when my sister learned them she just brought them home. I haven't priced any of them in years, but i supposed they are a fortune still. I wouldn't have much of a puff for them either. Let alone, trying to get much of a right now out, lol. I didn't do so well with reading the music, I always was one to play to the beat of my own music. lol

I was in the school band and we actually marched in the inaugural parade for President Clinton back in 1997. I played Clarinet and my band director made playing so not fun that I sold the clarinet as soon as I graduated high school and I haven't played since and that has been over 10 years ago.

First I took piano lessons in school but I couldn't get one hand to go fast while hte other one was going slow so I switched to the guitar. Plus my best friend was taking guitar. But then my fingers got sore so I quit altogether. My youngest daughter, however, took guitar in high school and really loved it. She and my husand are both guitar players so that's something they have in common and they still play together from time to time.

That really helps if other people in the family are musical.

I was learning to play the recorder but I didnt get a chance to master it .Never quite got a hang of how to move my fingers for the different notes .I think it was because the recorder is so boring ,could they have chosen something as funa sthe guitar or drums .That would have been more exciting but the recorder aaah that instrument doesnt seem to have any commercial appeal ,you dont see it in any music bands ..its just not cool...guitar forever !!!

You're right the recorder is not cool, although I think maybe the tenor recorder could be used for some interesting sounds in the background because it is much deeper than the squeaky ones that you normally hear! I think schools use recorders a lot because they are so much cheaper than guitars etc.
