No Water. No Coffee. No Sparks

Sparks Narrow Bathroom - Yes I can touch both walls at the same time if I put my arms out at my sides! LOL

Today was a very dry day and that included being out of booze. I woke up, stumbled to the kitchen and turned on the tap to make coffee. No water. No water, no coffee. No big deal, I thought, as my town is on a well and sometimes the water pressure gets so low, we are without water for a few minutes. So off I go to dress, make the bed and shovel my front walk even though it's still snowing. Back to the bathroom to take a shower, and you guessed it. No water. I call my neighbour. She has water. Well damn, I think, WHY ME?! Because it's the story of my life. I call the town councilman to check the main in front of my house. He laughs at me. Tells me to 'wait until spring thaw for water'! Like WTH? So I called my secretary at the Town Office and asked her to find someone else to check my lines. We have the technology. She calls me back and says everyone in town has water but me so it's my fault. Like again, WTH? I may be cold at times, but I'm not frigid (wink, wink) enough to freeze my own pipes! So I get mad. (Later I got even.lol) I got an emergency plumber out who luckily for me, was working on the other side of the lake, and he made it to my place before dark, but in one of the worst storms of the winter. He hooked up his cables and gadgets and determined, that yes, the 'freeze zone' was at the town main and NOT in my own pipes that go from the main to my house. In less than twenty minutes he had me back in water. So of course, I made coffee (!) and sandwiches and invited the cute plumber into the house. He told me that because of the weather it would be a good idea to let water run somewhere in the house for the next few days. He suggested the toilet, in that the 'floater' in the tank can be left up which makes the toilet constantly 'run' drawing on the water supply. So off we go to the bathroom. I have a narrow bathroom. We were standing side by side looking into the tank of the toilet and I lost my balance. Luckily (?) I fell sideways and ended up butt over tea kettle in the tub, legs straight up in the air. VERY dignified! The cute plumber, to his credit, tried not to laugh and offered to turn the water on for me so I could take my shower now. Cute and funny huh? But the best part was as he was coiling up his cables outside and getting ready to leave. The councilman who had laughed at me, came by and asked the plumber if I had water now. He was told yes and that the TOWN would be billed for it not ME! Big argument ensued, but the law is the law. Because the plumber was in my area when the call came, I brokered a deal with him for over 1/3rd less of the normal cost so the town will pay just over half of what it would normally have cost if the plumber had to come from the city just for me. So I had the last laugh and saved my town a bundle. I am now on my third pot of coffee in as many hours. Wowza the threat of losing access to one of life's vices is a scary thing! What vice in life can't YOU live without?

you look like you have a good bathroom down there. it is good that you have found a good plumber that was able to help your problem with. and finally gave you access to fresh water supply and finally you had your favorite coffee. it is really infuriating to see that we don't have any water supply. it is the most important basic necessities in life. i can't live without water. i can survive without electricity. water help us in so many ways, it keeps refresh when i bath. and normalize my body temperature. anyways, i don't know yet which vice i can't live without. mostly i just like hot chocolate. then what else. i think i can't live with out internet. so i guess electricty is the next important thing besides having water.

OK we're moving in with you just keep you safe.... you fall a lot. I love the sweet "even" you got! Vices? Me? No, I have no vices. BUT If you take away my Internet I may go insane and harm the neighbor who allows her nasty dogs run wild through hood. We are in the city. She's a hood troll. I might get a little nuts without my sweet tea.

It is great to know that finally the kind Plumber helped you regain your water supply and the much essential 'water'. It would have been very bad and disgusting if the plumber would not have been around. So you please be careful in future that no leakage takes place..........from anywhere.............LOL! All the best, enjoy your day with a hot and steaming cup of coffee, after you had enjoyed your showers.

In my old house, I always had to leave water running in the kitchen sink and in the bathroom sinks. The upstairs one was the bathroom that worried me the most about freezing up. If they did, and if a pipe were ever to break, the only way to get to them is by going into the walls. I didn't want that kind of mess in my house! My vice in life that I couldn't live without? There's no way (or at least I don't think that there is) that I could go without my coffee. I couldn't drink much when I was pregnant, only a weak cup or two in the morning, but that was it. I'm a big fan of dark, strong coffee. I doctor it up with my cream and sugar and I'm set for the day. I drink it all day long, which I know isn't good health wise, but I'm a caffeine addict.

Oh thats easy the computer. I am answering this from email so I can't read wha the other people are saying but I would bet alot of rsponders will say the computer. For me it's cause all my friends live in it.....Coffee would e the other one but OMG girl I couldn't drin that much coffee. Well now it depends if you like it strong or weak. I like it really strong so if I drank 3 pots of coffee I WPULD be bouncing off the walls. Good thing the plumber was close when he got the call. You should post a bulliten in your town so they know you saved the town so much. Maybe they won't be so mean next time. Toilet running all night, isn't that expensive? Didn't he say leave it running for 3 days (few days) thts about the same thing. Good luck on that. It's better than frozen pipes again. Burrrrr!!!!!!

