Why do they do that?

I remember having a pet Russian hamster it was gray with a black strip down it's back and he used to sit on his food bowl and just flip backwards constantly. I have no idea when he did this perhaps the food made him hallucinate and when he flipped he was tripping. Can anyone explain why he did this ?

The hamster ball idea is a good one. Just don't let him get too close to the stairs...

Hahaha..Why don't you try to get a hamster ball for him to run around? If you already have one, make sure you use it almost daily. I think most hamsters love balls. ^_^

Hamsters are weird. Maybe it was just a game he invented that he thought was fun. If you spend your whole day in a glass tank with nothing to do, I guess you have to come up with ways to keep yourself occupied...

I gave him the TV remote, maybe he was trying to flip back onto the channel button.

hmm, can't really say what it actually was, but he may have wanted attention or he was excited or something like that, which is pretty normal if so.
