I finely got out to the Farmers market. I now remember what good produce looks like. The stuff we've been getting from Mexico is not good at all in fact most of the time i've been using frozen Vegies. How are thing in your produce department?

hello savypat i love going downtown to our farmer's market here in Middle Tennessee. i hear about what fresh produce and fruit looks like. our farmer's market here even has an inside market where that you can buy lunchmeat to fresh seafood. the inside area of the farmer's market also has all different kinds of fast food restaurants that you can get something to eat at while that you are there. our farmer's market also has all different kinds of beautiful flowers for sell. you never know what that you might see when that you go to the farmer's market. i load up on green bell peppers in the summer time at the market to make stuffed peppers with. that is one of my hubby's favorite meals. i also buy the small cucumbers so that i can make bread and butter pickles with them. oh i will have to visit the farmer's market here when i can catch a beautiful weekend to go. our farmer's market evens holds different types of activities for people to come see. it is a neat place to go to, to purchase produce and fruit. take care and have a beautiful evening. take care and have a beautiful evening.

Not to worry I enjoyed hearing about your wonderful Farmers market. Ours is just a little store, but we are in a small city, well under 500,000 Thanks

We are so lucky here in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas USA. I have a grapefruit tree in the back yard, and those Grapefruits are big and juicy and picked right off the tree. We can go to Don-Wes flea, and farmers markets, and get the best fruits and vegetables from South Texas and Mexico. The Rio Grande Valley has 80,000 acres of garden crops in Texas and even more across the Rio Grande River (border) in Mexico. It seldom freezes in this area, and the vegetables are harvested in most months of the year, plus we get fresh imported tropical fruits from Mexico. Its enough to make your mouth water!

I should go to one. If only distance didn't matter. We've got good enough veggies at a store near here, but expensive. So like you, been using frozen and canned much. Would love to have fresh produce more, though.

We have fresh veges and fruits everywhere. The only problem is the price - in the city it's real high. You'll the the same thing for a more moderate price in the market... Happy mylotting...

that is interesting, in our market we only get foreign produce, which means it's days old not fresh.

Things look pretty ok where I go but I'm like you. I like the Farmer's Market. There is one in the summer just about two miles from where I live. I am also close to alot of farms that sell their produce.

Depends on which store. Wal-Mart--I think they're painted to look fresh. Aldi's--cheap, but watch out for the rotten ones mixed in. Hy-Vee--the best of all. Usually good and ripe, but not too much.

I know what you mean. The grapes in our supermarkets right now are terrible. Even some of the vegetables have seen better days. Surprisingly the strawberries and pineapple are really good right now.

When I went to my cheap nearby store, the produce were always bruised up and flies were on them. Some had mold and when you went home with your avocados they would be all black when you split them open. The Albertsons nearby is ok... but very pricey when they're not even organic. I started planting my own veggies, but they're not ready for harvest yet. Still waiting....

I like to buy fresh veggies from the farmers markets. I usually will stick to my frozen vegetables if nothing looks appealing at the grocery store. I buy my potatoes, carrots and asparagus fresh which usually look good.
