Swapping Clothing

Do you and your friends and relatives trade clothing? I had a friend who calls me whenever she cleans out her closet and my stepmother usually sets some things aside for me as well. There are times when these "donations" come in handy and there are times when they just add to my own clutter. Someone I know gets together with friends annually to do a clothing swap near the holidays. Another person I know gets together with friends to swap and then have a sale right before Mardi Gras. The advantage of that swap is that they get stuff for their costumes. How often do you clean out your closet? Do you donate, sell or just throw out your old stuff?

Hi Canellita, I sometimes swap clothes with my sister or borrow some of her clothes that I need and she does the same. Mum sometimes gets me a bag of her clothes that she don't want anymore but most of the time I don't like them. Me and my friends also used to borrow clothes but never give them for good. Also I don;t like to throw out anything including clothes even though I haven't worn them for a long time.

I hate to throw out things that are still usable. There are so many things that can be recycled and clothing is definitely one of them. The culture today is one of disposable everything.

I do this with friends and family. When I was growing up, a lot of my stuff was hand-me-downs, too. Usually I'll check to see if my family wants it... and then my friends... and finally, if nobody wants it, I'll donate it to charity. If I think it's too ragged, though, I don't donate it, because even charities don't want raggedy old clothes. In that case, I either turn it into a wash-rag or give it to my pet rabbit, who loves to make pairs of old jeans into a nest.

This is a great way to recycle your old or unwanted clothing!

i never really tried swapping clothes to my relatives coz they are far away from us. but i do give clothes and donate them to childrens on the street especially christmas time. it's our way of sharing our blessings to the others which is really good.

Everyone in our family, mine and my husbands, trade clothes like this. If I cannot wear it or no longer wear it then my family gets the first pick. At the same time if someone brings clothes to my house I will go through them and pick out what I want. We do this with the understanding that what we do not want is to be passed to someone else or taken to a charity. I "spring clean" my entire house twice a year, and anything that is no longer in use leaves my house. The nice thing about this method of sharing is that I do not have to feel guilty if I do not want something because the person that gave it to me did so knowing that I may pass it on. I do throw things away also, these things are items that I would not want to buy because of the quality.

My family trades things around also. Some things I share with friends some things I donate or reinvent. I have a pile of stuff waiting to be turned into quilts and other stuff.