We're on a town well here. Everyone in town is allowed up to 9,000 gallons of water a month at a set rate. No one ever goes over. And now that it's just me, there is no way I could go over the 9,000 gallons all by myself even with the tap running (at a low speed) for a week if it had to. So no worries on the water bill. And coffee keeps me going to the bathroom regularly, so the constant use of the toilet will keep the water coming in and hopefully the mains won't freeze again! LOL

This reminds me of a week we spent without electricity and the water for some fault in the lines and water pipe getting clogged up. I live in hilly remote area so we draw water through pipes from the fresh springs and since it has not snowed much this year, as people say because of Global warming efects, we are worried that we may end up having dry taps if rains do not come soon. All the springs are dried up now and few big ones are still there but they are also low on water. May e right now its water that I wont be able to live without.

That is just not fair. Please send the cute plumber to my house. I will try to have some plumbing problem for him to solve by the time he gets here. I would love to watch him hook up his cables and gadgets and then determine I still have a heartbeat. I promise not to fall into the tub unless he joins me there. You just have all the luck. You really need to share the good looking plumber. I will give you some of my coffee if you will just share the plumber. LOL

Forgive me but I now have this wonderful vision of you falling sideways and ended up butt over tea kettle in the tub, legs straight up in the air. I needed a laugh tonight...LOL Well the only thing I can come up with as far as "inconveniences"--was when our entire building and all the apts were being re-wired. The electricians came at the ungodly hour of 7 in the morning to begin working...that meant shutting the electricity down from seven in the morning....and didn't get switched back on until five in the early evening...no computer, no TV, no radio, no lights..nada...nice huh? The electricians didn't come into my apt to start working until about 2 in the afternoon...all that time literally twiddling my thumbs not being able to do much of shat At least my stove is gas and not electric so I was able to have my cuppa of coffee and eat

Sparks, I always set my coffee maker up the night before I go to be. That way no matter what ensues over night I am assured coffee in the morning, unless we lose power, which has not happened in the 2 years we have lived here, (knock wood.) If any one knows me the least little bit they know I have to have my coffee. My family will not even speak to me before I have at least one cup and preferably two. I am a bear until I get my coffee. When Hurricane Hugo hit and knocked our power ot for almost 2 weeks, the first thing my hubby did was dig a fire pit (good ole Boy Scout that he is), so that I could have my coffee, now it was a double blessings cause we could also cook. When the neighbors wanted coffee, or someone wanted to cook they came to out backyard, LOL. While all that time was an inconvenience it also made some good memories, and solidified neighborly relations. So now you know my vice, not the worst one someone could have, but try to convince my family of that! Hugs Marilyn 9Who is sitting here sipping her coffee)

ROFL I always set my coffee up the night before, but since the hubs is home so seldom now, I've gotten lazy and it wasn't ready to just turn on this morning........bad me! LOL Won't make that mistake again. It's made now and good to go, but I really have to get to bed before I give in and turn it on! ROFL

Is myLot a vice? Much as I love my cups of tea and egg custard tarts - I love the friends that I have made here more. Some of them a lot more. I guess that I could live without the Lot, but the E mails would be bashed more than it is. So my friends are one major vice and weakness for me. Otherwise it would have to be tea. Especially my early morning cuppa. I'm pleased that you are back on again Sparky. Trust you to find the only plumber in miles and show him your knickers! LOL. XXXX

excellent topic. Why is it that if one is out of water, it should be our fault. It is important to always leave water running when it is freezing, we keep the water dripping in the bathtub, and our pipes don't freeze. With the frigid weather it is really important to remember that. Sounds like you have a hot plumber. Love your story. It definitely is hard to go without water, another thing hard to go without is a phone. One may not use it for days, but when it is out of order, of course that is when you need it the most. Hugs MaryLynn

You said you leave the water in your tub 'dripping'. Do you mean 'just a drip drip, or is it actually just running in a consistent thin stream? The reason I ask, is because I have the tap in my bathroom running in a thin stream, but the noise is like Chinese water torture at night when I'm trying to sleep. If I could turn it down to a drip and not have to worry about the pipes freezing, that would be so good.....

You can turn it down to a steady drip. As long as the water is still moving in the pipes the won't freeze. It does not need to be a stream of water.

Poor sparks but look on the bright side as well as getting your water back and saving your town money you also keep us amused! Bet that coffee was so good when you finally got it! I used to think that smoking was the one vice I couldn't live without but so farI have managed to do without for over 7 weeks! It's good that you were able to get it sorted out as quickly as you did. And the best part was that you didn't have to pay for it either!
