Do you get burned out? How do you handle it?

I write on several sites on the internet trying to pick up a little spending money here and there. But today I just cannot bear the thoughts of having to write something. Not only do I think I am experiencing a little bit of writers block, I am just plain tired. Do you ever get that way? How long does it last? How do you handle it? I am thinking I should just take today off and do something else- sew, or read a book, or watch TV...anything but writing. What do you think?

I hear ya. I definitely think I often suffer from writer's burnout and then I'm not good for much of anything as I get brain fog....LOL The only thing I managed to do today was write in my blog for Today.com....but took off from any of my other writing and worked on other projects...like constructing a "bed" for one of my kitties..LOL--I've been meaning to do that for awhile anyway. I have to admit it's frustrating when I get burnout, as I always have a bunch of articles I plan to write, like for Associated Content (oops....I've been meaning to answer you about what you asked me in an email to me...sorry...sometimes I'm not even in the mood to look at my emails much or answer them..LOL)
Anyway I try not to beat myself up about not "being there" to write as I usually make up for it the next day.

I did end up taking time off yesterday (except for the little bit I wrote on MyLot). It did me a world of good. I made up for it today, and I wrote a lot. Thanks for commenting on my discussion - and I am still waiting on your email!
Thanks!

I'd take a break if I were you - this is what i just did, actually. I've been feeling burned out and just unhappy with my life, so I gave myself a break from everything for a couple of days, and just did little random things. it was fun!

I'm glad you enjoyed your break and had some fun. I actually enjoyed my break yesterday (even though I felt a little guilty). But, I just could not get my mind to work on writing, so I just did other things instead. Most everybody agrees that you have to take a break when you get that way, so I felt better about it. Thank you for responding to my discussion! Everybody was very helpful.

I just take a break from it and go do something else. Sometimes it takes a couple of days, but when I get back, I am ready to go.

yes i have experienced that burn out many time. and one time because i feel i was totally drained out of o my motivation to stay online that i need to go out and go to the mall and just try to enjoy my time buy things hat i wanted from my hard earned money so that i can appreciate more the money or little earnings that i have gotten . it is not easy to be online or in front of the computer just to earn some extra money. i don't know why the monitor really makes my eyes get tired easily and i suffer some vision problem now. i mean my eyes are not that clear as it used to be . and also i mean it does for a price to be online . though we enjoy money but our health is important too. so i am trying to use the computer less often as much as possible.

For me i do get time to relax and that is during weekends. Do some grocery and shopping with hubby and then again go back here in MyLot and do some blogging on other sites. I think it is best to breathe and see the world outside, notice any changes? that will be nice to include in your writing don't you think?
About boredom, well i do get bored when i don't do anything. But i do get my bottom paining for sitting many hours trying to write on something and at the same time, responding to queries here by Mylot users.
That is why, i do get my snacks beside me. And stock a loud of goodies in the ref so that even if my mind is thinking, my stomach is grinding something, and new ideas would come handy. Smile as always and look at your pet! this will get you not burdened much.

Oh definitely! Because I'm not working, I'm trying to supplement my income through online sites and blogging. I've been doing this for a month now, and I pretty much want to take a break, but in the back of my mind....a little voice says, if you're not working or making any kind of money, how are you going to get through the next month. It's my obligations and responsibilities that keep me going. I'll be able to take a bit of a break tomorrow, get outside and enjoy the sun a little. At the end of the day, I like to read or even watch a little tv.

Your thinking is absolutely right! Sometimes you need a break just to give your mind a rest. Usually I'll go exercise, which instantly relieves my mind. Sometimes I'm just so tired, I'll nap for a bit. Either way, its best to stop the writing for the day so that you can recharge and re-energize. You'll be back stronger than ever!

It sounds to me like you just need a little break. That's why I like coming to Mylot, I treat it as a "distraction", not a job. I think it is fun to respond to discussions and occasionally ask a question or two. I'm not bent on making any sort of quota. I am so easily distracted, though, so I know what you mean about the writing. The moment I get into bed at night, my mind starts racing about things I could have done that day. I almost feel compelled to get out of bed and write out some lists, but I have to clear my mind and go to sleep. It happens to me at work, too. I have a hard time concentrating because I can think of all the other things I could be doing. Best thing is to just take a break and clear your mind of everything. Start fresh tomorrow. It's okay to do something else!!!

Thanks for your advice. That is why I am on mylot today. I don't find it hard to participate in discussions because it is so versatile and fun. But I just cannot sit down and write anything else today! A break is exactly what I need. Have a great day!

Burn out is really something that is the nature of the game when you think about it. When you do the same thing day in, day out, for hour after hour, day after day, eventually you are going to get just a little bit tired of everything. Writing is no exception with that rule. In fact, writing is the perfect example of things that are going to lead to burn out.
Therefore, there are days where I am going to just take a laid back effort. Where I am going to sit back and really relax, After a few hours, I am really going to be more refreshed than I ever would be. Still there is no point in forcing myself to write something when my mind is not ready for it. There can be some ugly things that happen when I write when I really am not feeling up to it. Still burn out does happen, and there are sometimes where you need a day off.
